So he hitched a ride aboard Dannebrog?
Very economical. Frederikshavn naval station is her home during the winter months and she was going there anyway.
Frederikhavn is located on the east coast of Northern Jutland.
In 1814, we lost Norway to Sweden, after having backed Napoleon after the British bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807. Our arch-enemy the Swedes under a new and dynamic king, Bernadotte, took the opportunity to seize Norway.
Norway and DK had been a dual-monarchy since the end of the Kalmar Union in the 1400's - in reality Norway was a province under the Danish realm - but let's be positive and look forward.
The Norwegians were not particularly keen about joining a "union" with Sweden though. They were old arch-enemies and the Norwegians would much rather be independent under their own, and for the time extremely progressive, enlightened and modern constitution. So the Swedes had to invade Norway, and after a short but determined resistance it was over.
What's that got to do with Frederikshavn you ask?
A lot! Because all of a sudden Denmark had no major harbor in the north. Kristianstad (Oslo) was lost and so was Trondhiem, also in Norway. So a sleepy fishing village was elevated to a harbor and renamed Frederikshavn (Frederik's Harbor) in 1818 - after we had recovered sufficiently after the state bankruptcy in 1814. That also meant that northern Jutland, which had until then been a far away, low populated, poor and under-developed part of the realm got a much needed injection.
Today Frederikhavn is a naval base as well as an important sea link between Jutland/Germany to Norway and Sweden.
And that's why something that would be otherwise pretty unimportant as a town turning only 200 years is marked by the Crown Prince himself.

Frederik is going to Aarhus to plant an oak-tree on 31. October.
The tree is 12 meters high and will be planted at Frederik's plads (square) in a relatively new part of central Aarhus.
Very close to the local unemployment office BTW. With the unemployment rate being so low, perhaps they couldn't find anyone to dig the hole for the tree, so they called in Frederik?
Amazing what royals are used for.
Possibly because Royals have more experience than anyone else. I hope he doesn't aggravate his back condition tho.
Usually the local council turn the soil over before hand to make it easier I believe. They do so here in case the ground is rock hard.
Imagine Frederick swinging a pick axe for instance. Ha!
Will you go to watch?
If I can get away from the phone for a few hours I will.
Well, it's located in a part of Aarhus that was a part of the main railway station, so perhaps an engine is buried there...
IIRC it right around where a locomotive was neatly placed on top of a building by the blast, when an ammunition ship exploded in Aarhus harbor during WWII.
I've seen photos of that locomotive. It looks like someone had picked it up and carefully placed it on top of a building!
Several members of my family experienced that explosion first hand.

The Crown Prince opens a new exhibition about Troels Kløvedal: A tribute to the adventurer and freedom. Today Crown Prince Frederik opened an exhibition about the adventurer at the Natural History Museum in Aarhus.
Troels Kløvedal is in Danish context a household face. He's a true globetrotter and has made many docus about his countless travels.
It's good to see that he is honored while he i still alive. He is, alas, dying after having lived a full and rich life. - And that's the worst epitaph to have, is it?
:previous: It looks like a life well lived, Full of adventure. On to the final journey ...
gallery from today
"Great and grand opening of the new exhibition about the importance and life of one of few true adventurers who not only has explored the world but also the mind and soul of the human mind.
Oh, he met Daphne, too!
Frederik gave a personal speech to Troels Kløvedal yesterday: https://www.bt.dk/royale/kronprinsen...oels-kloevedal
Suffering from a severe lung disease as well as ALS, the 75 year old Troels Kløvedal has lost the ability to speak and he is now so weak that he can hardly type anymore. But his brain is still fully functioning.
Years ago Troels Kløvedal made a documentary about the Danish navy's history, where QMII played a prominent role. One episode took place aboard Dannebrog where he and QMII talked about the navy and also Dannebrog. And you can hardly imagine a bigger contrast! Troels Kløvedal looking very much like the 68'er he basically is and QMII...
Yes, somehow they seemed to hit it off and it was both and interesting and entertaining discussion the two of them had. - (Of course you can usually rely on something meaningful coming out of her mouth when QMII engage herself in a docu.)
But back to Frederik's speech.
"You (informal) have spellbound us through decades and generations.
I have followed you and many have been aboard the North Caper (The sailing boat in which Troels Kløvedal and his family went on many journeys.) and felt your passion for sailing and living.
I went to sea with you from north to south through Guldborgsund ( a strait) some years ago. But that was enough to sense where you stand and sail and where your freedom is."

