Where is the garage/parking lot?
I'm looking at various Royal Palaces don't seem to have a garage or a parking lot.
Where do they keep the Royals' cars? I know this is a dumb question but I'm trying to make a palace in The Sims 2 and I need to know where the cars go! :bang: |
I assume they are kept underground. That way they are out of sight, at least the ones that belong to the staff or the family itself. I can't imagine Queen Elizabeth II or King Juan Carlos stopping by one of their many castles, opening the car window with a garage door opener in hand and pointing toward the giant gates of the castle to open up. That would be like out of a Mel Brooks movie.
And no, is not a dumb question. I remember that when I was a kid and used to look at history books with floor plans of royal homes and my first thought was 'where are the bathrooms?!?!' |
LOL thanks for answering. I can't believe anyone replied at all ;-)

Royal Air Travel
After some discussion on the Crown Princess Maxima thread, I wanted to start a thread for discussing Royal Air Travel. Which royal families have their own private jets? Who uses military travel, and who uses commercial airlines? Is there a royal who flies their own planes? Or anything else interesting about royals and flying?
|
Here is a link to Mary and Christian arriving in Australia this fall, when they had to fly seperately from Frederik. I think it was a commercial flight- maybe was it Quantas?
|
Yes, they flew into Australia on Qantas, our national carrier. However, when Mary and Christian flew from Tasmania to the mainland they flew Jetstar, which is a basic, no-frills economy airline! No business class.
I would love to have been seated next to them. Although, the last thing they probably need is a dumb-struck monarchy junkie asking all sorts of stupid questions! |
Prince Charles is said to be flying to the US later this month on commercial flights, instead of charter. So I guess that means he doesn't have his own jet? I'm not sure about The Queen, though. What does she use when she goes on foreign trips?
|
I found this with lots of information on this topic: :flowers:

Queen Beatrix: loyal to Volvo, her whole life long
The Royal Stables in The Hague has a fleet of about 30 cars for the Queen and the members of the Royal House, by far most of them Volvo, since a few years. Besides these all members of the royal family have their own private cars:
Volvo (Queen Beatrix) Volvo (Willem-Alexander) Audi (Máxima) Porsche (Friso) Volvo (Constantijn) Volvo (Laurentien) Mercedes (Margriet) Mercedes (Pieter) Etc. There are also around 90 other cars (mostly Volvo) for members of the royal household services. For more than half a century the American brand Ford was favourite at the Netherlands Court, thanks to warm relationships between Prince Bernhard and the Ford family. But since a few years the Court has switched to Volvo. The reason is not known. Maybe the Royal Stables and/or the Queen were no longer satisfied with the quality or whatever of Ford. Anyway: Volvo still is part of the Ford Motors Company, so the Dutch royals are still 'in the Ford family'. HRH Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands arrives at the Concours Hippique in Rotterdam, 1956, with her first car, a birthday present by her father Prince Bernhard. Picture HRH Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands leaves her car after a private ride. Picture HRH Princess Beatrix and her car in front of the central hexagonal tower of her fairytale private estate 'Drakensteyn' (still in her private property). Picture HM Queen Beatrix arrives at the side-wing of Huis ten Bosch Palace where the her private appartments are. She leaves her private car, a Volvo XC90 fourwheeldrive. Forgot to say - The Queen doesn't drive on public roads ... only around her estates - In Windsor she can go for miles & miles without leaving her land, likewise in Balmoral ... When Wills & Harry out driving though, they're never alone - always Range Rovers on their tale obviously security is paramount - you often see them around Park Lane area / Brompton Rd |
Thanks very much. I also think the rules re royals and Bristh cars have slackened because there aren´t that many cars made in the UK by "British" manufacturers any more.I thinkthe largest manufacturer of cars in the UK now is Honda.

royal land rovers and range rovers
Hi
I am especially interested in Royal vehicles as i own and am currently restoring a Land Rover that was used on board Britannia in the fifties and sixties. it used to be carried in a special garage and winched up onto the deck by crane. it carried the reg number TGF640 though this was used in 1963 on another and is still i believe in use on a Royal vehicle and would love to see any photos of it or any other Land Rovers (or range Rovers) in use by the Royal Family. i am also trying to track down a Range Rover used by Prince Charles from about 1990 onwards and it was green with a G...WAC registration. i have been told that the one that he and Camilla were photographed in by a freelance photographer in 1990 had a similar number so can anyone point me in the direction of a copy or link to this famous photograph as i can not find it anywhere. thanks in anticipation soggy |
These sites might be able to help you.

Queen Elizabeth II has owned more than one Daimler Double Six finished in Edinburgh Green.
Her first Series 3 model was a 1984 car and is now in the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust registered B432VYO. This car was then replaced IN 1991 by J52PWK another Daimler Double Six Series 3 in Edinburgh Green, it was used until 1995 when it was reregistered as J216DHM and is now in private hands. The replacement was the new x300 model registered N52VKV. There then fallowed two XJ8 cars, in 2001 a Daimler Y694CDU and then in 2005 a Jaguar BD05VPP. Other than HM unique Edinburgh Green colour the other noticable feature of HM personal cars are the distinctive RAC and AA badges which are carried over from vehicle to vehicle. |
Wow, what a great thread! Might I add a couple of thoughts of cars used by Queen Elizabeth II when she's here in the states? Carraiges are usually used on traditional state occasions, like Trooping of the colour in the UK and Prinsjesdag in the Netherlands.
Other royals have less traditional events and choose to use more modern transport. Such as the Danish New Years Court event, the royals travel by car to the palaces. But they do use this carraige to travel in when they hold the reception at Christianborg. [DNF] Fotoarchief Denieuwsfoto However when they greet guests from Airports on State Occasions, usual a carriage is used. |
