That's basically a follow up on QMII's last visit to Rome not that long ago.

Mbruno 05-14-2018 06:33 AM

So is it essentially a business/ trade mission ? I wish they would extend the scope of the visit.

Yes, but the program for visits like this sometimes include other events too. Something to do with culture etc

eya 09-14-2018 03:19 PM

And some details about this visit:

"Business promotion with the Crown Prince couple has 36 registered companies and will focus on solutions in health, climate change, water and energy, urbanization and sustainable food production.

The headline for the Danish business promotion is "Italy - We Think Business" and will have the following sectoral traces:
Healthcare
Urban & Cleantech
Food & Beverages

Business promotion takes place in the capital Rome where D.K.H. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess participate in a number of business activities aimed at strengthening relations between Denmark and Italy and supporting the position of Danish companies in Italy. Crown Prince couple will attend the official opening of business promotion, have lunch with President Mattarella in the presidential palace, visit business seminars and businesses and attend Grand Dinner."

Thanks, Iceflower. :flowers:

A fairly routine, so to speak, commerce visit.
DK has a considerable export of energy saving products to Italy, both for the ordinary household as well as the industry and major buildings for the public.

The visit to the children's hospital couldn't be more "traditional". That's almost mandatory for princesses and should provide some nice photos with Mary.

polyesco 10-31-2018 11:25 AM

Looks like a good agenda. These trips have become a highlight with the couple. Busy days both together and separately .

Muhler, both will go to the Hospital visit, co nice pictures of Frederik too ;)

well, something interesting in the agenda is that they will be received by pope francis :)

i guess if we may see mary in a black mantilla for the first time for the occasion, as did other princesses in the past:

diana
madeleine
haya
stephanie

That's interesting.

I'm not familiar with the protocol regarding audiences with the Pope.
Is a mantilla mandatory? Also for Protestants? Or does it not have any religious meaning?

ricarda 11-02-2018 05:22 AM

Well, neither Diana nor Madeleine & Silvia nor Haya are Catholics.
So, it seems to be a traditional thing to wear, regardless of your religion.

It's protocol. Even QEII has worn the mantilla being received by the Vatican

KMD 11-02-2018 06:03 AM

I believe that non Catholics wear black, including a mantilla as head covering. Catholics can wear white.

I am not so sure how strict the rule is. Angela Merkel (daughter of a Lutheran pastor) seemed to wear one visiting John Paul II while being only party chairman and didn't while seeing Franciscus when she was chancellor. (Pictures of both events e.g. in this article https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article136799981/Nur-auf-die-Pizza-muss-Merkel-beim-Papst-verzichten.html )

KMD 11-02-2018 06:36 AM

Princess Charlene of Monaco wore black when meeting the Pope in 2013 and white in 2016.

Stefan 11-02-2018 06:51 AM

The rule is/was that the Queen of Spain, the Queen of the Belgians and the Grand Duchess of Luxmbourg and Princesses of Savoy had the "Privilege de Blanc" so they can wear white. This seems now also have been granted to the Princess of Monaco.

The Protoolö seems to much more relaxedd under his succesors then under Pope John Paul II.

KMD 11-02-2018 07:05 AM

The Queen wore colours at her last meeting with the Pope. At previous meetings with previous Popes, ( she’s met five of them!) she wore black, a mantilla with a tiara, and a hat with a veil. Pope Francis is to be thanked for his more liberal views. Queen Letizia wore a smart white suit, no mantilla.

Muhler 11-02-2018 08:16 AM

I know it's a bit nerdy, but I do find details of protocol absolutely fascinating!
Especially the history behind why something is done, so please keep your input coming. :flowers:
