Billed-Bladet has a short article about the Crown Prince couple's family holiday in Sardinia:

Billed-Bladet - Frederik og Marys fede familieferie på Sardinien

They are staying on a yacht. Christian went for a ride on the jet-ski with his parents, and loved the speed over the water.

MSN.dk also has some photos of the family on the jet-ski (minus Isabella-she was too young to ride on it):

https://msndk.starlounge.com/index.cfm?objectid=56676

They seem to have a lot of fun.

Frederik and Mary are staying on a 54-meter yacht that costs 1.5 million kroner per week, according to this article:

Frederik og Mary: Yacht til 1,5 mio. kr. om ugen - MSN Starlounge

There are five luxurious cabins, and the yacht can hold up to 14 guests. There is a 9 person crew on board. The yacht also has satellite tv, wi-fi, a teppanyaki grill, and a jacuzzi. It is owned by the Vibe-Peterson family.

Terri Terri 07-01-2009 02:01 PM

The MSN story quotes the original article from Danish magzine Her og Nu. The yacht is owned by Scanomat-boss Kim Vibe-Petersen and his wife Nina. They were on the yacht with their sons Frederik and Sebastian, and they invited the CP couple, Julie Mlsgaard (CP Frederik's school friend) and Birgitte & Jeppe Handwerk (he was in the Frogman Corps with CP Frederik) with their children.
Most importantly, when the yacht is not in use by the family (as it was in this instance), it is then rented out for 1.5 million Dkk a week.

Oh thats has a lot of sense, thanks for you information, always apreciated.!

ashelen 07-01-2009 02:40 PM

wow this is like 260.000 us dollars a week! i never was interested in boats but after seeing this photos i might change my mind, would not mind a week there too! thanks for posting all this information!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

sgl 07-01-2009 05:51 PM

Thank you, Terri Terri. I'm not a Danish speaker, and I use online translation tools to try to read these articles. Unfortunately, a lot of detail is often lost in the translation. I had a feeling that since they were friends with the yacht's owners, they probably weren't paying the rental fee. There are some other families on the yacht with the CP couple, but the article didn't mention them.

Ahh well then. The CP Family are lucky then to have such good friends. :flowers:

Wow!

what an amazing boat! Do you think Crown Prince and Princess simply get used to these surroundings, or do they say "wow" the first time they see inside this place?! Maybe not Crown Prince Frederik but I can see Princess Mary's jaw dropping, maybe a little as she hasn't spent a lifetime on boats like this...In the last picture, she does look a little thin....

oh my God what an amazing yatch.... how lucky mary is..

Lena 07-02-2009 01:10 PM

You would never realise, that those so called friends want something in return and that this behaviour is killing every idea of the court being independent, would you

Sorry, but for me this constant luxury holidays on the costs of Danish biggies and spending the apanage is kind of a choice between pest and cholera

Greenmachine 07-03-2009 04:10 AM

If I were fortunate enough to have friend's with a boat like that and they invited me for a holiday - I wouldn't say no! whether I was royalty or not.

I have one question: does Mary speak a bit french??

I'm wondering because in this royal family they all speak french ( the queen too I guess??) because of prince Henrik. So maybe she has learnt a bit of french since she's in the family.

Anyone knows??

I believe that Mary speaks a tiny bit of French. She lived in Paris before her marriage to Frederik for a few months. I know that she is not fluent, but she most likely knows a handful of basic phrases.

You're probably right sgl; she certainly doesn't speak it fluently because (if I'm right) she has said that Danish is the first foreign language she's ever learnt.

Yes I believe danish was her first foreign language, because she said it was hard but she had nothing to compare it to. :flowers:

Lovely pictures, Mary and Fred look really close in them and quie close unlike what is said. Its nice to see that Mary also got some time to go shopping and stoll the streets of St.Tropez it is a wonderful place. I wonder if the children went as well or stayed on the yacht.

stellam 07-08-2009 03:00 AM

Lovely to see F&M exposing their children to all sorts of outdoor activities. Waiting patiently to see the children horse riding.

surprise surprise when you go to one of the most celebrity and paparazzi soaked areas in the world. here we go again, it's the same every year, they go to places where they and their children are seen, living the sweet luxury life, incl yacht, shopping, etc

it's their right to do so and they are lucky that the danes don't seem to mind but no reason to pity them that they are chased by photographers, who are already in the area before M&F chose to join them.

sometimes i ask myself though if there are no nice places in denmark to go to what would be more politically correct but maybe it will cause more upset to the danes to see the cp couple spending the cash in denmark and will rather accept them doing so on a celebrity hotspot what is more unreal to the ordinary citizen.

ricarda 07-08-2009 05:52 AM

Considering we have seen Mary&Frederik (&children) on summer holidays at several places in Denmark in the last five years - and this is the first time (AFAIR) we see them at a celebrity hotspot, I think you can stop asking yourself those questions. There are places to go in DK, but I don't think the Danes expect their cp couple to holiday in DK only. And I don't quite see why spending the cash in St.Tropez instead of Skagen would make it less upsetting to anyone.

