I think she has several upcoming daytime events after their BAFTA ...will be interesting to see if she recycles some of her day looks..would love to see some she's not worn in several years.

Well said. I have always thought that Catherine could reuse a lot of her clothes a lot more than she actually does.

Elly C 01-27-2020 08:01 AM

I think we will see more of her recycling her clothes. Itís only relatively recently she has upped the number of her engagements -certainly evening ones have been very few since the birth of her third child. I donít see her as being someone who would be ostentatious about clothes and I think she would be sensitive to criticism if this was being picked up in any significant way by the media.

Ista 01-27-2020 08:14 AM

I think she has accumulated enough of a wardrobe at this point that it would be appropriate for her to recycle even more than she does. She does recycle, but I'd like to see fewer additional blue coat dresses, for example, and more reuse of the ones she has. It's time to emulate the Duchess of Cornwall a bit more, I think.

This is more or less a reply for three of you, Muriel and Elly C too:

Yes after almost 9 years married..although less as a full time royal she should have a good many daytime looks to work with. I need to go look around and see some of her old ensembles.

I would like to see more of the print skirt/black sweater type of look and less of the coat dress uniform. She can look so chic at times. I do love some of her coat dresses but I do get tired of seeing blue, blue, blue, oh a green, blue etc.

I will also be glad with the 70's high neck long sleeve with the neck bow disappears. I'm hoping that starts fading out this year!

I agree. It's true that some of her clothes have had several outings but there's tons of stuff we've only seen once (I don't mean casual things that she might wear 'off duty').

I'd rather see those items again but with alterations - she's done that with a couple of things.

Pranter 01-27-2020 11:08 AM

Yes I'd be okay with some of them if they had alterations to the bodice and removal of the bow.

Really nice and dignified look today at the UK Holocaust Memorial event in London.

Ista 01-27-2020 02:34 PM

Speaking of recycling...

This is a lovely and very appropriate dress for the occasion. Catherine looks wonderful, dress and jewelry are perfect.

I agree. Perfect all round.

HereditaryPrincess 01-27-2020 05:30 PM

Catherine looks gorgeous - sophisticated and appropriate for the event whilst also being stylish.

tausi 01-27-2020 06:17 PM

She looks fantastic! I love her hair tied back!

Quite an elegant and fashionable look today.

Countessmeout 01-27-2020 07:46 PM

The whole look are recycled pieces.

This is one of my favourite coat dresses of hers. Overall elegant style. :flowers:

The only thing not huge fan of is the black collar.

Her hair looks lovely pulled back a bit, not usual curls. Even like the grannie pearl earrings for the event.

https://whatkatewore.com/2020/01/27/...ts/#more-62974

Photos of her outfit for the holocaust photo shoot. Plaid skirt by Guci and black top. Love that she is using more separates finally.

Love the skirt. But like a recent one, length is off.

QueenMathilde 01-27-2020 09:58 PM

They pick on her weight but I think she looks slim and pretty in all her clothes. She looks like Princess Mary to me.

I love the material, I love the jacket/bodice ...but I am not at all a fan of that short skirt on her. It throws her porportions all off.

I like her choice of shoe better this time around as well...at least from this one angle it looks like a different shoe!

I prefer the shorter skirts to that mid-length she is so fond of.

I enjoy when she wears something a bit more kicky and fun. I get it that she has decided to dress like a future queen, but she's not that age or station yet. This frankly made me smile because it is updated. I need smiles these days. It may be unfair of me to rely on royalty to amuse me, but it is PART of the reason I bother to follow. A small lift is a boon. JMO.

Ista 01-28-2020 09:17 AM

I like this suit, and I like the shorter skirt in this case. However, I think we are also seeing why shorter, flippy skirts are not necessarily a wise decision, and why perhaps Catherine wears them so seldom. She had a close call, handled it perfectly, but there is a reason why we don't see them often, and my guess is today was a perfect demonstration of that.

LaRae

No, but that is three years of clothing that she won't wear much or at all, so really it is fewer than 9 years of clothing. And even those first couple years they did limited engagements while William was still full time military in Anglesey.

There can be a happy medium. Her skirt lengths look best at the knee or mid calf IMO

Even so that is still at least about 4 to 5 years total of daytime looks that we have seen and who knows what we haven't seen that was worn on private engagements.

I don't mind it when she wears new items...I just like to see the older ones from several years ago too. Although I do get bored with coat dresses.

I like the jacket and design just wish the skirt was a little longer.

Elly C 01-28-2020 03:25 PM

I like this suit and agree it has a younger spirit to it. The shape of the skirt suits the length . I think it would have looked a little dowdy if it had been lengthened.

