Traditionally, the month of Ramadan also used to foster relations among one another. Family, friends and neighbors meet to spend some time together after sunset. During the holy month the ruling families often held Ramadan receptions to give the possibility of exchange greetings and maintain the gathering and contact with each other in this particular month. Therefore these Ramadan meetings (majalis) playing a big role in strengthening social cohesion among all segments of the society. The ruling families of UAE use the gatherings to meet with citizens and expats and communicate with them as well as exchange of views and discuss social issues in the Ramadan majalis.

These receptions usually take place after the actual Iftar so that members of the ruling families also have time with their families in private before moving on to the public part. There are also some Iftar banquets, but these do not take place every evening.