Regarding paparazzi I actually agree with you. If you go to the Riviera in summer you have to accept the possibility of paparazzi-pictures (if you are of interest for the media). And somehow I get the impression Mary&Frederik decided to enjoy themselves and not give a damn about paparazzis. I don't feel sorry for them.

rubies 07-08-2009 07:01 AM

They do seem to live an extravagant lifestyle. I guess I would expect it of a cp couple. I think I'm a bit envious. Seeing as the economy here has taken a nose dive! Did Mary come into the marriage with her own money? She has very expensive tastes. Not that buying Prada would be a hard thing to get used to!

Terri Terri 07-08-2009 08:17 AM

Mary is the Crown Princess and future Queen of Denmark. She is expected to look and appear impeccable in her public role...which means looking and dressing the part. We 'royal watchers' would be the first to criticize if she didn't dress and act according to her position. Of course, you cannot compare her family background with CP Frederik's. While the Danish royals are not the wealthiest royals, they are not exactly dirt poor either. And show me a Crown Princess who does not have expensive clothes, acessories and jewels. All of them do!!!
As for them vacationing overseas, I'm sure that the ordinary Danes travel overseas for vacations as well...why not the CP Family?

ricarda 07-08-2009 08:18 AM

Actually Mary is wearing a lot of Danish designers and a lot of Hugo Boss, both not "very expensive".

nobody mentioned anything on mary's appearance. 'rubies' comment was merely on mary's lifestyle (besides, i very much doubt that to look 'impeccable' you need to wear prada). there's princesses who, without indulging in expensive wear 'manage' to look polished and professional. i also think all the vacationing is a bit excessive. personally, i would prefer someone who keeps a low profile outside (and also during) official events.

Duke of Marmalade 07-08-2009 10:40 AM

Well, obviously M&F are both characters who like to live the celebrity lifestyle and the attention that goes with their status. Now people disagree on whether that's a good role model for a royal or not but the key point is that they get away with it at home.

Actually all royals live the luxury life off taxpayers' money - it's only that some have to be more low key or clock up countless events in order to justify their position, depending on how much settled the institution is at home. What I want to say is that M&F only do things openly that others either do behind closed doors or dream about doing if only the media at home would allow them. To pick up Ricarda's words, if there is no need for the Danish CPs to give a damn, why should they?

Of course she is expected too. I wasn't judging Mary, only noticing she has expensive taste as do I and I'm sure as do most of the members of the RF.

UserDane 07-08-2009 11:12 AM

I don't find this holiday venue more upsetting than pics from Blokhus near Skagen (where they have taken the kids a couple of times in later years), nor does it upset me to watch the Spanish royals holiday aboard their boats in sunny Spanish waters or the Swedish royals holidaying around the Sct Tropez area as they often seem to do or pics from the Dutch royals in Italy.
Half this country (DK) is going abroad this summer it seems (except poor me! :nonono: of course...)

To answer your question about Mary's background:

Mary did not come from a wealthy family, nor was she independently wealthy. She didn't come from poverty either. Mary was middle-class before she met Frederik.

I'm not making any judgments, or remarks about her taste or their vacations. I'm just answering the question.

And yes, I could definitely get used to buying Prada:flowers:

And I was making my own point (as everyone else here has been doing) and made no reference to 'rubies' comment on Mary's lifestyle. It just so happened that my post came after 'rubies'.

Exactly!:flowers: And correct me if I'm wrong, but were not the same Spanish royals (or Spanish King???)criticized for accepting a yacht from wealthy Spanish businessmen - the same yacht which they use during their summer holidays every year?

Sigh..... Let's be pleasant with one another please, and avoid yet another discussion on how the CO couples spends the money that they have, whilst comparing them to other royals. This is a thread about the current events for Frederik and Mary.

Thanks

Yes moving on!!!!!!:flowers: Since the CP Family are now in the South of France, it would be nice if they travel to Chateau de Cayx (Caix) which they have not visited in 2 years! It has been stated by Prince Henrik that the castle will be inherited by CP Frederik in the future!!

sgl 07-08-2009 07:18 PM

How far is the castle from St. Tropez?