Mademoiselle Lilo 01-28-2020 03:45 PM

The skirt is not for me kind of ruined the outfit, the jacket however is cute

Lady Marlboro 01-28-2020 04:11 PM

I don't care for the fringe on the skirt and the jacket. I also think it is a shame that after 9 years she hasn't learned not to wear a full skirt on a windy day.

Lilyflo 01-28-2020 04:17 PM

I love this on Catherine & the length is fine for her age & figure - glad she's wearing it again but it needs a weighted hem :)

HereditaryPrincess 01-28-2020 04:25 PM

Catherine looks great. The length is fine and looks better with tights (though she wouldn't be able to wear the dress without tights in the cold weather London is having at the moment!).

I agree with knee length or just above, but mid calf no. I find her lengths below the knee always hit at an awkward point and are not flattering.

I love this suit. Dolce and Gabana but at least getting a few uses. A bit more modern then many of her day looks. Could use the pieces apart as well, to get more use. Like the buttons and fabric.

The shoes are her Rossi pumps she often wears. Jewelry are repeats too.

Lumutqueen 01-29-2020 04:58 AM

Oh my god that coat.

Emmily 01-29-2020 07:56 AM

What's wrong with her coat?

Elly C 01-29-2020 12:30 PM

I like the colour of the coat, but I always like to see a coat fastened to get a real sense of the fit and style.

Lilyflo 01-29-2020 12:40 PM

I'd wear that coat & I'm her mother's age. My daughter would wear it too. It's a classic cut, suitable for anyone & the teal colour is lovely. I'm seriously coveting that coat!

Ista 01-29-2020 03:45 PM

As far as I am concerned there can never be too much teal, so I am loving this color on Catherine. Since the coat is unfastened, that's about the sum total of my commentary on the coat, but the rest of the outfit looks fine for the engagement.

_Heather_ 01-29-2020 04:17 PM

I'm a little late to the party this week so bear with me but...the D & G suit from yesterday isn't my favorite. It's fine, I guess, but she has so many outfits that I much prefer. I think for me it's something about the fact that she's very long waisted and so this particular cut/fit seems a bit odd to me. It's the exact same feeling I have when she wears that similarly cut purple suit. It looks perfectly appropriate for the occasion and the length and style are fine for her age, etc. it just looks like doesn't fit just quite right in the waist area.

As for today's outfit...I adore that coat. The rest of the outfit was fine and looked very appropriate and comfortable for what she was doing and her boots were cute but that coat...I adore everything about it including the color.

Lemon Lyman 01-29-2020 04:37 PM

Love the whole look from today especially the boots [emoji7]

HereditaryPrincess 01-29-2020 05:16 PM

At a quick first glance I thought the top was a sweater and honestly, I'd have been really okay with that. Then I saw that it was really this blouse and nope, I'm not a fan. Still in love with the coat, though.

Lady Marlboro 01-31-2020 01:16 PM

I really like the teal coat. The color is lovely and the style is a classic. But honestly, did she really need another coat in the blue/green family? The outfit under the coat is horribly inappropriate in my opinion. I wish she would spend some of her coat money on some classic cut trousers in neutral colors (for example: black, navy, grey, camel). She could get lots of wear out of them and would present a professional image instead of looking like she ran out to get groceries.

Lilyflo 01-31-2020 02:28 PM

According to an article in The Telegraph, the coat was petrol blue (to me that's more blue than teal) & it's likened to Farrow & Ball's paint colour Hague Blue, which is on the walls of my conservatory & yes I'd love a coat in the same shade!

LaRae

Lady Marlboro 02-04-2020 07:39 AM

Again, a good classic coat style and color. Unfortunately, the coat looks like it is a little too small in places. Either that or she has more layers on underneath than the coat can accommodate.

Happy with the look, but did she really need another blue coat?

Pranter 02-04-2020 07:43 AM

Yes I had a similar thought...I love navy, but she's got navy and every other shade of blue already. Just wear those again.

LaRae

Ista 02-04-2020 07:56 AM

It's a very nice coat, and I like the little hearts on the scarf, although I'm not loving the scarf over all. It doesn't look tight to me, but I may not have seen some of the photos that show that. Navy is a good basic, so it doesn't ping my "another blue coat!" radar the way another powder or Wedgewood blue one would have.

Mirabel 02-04-2020 08:40 AM

I think she looks great.
It's a nice basic coat, and the scarf adds a note of fun.
(I often think she should wear more scarves).

Lilyflo 02-04-2020 09:05 AM

It looks a bit too 'British Airways' for me. If she'd worn one of her green coats instead of the navy, she'd have been in the Welsh colours of red, green & white - the locals would like that.

No. Besides Zara, they are all English brands not Welsh.

Rarely a fan of her double breasted coats and agree this one looks to be pulling on her. I love scarves but I donít think this one goes at all with the coat. I agree with the comment she looks like a flight attendant.

Wish she had worn one of her other blue coats as this one is not flattering.

