Not liking both dresses. The Valentino dress is too messy and transparent for me, but I love the hairstyle.

The Pucci dress can look nice on a young woman, but not on MM. On her, it looks very cheap and tacky, like an aging Saloon girl.

In general I have the impression that MM is overdoing the tanning and bleaching, not a good look for an almost 40 year old.

IloveCP 12-12-2011 10:08 AM

I am not a fan of her tanning and bleaching too.I miss the old days where she was all natural.

Smush 12-12-2011 10:50 AM

Sorry, but her choice of clothing is terrible.
I don't like her dresses nor her hair

Ophidia 12-12-2011 11:12 AM

She look great in both dress...

I fully agree with you. The Pucci dress is more appropriate for a younger celebrity or actress. I find tan gauche.

The Valentino looked a little peasant-like to me. However, I did favor the Pucci black, but most of the pictures show it from the waist up- wonder how the full view looked?

Patra 12-12-2011 12:03 PM

Ahh! thank you. I DO like the full view! The shoes are super sexy too!

CrownPrincess5 12-12-2011 01:10 PM

The Pucci dress was a big risk but she pulled it off well. She looked beautiful!

udyusa 12-12-2011 03:12 PM

Oh dear. The full length photo is even worse than the top photos! She just looks so.. cheap. The shoes don't help either.

Dierna23 12-12-2011 03:23 PM

I love the shoes and it's a nice dress, but it somehow doesn't suit MM very much. Don't think she's too old for such a dress, it's just a bit against her type. Overall she has looked so great in the last two years or so, I can easily forgiver her. ;)

agami.pearl 12-12-2011 04:28 PM

Dress is nice, but she already worn better outfits. MM seems to like ruffles and pastels but sometimes it's too immature for her. I like her is minimalistic style, monocolor outfits. With her Nordic beauty she doesn't need too much ornaments.

You've got to watch the bows and ruffles once you hit age 10. I also never met a bow or ruffle I didn't like, but I know to avoid them or keep it to a minimum for effect.
There is just TOO much for the black dress. I love the lace sleeves, and the shoes, the bow around the neck was just too much.

blujean 12-13-2011 12:17 AM

Like the lace sleeves but the bow is too cutesy for this type of dress.
Luv the shoes with the multi ankle straps.

I donīt like either dress, donīt suit Mette-Maritīs type, IMO. The first one is a bit shapeless and the top is too sheer, in the second one she looks as a saloon girl, yes, it was well said in one of previous posts.
However I like her bleached hair and make-up, I think she looks very attractive in it.

Thanks for this picture, who is the designer of this dress? I like the ruffled color, to an otherwise tailored look on MM!

Naggi 12-16-2011 11:26 AM

I like the red dress. The colour and shape suit the princess.

Empress Merel 12-17-2011 04:12 PM

I applaud her or having the courage to wear that Pucci (it's not the easiest to pull off imo) and she does it quite well. But it would look better on someone taller and thinner.

The Valentino is just utter crap.

Charlotte_Aster 12-17-2011 04:16 PM

Empress Merel, she is one of the tallest princesses around and as for thinner, the woman has given birth to three children. Not everyone is Victoria Beckham, for goodness sake :whistling:

Then don't wear a dress like that. I'm merely saying it would look better on someone with a smaller figure (iow: a really good waist-to-hip ratio). That's all, nothing more. Same goes for the Valentino.

Agreed that this dress could only be worn by a runway model, which, if you saw how thin they are in real life, you would gasp!

udyusa 12-17-2011 05:14 PM

Frankly, I don't even like it on the runway model much less on the CP!

** Full view **

Danish girl 01-15-2012 03:34 PM

I like it. I really really do. It seems so simple until you notice all the lovely details.

IloveCP 01-15-2012 03:38 PM

It's a nice dress but nothing special.

Baroness of Books 01-15-2012 03:41 PM

I can see there's intricate embroidery on the dress and I like the train, but I don't care for the T-shirt-like top. It's too casual a look for me.

Al_bina 01-15-2012 04:16 PM

Crown Princess Mette-Marit looked absolutely gorgeous. Given the embroidery, my guess is that the dress is by Mr. Peter Dundas for Pucci. https://home.emiliopucci.com/collecti...ng-summer-2012

Prinsessan 01-15-2012 05:16 PM

White is definitely her colour and the cut is great. Love it when she wears bold make-up, only the lips are a little too red, from what I can see.

almee 01-15-2012 07:26 PM

Mette-Marit looks fabulous! The simplicity of the dress is perfect for her! White is definitely her color.

rominet09 01-15-2012 07:52 PM

Simple but great !

Isabella E. 01-15-2012 08:02 PM

She looks lovely in this dress. I especially like the little train, takes it from simple to special.