thanks! a nice open painting of Frederik. Different from what we have seen this year.
some pics of the opening
interview with the artist
I think it's a good portrait, it captures Frederik well as a person.
Kasper Eistrup was a member of the band Cashmere, which still is one of Frederik's absolute favorite bands, so the two of them had some interesting conversations about this and that while the painting was being painted.
I have the impression from seeing videos of the two together, that they genuinely like and respect each other.
that is great to read.
it certainly looks like they got along very well
That is a very good portrait!!!
Few more articles on his portrait reveal
The portrait have received varied comments, not least because it is so open to interpretation.
Why is he sitting alone in the couch?
Is the dry martini a reference to Frederik, the action man?
Is the way he sits a description of his laid back personality?
Is it a portrait of a man, who is at ease and ready to take over?
And so on.
Yes, it is a strange portrait where the sofa is central.
It's empty with Frederick squeezed up one end with his arm open to someone joining him.
It looks like someone waiting in the wings.
It looks set in a lobby, a restaurant or a public space.
Fred, himslf, is illustrated with not much liveliness or personality. He could almost be having a quiet smoke - though he is not.
Who is he hoping to meet?
:previous: Don't show these photos to Polyesco, Iceflower, she'll go ga ga.
Summary of article in Billed Bladet #47, 2018.
Written by our art critic, Ulrik Ulriksen.
As you a new portrait of Frederik was unveiled recently. The painting commissioned by the National Historic Museum at Frederiksborg, has already been dubbed The Bond Painting here in DK.
The dry Martini, the dapper dress and cool attitude is no coincidence according to the artist, Kasper Eistrup.
Officially the painting is named Lancier.
Kasper Eistrup is also a member of the band Kashmir, which Frederik is very fond of! As such the two of them have gotten to know each other fairly loosely that way.
Kasper Eistrup who only fairly recently has taken up painting in earnest was pretty surprised that that he had been selected to paint a new portrait of Frederik.
Kasper Eistrup wanted to paint a portrait that was more than just a future king. The painting is as such also about a person in balance and a man who is perhaps peaking as an individual, husband, father and leading member of the DRF.
The similarity with James Bond is no accident. Kasper Eistrup believe Frederik has the same charm and extroversion (is that correct? Extroversion for someone who is extrovert.) as the secret agent.
In his speech at the unveiling Frederik emphasized that he had been very comfortable with both the artist and with being painted.
At the same time he was perfectly well aware that the interaction and conversation he had with artist during the process would be a part of what the artist depicted in the painting. I.e. capturing the impression on the personality of the subject.
He also told how he as a boy wasn't that keen about being portrayed, that was tedious and boring! But today he likes it and find it's fun.
You can study the painting better in the article here:
He does look fantastic!

Upon arriving in Herning today, Frederik hinted that a Royal Run #2 may be arranged this year as well, write Billed Bladet.
"I took part in Royal Run last year, but had problems with the back. Now the back is better, so perhaps I can improve the next year."
Jeg deltog i Royal Run sidste år, men havde problemer med ryggen. Nu går det bedre med ryggen, så måske kan jeg forbedre det næste år
As you know Frederik isn't exactly known for expressing himself precisely. So IMO the quote suggests to me that a royal run might be arranged this year or next year.
Personally I think it's a great idea to turn Royal Run into an annual event. Not least because a lot of people who had otherwise never taken up jogging, running or walking before did so, in order to take part.
The health authorities haven't taken their arms down yet!
:previous: that would be great! It was a gran event that involved so many. Athletes, first timers, young and old.

Frederik is going to participate in the cross country run world championships, which will take place in the forest near Marselisborg in Aarhus on 30th March.
To be specific he will take part in the 4X2 km relay.
- The special thing about the championships this year is the first time ever where everyone can sign up. It's not only for professionals and people who have qualified for something.
There is a lot of enthusiasm for running here in DK, so thousands are expected to sign up for whatever distance suits them.
I think that's a great idea. It may annoy some of the professionals that there are so many "amateurs" but why should spectators only stand and look on?

Tomorrow, Crown Prince Frederik arrives at the World Championships in Cyclecross in Bogense on Sunday 3 February.
"- The Crown Prince's presence is not only a significant gain for the actual World Cup event. It is also a hallmark of North Funen as an enterprising, innovative and naturally attractive part of the kingdom, says Per Olesen, director of Nordfyns Erhverv og Turisme in a press release.
- In North Funen we welcome every single time we can welcome a member of the royal family and in this connection the joy is extraordinary, because the crown prince as an active sportsman about anyone will know professionally to assess what extraordinary effort is required to belong the world elite in such a physically and technically demanding sport as cycling cross, says Per Olesen."

So Frederik has been doing cycle cross for a couple of years.
It's a sport that is growing here in DK. But it also a sport that is far from appreciated by everyone!
Denmark is a small country, so most of us have a forest or at least a stretch of woodland with comfortable walking-the-dog-distance. Many of these places are also used by people on bikes - some of them have specific tracks used by organized cross country bikers.
The problem is, as it is with almost everyone using the forests, that a few ruin the reputation of others.
Some cross country bikers move around in the forest as if they own the place, without regards to the fact that there are joggers, retirees, birdwatchers, riders, children, dog-owners and what not also in the forests - not to mention wildlife!
And when you have experienced being almost run over by a two-wheeled maniac, you tend to be pretty annoyed! :bang:
So some, unfortunately, have gone to criminal lengths to retaliate. Basically sabotaging the paths use by cross country cyclists in particular, in the hope they may crash. :ermm:
In short: Everybody else can't stand cross country cyclists!
That doesn't mean everybody else are free of blame. Let me mention: People who don't have their dog in a lead, or whose dog is not under control.
Or fanatic joggers running along, unstoppable, with madness in their eyes.
- So especially in the woods in and around the major cities you will find plenty of reasons to hate your fellow human beings.
Crown Prince Frederik attends at the press conference at Copenhagen City Hall for the Tour de France 2021 start in Denmark today 21 February
Crown Prince Frederik hopes the Tour will boost the Danish tourism industry:
"It touches my French roots, and I expect that the French people will begin to discover that there is something called Denmark, and say 'maybe we should go on vacation, if not before then in 2021 in connection with the Tour de France"
"It is very important that we also attract some southern Europeans to Northern Europe. Many French people, I know, say, "Well, that's cold and wet," and they are partly right in that, but we also have a lot more to offer, among other things in the gastronomy".
Nice that he mentioned his French roots and his light humour is great as always..
