I like this dress on HM. The neckline is flattering, but I agree the skirt could be tapered a little. Love the color.

Mathilde at the opening of the Special Olympics Summer Games in Brussels today, September 13, wearing a Natan dress and jacket with dots:

** Pic 1 ** Pic 2 ** Natan Spring/Summer 2014 **

roseroyal 09-13-2014 01:00 PM

I like it somehow, even if it looks like a couch cover.

Frelinghighness 09-13-2014 05:06 PM

Cute but don't you think the dots could have been matched

HereditaryPrincess 09-13-2014 05:07 PM

This might be one of my least favourite outfits on Mathilde - the print reminds me of 70's wallpaper, and I don't like how the skirt is the same print as the dress on one half, but the other half is white. Her hairstyle is also a little unkempt IMO. The only thing I like here is her clutch.

udyusa 09-14-2014 11:11 AM

The seams are terrible; typical Natan. I also dislike the different fabrics used on the skirt. About the only thing I like is her clutch. I'm with HereditaryPrincess on this outfit.

I wonder why this was acceptable for the Queen of the Belgians...

:sad::ohmy::ermm:

Barbara21 09-16-2014 04:48 AM

This look is definitely not boring, but at the same time rather bad.
Nice colors, but something is off. But my biggest complaint concerns the hairstyle. It seems incomplete. The more I look the more I like the matching jacket.

Mathilde visited three social projects of the "Relais Social du Pays de Liège" in Liège today, September 16, recycling her black and blue dress of the Fall/Winter 2013 collection by Natan.

Mathilde probably knows nothing about sewing so when the designer gives her something she wears it. If she did she wouldn't wear half the things she gets from Natan.

I think this is a perfectly acceptable, though unexciting, dress HM used - I guess dresses like this form the bedrock of a modern Queen's working wardrobe.

roseroyal 09-16-2014 12:03 PM

I love it!

maria-olivia 09-16-2014 01:17 PM

I think Natan and others are never paid !
I know nice houses in Brussels who doesn't like to have the royals as costumers !

udyusa 09-16-2014 01:21 PM

I like this dress on Mathilde. It is a perfect example of a simple, yet smart, dress for a working Queen. I like her earrings and shoes, as well.

Princess Xenia 09-16-2014 04:43 PM

The print is not good, her shoes are not very well matched IMO. I don't like her hairstyle.
Overall it's a bad look, very bad look.

Even though it is not, this dress could well have been from LK Bennett or another London based "affordable luxury" company

Aaaaah, finally a good one now..... after the orange dot nightmare and the blue something......
She is really looking good!

Regarding haircut: on the first pic it looked perfect..... the second one: was this a bit windy?????

udyusa 09-18-2014 11:34 AM

I agree that it looked smarter the first time she wore it. I still find it a flattering dress. Her hair does seem to need something done to it.

roseroyal 09-19-2014 12:59 PM

The pants look like a giraffe or a zebra with red paint over them. Miss. Don't like the top either.

udyusa 09-19-2014 03:13 PM

Good grief. The first time was bad enough and to wear it again?! Sorry, but the horizontal print on the too short pants is not flattering. And the top doesn't go with the color of the pants. I do like her flats, however.

Frelinghighness 09-19-2014 10:32 PM

Really no good someone should burn those pants, those stripes couldn't look good on anyone. And that terrible, what is it rust color blouse. Why?

HereditaryPrincess 09-20-2014 05:31 PM

I'm not a huge fan of Mathilde's trousers, but overall she looks nice and the outfit gives off a warm and autumnal feel, which I guess is quite appropriate at the moment!

Lovely outfit and lovely colors. These soft colors are very pretty on Mathilde.

Al_bina 09-21-2014 12:09 PM

The black-and-white ensemble and casual outfit for Car-Free Day are my favourites. Queen Mathilde looks wonderful in powdery pastel colours.

udyusa 09-21-2014 01:22 PM

I so agree with you, Al_bina. Both outfits are appropriate and look wonderful on the Queen.