4Pam 01-15-2012 08:26 PM

She really looks nice in white. I love the cut and style of the dress on her

Nahla10 01-15-2012 11:34 PM

I love the shape of the dress but on most of the pictures MM looks really pale. So IMO white isn't her color. And the red lips don't look good either. She's such a natural beauty and doesn't have to wear a lot of color in her face but maybe a stronger color on her dress.

blujean 01-16-2012 03:10 AM

The top part is kinda boring but the embroidery on it makes up for it. So pretty!

iceflower 01-16-2012 04:31 AM

Here are some more pics that offer a better view on the mentioned embroidery and on the
special cutout:

sm1939 01-16-2012 05:17 AM

love the out fit on her , not keen on the red lipstick , but apart from that she looks fab

Patra 01-16-2012 06:23 AM

I think the color and the gown work well on Mette-Marit, but the cut of the sleeve should have been longer for a winter gala IMO.

salma 01-16-2012 06:48 AM

She has more similar dresses Iīd like see her wearing other style.

kathl29 01-16-2012 06:48 AM

Loved the gown on MM. The colour suits her colouring and I didn't even mind the red lipstick.

marymary 01-16-2012 07:07 AM

I liked her dress and really suits her. The hair style is also nice.

rominet09 01-16-2012 07:36 AM

sofajr 01-16-2012 08:36 AM

Live the dress and evening make-up, just perfect.
But hate the way she wears a tiara, makes it look so insignificant like it is just an accessory

The dress is a lovely piece but its simply ruined for me with the short/t-shirt sleeves. I would've loved this dress to be cap sleeves or of the shoulders with a slightly lower neckline.

Great dress, very delicate! I'm just not keen on the hairstyle - too flat and I think she looks nicer when her hair is side-parted.

Baroness of Books 01-16-2012 11:51 AM

Yes, the back is definitely more interesting than the front; thank you for posting, Iceflower. I still think the dress would have looked nicer with long sleeves or straps and a scoop/sweetheart neckline to give the top a more evening look. And a more elaborate hairstyle to showcase that small tiara.

blujean 01-16-2012 08:01 PM

thanks for the extra photos Iceflower. Luv the back of the dress and the embroidery is even more elaborate than I thought. Gorgeous!

Frelinghighness 01-16-2012 09:49 PM

Yes, cap sleeves would hve looked better. Loved the close up and you can see the silver sequins, silver and white ice princess.
All she needs to do is pull her shoulders back and stand up straight! (takes one to know one)

NoorMeansLight 01-17-2012 10:11 AM

What a beautiful and elegant white gown, MM looked great!!!

Meara 01-17-2012 02:29 PM

MM looks wonderful in the white dress. Although her tiara looks less impressive comparing to the other ladies, it is a lovely jewel, quite delicate, but still beautiful!

Can it even be classified as a tiara? It looks more like a headband to me. In the photo of her standing next to Marie Chantal it looks even more paltry compared to MC's huge tiara. I think MM has been a royal long enough to earn a bigger tiara not that the one she wore isn't pretty or anything.. just saying.

But I love her daisy tiara! It's nice and delicate which suits her perfectly.

Yes it is an actual tiara. Agree on Mc and in fact all of the other princesses have very nice tiaras to wear. Mary's tiara was very big too.

I love her daisy tiara too. :flowers: I just wish the queen would lend (she doesn't have to give it to her, just let her borrow) a really nice tiara to wear at these special occasions.

princess gertrude 01-20-2012 06:25 PM

I love, love, love the dress on MM. And the tiara compliments the dress without it overshadowing it. The dress is very detailed and with another tiara, possibly a bigger one, I think the tiara might have been too much. This was a fantastic look for her. The only thing I would change is the lipstick, I think it's a touch too bright, but she looks gorgeous. Who cares about everyone elses tiaras when you have a dress like that and a hubby that is so, so handsome. Way to go MM!

Baroness of Books 01-25-2012 12:51 PM

Maybe this sounds like a weird question, but on a practical note don't these ladies worry about their trains getting dirty when wearing white and walking across the floor?

It's not a weird question at all Baroness. I've often wondered the same since trains are so popular now. Maybe they just have to dry clean it really well. Not sure.

Like the close up with the scarf, pretty color. There is something just odd about her hair color and roots, IMO. Time for a touch up.....

Not my favourite look outfit wise. The dress and jacket appear mismatched but the worst are stockings; you don't wear such thick stockings with a dress like that. The best I could say about the look is that the shoes and the jacket might have looked good together worn with (completely) different items.
On the other hand, Mette-Marit is positively glowing.

Dierna23 03-09-2012 10:51 PM

I very rarely like such stockings with any dress/skirt, but here there are extremely out of place. This outfit is one big mismatched fail sadly, but I do like the shoes and the belt separately a lot. The dress has a lovely color.

bertie5252003 03-10-2012 01:30 AM

Goog heavens what is going on here she looks absolutely terrible IMO the tights the jacket with summer dress ... horrible.

dazzling 03-10-2012 02:54 AM

I think the dress is a lovely color but ruined by the jacket and belt. I think if she wore the belt over the dress and wore the jacket open and a different jacket. The shoes would be lovely without the tights as the straps are lost against the tights.

Maybe the belt? On another outfit, though!! And looking at the picture again, she's wearing the belt too high-waisted on a jacket with pockets, creating a very bulky look.