Why specify Welsh designers? All designers except for Zara are British based companies. Laura Ashley would be on the only one possible to wear an outfit from, David Emmanuel would definitely be a no go.

Yes, this made me smile. I am not a fan of the scarf, but so pleased to see that she is wearing one at all. I like the navy coat. It seems a very practical and comfy choice, perhaps something she has worn outside the public gaze.

There certainly are other welsh designers beyond Emmanuel and Laura Ashley. But no Kate isnít wearing any.

The fact someone actually said there are only two Welsh designers to choose from is more reason would be nice to see in future.

The Duchess of Cambridge's Daytime Fashion Part 28: January 2020 -

To add to the largely positive comments about yesterdayís appearance, this was an extremely well judged outfit and hairstyle. The day was exceptionally windy and the varied engagements made several demands on how the Duchess would look. A trawl through the many photos and videos indicate just how polished and accomplished appearance this was.

O-H Anglophile 02-05-2020 06:12 AM

Some other Welsh fashion designers-
Xander Kostroma does accessories-a definite possibility
Julien Macdonald is too high fashion for everyday wear
Timothy Everest does menís clothing
Mary Quant no longer designs clothing
Lucy Jones designs for the disabled community-that could be interesting, but sheís based in NYC
Jeff Banks does menswear and home goods these days

Beautiful coat and elegant coat. The dress also looks beautiful.

I don't like that.
Reminds me of one of the Salvation Army costumes from GUYS AND DOLLS.

Lumutqueen 02-11-2020 07:53 AM

I donít like it. The skirt is too long, the colour is too dull for me and it just doesnít really suit her. Which is a shame because it looks all new.

TLLK 02-11-2020 08:12 AM

I agree. The whole outfit is not to my taste.

Ista 02-11-2020 08:12 AM

I am not liking this one at all. The skirt is too long and ungainly looking, and the jacket looks as though it doesn't fit correctly in some of the photos I've seen. The color looks a little dead, too. Lop about 12 inches off the skirt, give the jacket some alterations and a good pressing and add a bit of color somewhere and I'd be willing to reevaluate, but right now, no, this is a big miss as far as I am concerned.

Pranter 02-11-2020 08:23 AM

I just do not like this coat...the buttons or something are just off. Plus..she has how many blue coats now.

Camilla is out dressing her today.

Great color.

Fit is questionable. Lots of gaping and wrinkles coming from the car. The fabric looks stiff - and might be causing most of this? Lots of sections and buttons fighting the visuals here. The style would be OK if I were not so distracted by the fit.

Biri 02-11-2020 08:37 AM

These buttons look as if the coat have been splashed with milk.

O-H Anglophile 02-11-2020 08:40 AM

I like the suit, but not for this event. I know why she wore it, but ehh.
It does look warm.

ACO 02-11-2020 08:54 AM

I really dislike when she does these weird military themed outfits on engagements like this. Seems like she playing dress up.

Right...a little hint of it would be okay, but the style almost always goes too far.

My first reaction seeing Catherine's outfit today was that if the photo was a sepia photo, Catherine could actually pass for being in the early 1900s with that outfit. It definitely rang a very vintage and old fashioned bell for me.

Lilyflo 02-11-2020 09:58 AM

I like the skirt but the jacket is bizarre. She has so many winter coats, I'd have thought one of them would have sufficed for today. Her hair is perfect though for a blustery day.

Lady Marlboro 02-11-2020 01:24 PM

This is just hideous. The fit is off, the skirt is too long, there are too many buttons, the boots are terrible. It might have worked in the first season of Downton Abbey but not today. To me, if you are going to a rehabilitation hospital, you wear something bright and cheerful instead of something that wouldn't be out of place a a funeral.

Countessmeout 02-11-2020 01:45 PM

Sorry another bizarre military theme coat. I wish she would stop doing these. This one is plain unflattering. All the different buttons it just distracting and doesnít look well fitted.

Iíd like the skirt but the length is off.

That's actually a very good description,I'm don't like the short jacket/long skirt combination.Catherine's hair is really nice.

PrincessofEurope 02-11-2020 03:25 PM

Awful outfit on Kate - another poor choice from the McQueen designs.

The jacket too boxy, the skirt too long and the high neck looks odd.

She has SO many great outfits in her wardrobes and and MANY MANY winter coats that she should have dug into the realms of her closet

Mademoiselle Lilo 02-11-2020 04:09 PM

All those buttons are disturbing really
Not her best outfi...nice hairdo though

Elly C 02-11-2020 06:11 PM

The worst outfit sheís worn for a long time. Itís drab and elongates her figure to a ridiculous extent. The heels just add to this effect. I agree that she would have been better recycling one of her many coats.

I think they were jeans.

Skinny jeans have been very common in the UK for about a decade now.