Sporten.dk has an interview with professional tennis player Caroline Wozniacki. She talks about how she played a mixed-doubles match with Crown Prince Frederik at Fredensborg last summer. She tells the interviewer that CP Frederik is really athletic, and is quite good at tennis. She also states that they have many mutual friends.

I think it's because the eldest son usually inherits the castle.

Perhaps Frederik woud let the castel go over to Joachim and his family when Henrik is not her any more...Frederik and Mary will have alot of castels for therie use when they become King and Queen of Denmark in the futur.

The only castel Joachim own is Schakenborg Castel and some farmes arounde the castel.

I think perhaps it could be considered the Danish version of Balmoral. That it should be left to Frederik, says to me that it's likely to become a dynastic inheritance for all future monarchs (Christian, his heir and so on and so forth).

What do you mean with "the only castle Joachim owns". Yes, Joachim owns a castle, Frederik doesn't.
The castles he uses and will use are state property (with the exception of Marselisborg). So, besides the "first-born" reason, this might be another reason for giving the chateau to Frederik. And Frederik might need a refugium when the monarchy in DK will be abolished.

I personally think it's great that Mary can make Danish designers and Hugo Boss (see my former post) look like expensive wear. ;)

Well I think the luxurious life is just about spending the holidays in a Yate, becaus ebeeing in Sardenha is more or less afordable, depending on the Hotel you are satying!!! Of course they are leaving and expensive life but they can afford that, they are Royals and that's a part of their life, it has always been like that:flowers:!

Someone with a well cared for figure and a beautiful face like CP Mary's can make Target brands look good. I only wish that I had her trim, taught and terrific figure. And anyway......... how do we know where she buys her clothes. As a dressmaker with many years of experience, I can make a pigs ear look like a silk purse  Its just a matter of having the know how!!!!

I actually don't think they just "get away with it", I ever so often have the feeling the glamourous lifestyle (I prefer that term) is actually expected of them. In a small country like Denmark with very few (if any) celebrities Mary and Frederik are superstars/mediastars - whether they like it or not.

And the media doesn't seem to mind their lifestyle as long as they get their share of pictures to publish. I remember the criticism 2 years ago when they were in Croatia - very few pictures . This year a lot of pictures - and no critic in the media, just "sexy Mary". (But perhaps I am too cynical.)

agnessa 07-09-2009 08:38 AM

I think that when they have such opportunities to have such great vacations and lifestyle then it would be weird not to use these. Yes of course we can say that they should keep a low profit and so on but why? They have money, they have beautiful houses, they can choose great places where to spend holidays and they dont have to deny these things.

And talking about pictures - for me seems too that when journalists get much photos then everyone are happy and so on, but when there are few photos then journalists starts to blame...

But most important is that Fr&M are happy and enjoy their life, cause that is their life and their opportunities

I think Mary looks old in her pics...especially the ones while shopping...

agnessa 07-09-2009 09:08 AM

Yeah, maybe it s so cause she don t have usual strong makeup and she seems to be little suntanned too  But she don t look ugly or something like that, just as common people

There are? Could you name them please and tell me how much (or little) they spend?
i'm not going to go into this, a mod just mentioned that the thread shouldn't become a comparison thread. ;) however, a very recent example comes to my mind without thinking too much. i'd be glad to discuss it by PM if you are interested.

i think (and i guess so will many members of this forum) that hugo boss and other danish brands mary uses definitely qualify as high-end clothing. correct me if i'm wrong.

High-end??? The Danish designers, comparable to Hugo Boss ... hmmmm. I'm not sure.
But then, aren't e.g. queen Margrethe's tailormade clothes 'high-end'? And what else do we expect royals to dress in..... mainly H&M?? Perhaps it is only Mary who should dress below general expectations for royals - to avoid comments of fancy dressing.

Madame Royale 07-09-2009 10:27 AM

You make most credible point, UserDane.

The Spanish royals are known clients of one of the finnest fabric suppliers in Spain, if not Europe. These fabrics are exquisite and could be considered nothing short of 'high end'.

crownprincessrhey 07-09-2009 12:07 PM

i love the picture where mary is leaning against frederick...i don't know what's the fuss about the invitation, though i hope it is purely fun and friendship, no exchange but let's give credit to their friends though....

Ccile 07-09-2009 02:02 PM

Mary, Fred and kids were spotted at the train station of Cannes on the 7th of july. They took the train to go somewhere in France (certainly in Cayx).

