Mathilde looked beautiful in pink, she always does, but I'm not a fan of the thigh high boots. She and Maxima wear them a lot and they are not flattering, they kind of remind me of "ladies of the evening" look.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and in my opinion, the thigh high boots are very beautiful. If the rest of the outfit was something a "lady of the evening" would typically wear, then I would see your point. But when the rest of the outfit compliments the thigh high boots, then I believe the boots add a richness.

In this period I have problems with colours...is it just an impression of mine, or the skirt and the jacket has two different reds?
This is the only thing I don't like in this outfit.

I think dear mafan, all your problems of colours are because of the light of the pics:flowers:

Mathilde's Red Suit is really pretty, I especially love it for Christmas time. Not sure about the earrings, though, they look too casual, imo.

I agree, they are too casual, better with more classic and sophisticated ones:flowers:

What a beautiful red outfit on Mathilde, so classic! I wish I could see her shoes better. They look like they have a design on them.

Love Mathilde's red dress and red cape. Not sure about the burgundy shoes and clutch though. Black accessories would've looked better.

Sereta 12-28-2009 05:39 PM

I'm not crazy about capes as coats but she does look nice in this one.

Looking at the overall colors, it's obvious that she goes for the vibrant ones!

Opal 01-03-2010 05:55 AM

She does seem to like neon type colors.

Opal 01-03-2010 07:04 PM

She has many cute daytime oufits but I don't like lime green.

Is the trimming fur? Doesnt look like it, looks like its knitted fabric/yarn giving the effect of fur which I dont really like. I like the detailing of the scarf, is it part of the jacket?

Belgium's Crown Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde arrive to attend a walking lunch during the Diplomatic Days at the Egmont Palace in Brussels January 11, 2010. Diplomatic Days is an annual meeting for government officials to discuss and develop foreign affairs policies for the coming year.

Al_bina 01-12-2010 12:03 PM

A top detailing on a coat is nice. However, the whole look was spoilt by the fur-looking trimming. Another outfit, which reminds me of a what a very conservative headmistress would wear, looked just all right.

I'm not sure if it's because of the quality of the picture, but to me it doesn't look as if it was fur, but I think the scarf isn't a part of the jacket.
I'm not very fond of this coat. Overall it looks okay, but also kind of frumpy, JMO. :ermm:

pdas1201 01-12-2010 03:12 PM

One the one hand, I am glad that she is not wearing fur trimming but the other I really dislike the faux fur trimming, IMO totally unnecessary. The coat would have been better without it. Also, I don't think she is wearing a separate scarf or even one at all. I think the coat collar is pinned to give the effect of such.

Al_bina 01-21-2010 12:51 PM

Crown Princess Mathilde's ensemble at the reception is just all right. Although a coat dress is well-tailored to fit her figure, I am not sure about trench elements of the dress, which make the dress busy. A tonal embossed flowery pattern gives a nice touch a simple design of the dress. I wonder whether the piping on the trench-styled coat dress and collar is made of karakul (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karakul_(sheep)).

NoorMeansLight 01-21-2010 02:43 PM

I can't answer your question, Al Bina, but I agree with you. I would prefer to see this coat worn during a different event. The shoes are very elegant and modern.

Crown Princess Mathilde recycles the ivory suit by Nathan, which is a good thing. I like the style of jacket. However, an awkwardly pleated skirt severely spoils this ensemble for me.

I only like the top part and this elegant evening bag. The skirt and the pointy shoes are not my cup of tea, I fear.

Quathae 01-22-2010 06:19 PM

I don't care for the cream pointy shoes. I think they are too pointy. I do love the shoes she wore with the print "trench" style dress around New Years. Those shoes were really different, but fabulous!

This outfit would have looked better to me if the skirt were tailored more and it was a more proper fit. I can't understand why all the Princesses', not just Mathilde have access to designer clothes, yet can't have them fit properly with adequate tailoring and alterations. They can afford where I have to make do with clothes off the rack.

The beige cape is so elegant IMO. I also like the bag and the boots, but this dress isn't my cup of tea either.

Quathae 02-05-2010 02:58 PM

The only think I like about this outfit are the boots. I think she could have picked some brighter or cheerier colors to wear closer to her face. The beige I think washes her out when it is next to her face.

Al_bina 02-05-2010 03:39 PM

The suit appears to fit Crown Princess Mathilde nicely. The skirt and sleeves should be longer. However, a drab yellow-brown colour palette does absolutely nothing to flatter Crown Princess Mathilde's complexion. Given the fact that Crown Princess Mathilde has got amazing legs, boots look all right.

Opal 02-05-2010 09:39 PM

I don't care for this outfit either. The boots are nice though.

Katrianna 02-06-2010 01:06 AM

I quite like her earrings, I think they make the whole look more interesting. The outfit itself is elegant, but quite boring IMO because itīs too dark and loose. Definitely the earrings and clutch are a pretty detail.

Quathae 02-12-2010 07:24 PM

A scarf AND a wrap??? It looks like there is just a bunch of fabric wrapped around her. And if it is that cold, why not gloves? I don't like her pants either. They look too loose, of course I didn't see how they fit at the waist. I think her makeup is a little too light for her outfit. I think in the winter and/or with bolder colors, one should have a little more color in makeup. She just looks a little washed out, and especially in winter, a little more color on her cheeks or lips would just really enhance her beauty.

Quathae 02-14-2010 11:29 AM

I don't like Mathilde's coat in the second picture. It reminds me of a Native American blanket. I think those kinds of blankets are nice, but worn as coats. Her puffy jacket looked nice, like she was warm and stylish and ready to play in the snow or go skiing.

Dierna23 02-14-2010 10:05 PM

Two pictures of the outfit underneath the cape. Itís a nice looking pantsuit, already worn in 2006. Iím not a fan of the cape and scarf combo either, she could have worn something nicer; but since it was just a cover up for the few minutes outsides itís sort of okay imo.

Mathilde doesn't have to look elegant and regal all the time, IMO she only looks regal when she's wearing a tiara and a long flowing gown.
This was an off day for a daytime outfit.

Two pictures of the outfit underneath the cape. Itís a nice looking pantsuit, already worn in 2006. Iím not a fan of the cape and scarf combo either, she could have worn something nicer; but since it was just a cover up for the few minutes outsides itís sort of okay imo.

I am not keen on the coat by DVF Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear Collection on Style.com: Complete Collection (the photo #1 in the second row). It is too busy. It is sad to admit, but recently Crown Princess Mathilde's outfits are disappointing: poor tailoring aggravated by shiny fabrics or/and wild patterns.