HereditaryPrincess 09-21-2014 04:27 PM

Mathilde's latest outfit is wonderful and she looks elegant - I love how different shades of pink are used and also how little Eleonore is wearing a similar outfit.

For me, Mathilde is another royal that can look elegant in almost everything she wears - even if I'm not a fan of the outfit personally, I will still like the whole look due to her elegance and sophistication.

Frelinghighness 09-22-2014 09:22 PM

Very pretty soft pink scarf, pint pants and is the sweater pink too? She should stick to pastels, lovely

maria-olivia 10-03-2014 03:02 PM

The Dutch colors such as Mr Bart De Wever 's Tie .

udyusa 10-03-2014 04:10 PM

I like it when she is walking or standing, but when she is seated, it looks strange. The neckline is flattering on the queen.

Frelinghighness 10-03-2014 04:39 PM

the neckline is flattering, and the unusual shade of yellow is also. The big waist band part of the skirt looks like a medical device, a back support.

She looked great! The combination of the yellow and grey worked well. The high waisted skirt suits her very well. I really liked her hair, it gives her a much younger look.

HereditaryPrincess 10-04-2014 11:11 AM

I'm not a fan of the mustard yellow colour, but somehow it manages to work and looks good on Mathilde. I'm not so sure about her hairstyle as it looks a little unkempt at the edges to me, but overall she looks lovely.

Duc_et_Pair 10-04-2014 11:53 AM

Sometimes her northern neighbour, Queen Máxima, appears without a hat too. Then it is often about her "pet projects" like the Orange Fund or inclusive finances. However, when it is about an opening, a first-stone-laying, about cutting a ribbon, baptizing a ship or... escorting His Majesty The King, she always wears a hat and gloves and "spices up" with jewels. and has one or two Hofdames (Ladies in waiting) in her slipstream, also dressed with hats, gloves et al. That makes a 'grand entrance'.

Queen Máxima has made an extra step in her appearances, since she became Queen. In Belgium however, Queen Mathilde has not made that extra step. Imagine the same outfit with a nice hat, with gloves and with a sparkling broche. It is immediately "The Queen", now she blands away next to female dignitaries.

I know that Queen Paola and Queen Fabiola were not consistent hat-wearers (they were however until roughly the eighties). It is no crime to restore some decorum. The Belgian Court used to be grander than the Dutch Court but the latest decades the Belgians really have minimalized the "theatre of state".

Mathilde looked lovely. I would only have added the named accessoires. You are the Queen, show it, Madame!

:flowers:

roseroyal 10-04-2014 12:24 PM

Yes, hat may have helped. Was anyone else reminded of bananas ? Not trying to be rude.
I like the theater of state, love it actually, but can see wanting to appear down to earth too.

maria-olivia 10-04-2014 12:52 PM

Mathilde did well because she visited Antwerp , the City whose Burgemeester is Mr Bart De Wever.
Wearing a hat and diamond earrings for visiting a cheese and vegetable Market was not necessary at all.

julliette 10-04-2014 07:57 PM

I'm undecided about whether I like the colour combination or not, but she looks very elegant.

The A-line dress is a flattering style on HM. The print is a little dizzying, but I like it. Her hair looks great. I'm not fond of the floral adorned cane, however, even if it does honor the event.

I'm not a huge fan of Mathilde's latest dress. The pattern is a little dark for me and reminds me of Letizia's latest masculine outfit. I wonder if masculine clothing is becoming a new trend amongst the royals. The pattern also reminds me of the floor tiles in the corridors of my primary school (it was in an old Victorian house).

Thanks, Iceflower. That's a bunch of geometric prints in a short period of time (3?). I think they have all flattered her.

I like it a lot. Her taste tends to be fairly classic and can get a bit repetitive when she's not doing prints.
So when she brings in the prints, while holding on to her classic styling it lifts my day. She seems very happy in her own skin. That's my definition of beauty.

Barbara21 10-23-2014 07:04 AM

I like it.
The orange top goes well with that skirt. The overall impression isn´t too colorful or busy.