Crown princesses watchers: Vacances estivales de Frederik et Mary- A Cannes

It's great to see them acting like ordinary people: take the train and take care of the luggage! by the way they have a lot of luggage! they seem to have planned to be away from home for quite a long time!
On those pics we can see a complete normal family on vacations! so I guess all the posts before on their expensive holidays can me minimize with those pics!

The castles he uses and will use are state property (with the exception of Marselisborg). So, besides the "first-born" reason, this might be another reason for giving the chateau to Frederik. And Frederik might need a refugium when the monarchy in DK will be abolished.

Why do you think that the monarchy her in Denmark vill be abolished ?
Frederik and Mary will also own a cuttage in the woods in north juttland and as you say Marselisborg in Aarhus...Frederik and Mary will be abel to juse alot of carstels her in Denmark when they are king and queen..just like Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik does.

About the monarchy in Denmark being abolished - I think Ricarda is only teasing ;)

But she is right about the ownership of the castles. Only Marselisborg is owned by The Royal Family the rest are state property.

But you are right - in the future F&M will have the right to use all of the castles M&H are using today.

(The Royal Yacht Dannebrog is, as far as I know, also owned by The Royal Family just like the chatoux in France).

Terri Terri 07-09-2009 07:29 PM

Really?! I thought the royal yacht was owned by the state!

Fantastic photos, Cecile76! I love the last photo with little Christian and his backpack. Do you know how long they plan to stay in France?

Ccile 07-10-2009 03:19 AM

No unfortunately I really don't know how long they plan to stay in France! I hope for a coupl of days more and more pics!lol

I only know that they must be in Denmark in 15 days for the christening!

okay. so i seem to be the only one who considers hugo boss and prada high-end... as far as i know, hugo boss, prada, alberta ferreti, etc... all have their catwalks at london or paris fashion weeks. now, if that's not deemed 'above average', i'm open to suggestions on what it is...

danish designers such as marlene birger are being sold (at least in the city i live) alongside with brands that 90% of the people would consider high-end and in a store that prides itself on being quite exquisite in the brands they choose (not exquisite because of uniqueness, but because of internationally known designers).

Actually, not many people outside DK knew e.g. Marlene Birger before Mary came along and Hugo Boss is still affordable for an average person like me. For me both are definitely not "high-end".
Of course they are "above average" but so are Valentino (he is really high-end), Felipe Varela, Natan ....
So, no reason to pick out Mary as the one princess who is "indulging in expensive wear" whereas others manage to look impeccable without it.

Yes, please send me a PM. I would really like to know which princess(es) you mean. Because IMO they all dress expensive (in comparison to average people) but not "high-end" (in comparison to other rich and famous people).

Several off-topic posts have been deleted for the following reasons.

First, if you wish to discuss the Danish referendum, please do so in this thread.

Second, discussion on whether or not Mary is pregnant is only allowed when the royal palace issues a statement confirming a pregnancy.

thank you so much fro the phtos, very cute!!!! they look like anytoher couple! so relax in holidays!

Tilla 07-15-2009 04:44 PM

Is it allowed to be astonished, how often in the video CP Mary pulled at her hair and twinset?

Mrs Littrell 07-15-2009 06:29 PM

Mary looks amazing on new pictures!!!! Very fresh, just stunning;) And they holding hands:wub:!

sgl 07-15-2009 07:14 PM

I love the photo of little Isabella's hair pulled up into a bun:

I am laughing at the last photo because I have a sticker that has the same saying as the one on CP Frederik's shirt:

https://i28.tinypic.com/ehht6w.jpg

I wonder when he was in the Cayman Islands? Too bad that I missed him when I made my visit to the islands.

It looks like they are having a great time. Are they with the same people that were on the yacht in St. Tropez?

Opal 07-15-2009 07:31 PM

I wonder if they even know they are being photographed. How long is their vacation for?

Terri Terri 07-15-2009 07:57 PM

I think that they definitely know they are being photographed as can be seen from the photos at https://www.fotoglif.com/f/9kbuq4tnmymn/zj2iqe701p74 . The Danish Crown Prince Family are usually on summer vacation in the month of July. The Regent Couple usually take their summer vacation in August and CP Frederik will be regent in Denmark during that time.

Madame Royale 07-15-2009 09:44 PM

Given the range of the lenses often used by paps, I think most of the photo's taken at Cax would be from quite a distance. Though distance enough to know you're being watched.

ashelen 07-15-2009 10:59 PM

I wonder who is that man in the photo, body guard?

Pictures at the market are lovely, the family really blend in with the crowd. Isabellas hair has grown abit, it looks really cute in a ponytail.
