Welcome to the third thread for General News about Frederik, Mary and Family. The first thread can be found here.

can somebody please translate the article???? what else is new with the couple?

Benoît 1er 11-10-2008 02:48 AM

Try the Google language feature. It's not perfect but it will help you making sence of it.

antonieta 11-10-2008 08:13 AM

Mary says that the Christmas will be spent on Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus, and she looks forward because these year will be gathered all the family, the Queen, prince Henrik, the crown prince couple (of course), prince Christina, Princess Isabella, Prince
Joachim, Princess Marie and there will be too prince Joachim sons Felix and Nicolas. Mary's fahter and her stepmother won't be there because they are in Tasmania.
These is basicaly what the Hola's article sayis.

sneeuwklokje 11-10-2008 11:03 AM

Who is princess Christina??

kimlan 11-10-2008 11:09 AM

typo error -- it is prince Christian

sweettiara 11-10-2008 02:40 PM

I am glad to see that Joachim and Marie will be spending Christmas with Mary and Frederik. I hope that family photos will be released.

marmi 11-10-2008 06:39 PM

They should be sgl, they have been in the past at least - I remember one specifically.

Alex_of_Spain 11-10-2008 09:45 PM

Sorry I should have translated the article...
Here, i'll resume what it says:

This Christmas the Danish Royal family will be spending them in Marselisborg Palace. This Christmas will be special aas Mary says " Even though it's so soon to say, i cant wait for the holidays". As this will be the first Christmas that the whole Family will spend together.

This year Nikolai and Felix will spend Christmas with their father Joachim and Princess Marie. Christian and Isabella will be there too.
But Mary's parents wont be able to be there this Christmas as they will spend them in Tazmania...

Christian may be able to enjoy more of Christmas this year!! He's older and will actually know what's going on, aww that will be so cute:wub:

How is the renovation of the palace coming? Will M an F move in early in 2009?

I think as long as the children are that small, they'll stay at Fredensborg. I've been there at thursday, Kancellihuset is the most perfect home for a family with children, with a big garden etc., and both Christian and Isabella are in kindergarden at Fredensborg, have their little friends. I'm sure that M&F won't move to Kopenhagen in next years. Their palais at Amalienborg is thougt more for representation and for to stay overnight, maybe that would change when Christian is to start school, I think that could be in 2012

There's an article here from BB about how Frederik, CP Victoria and CP Haakon have a fantastic relationship (from Victoria in an interview) and that they often dicuss their fate as future Heads of State together, either at official occasions or through texts and emails.

Billed-Bladet - Victoria sms with Frederik

What (possible) self-pitying, self-asborbed, self-centred conversations they might be...makes me cringe just to think about it...

"I wish I was never born into this "life" of luxury and having everything done for me, I wish I was normal"....Ahhh, no you don't!!!

"When I am King/Queen, I am going to stop/abolish (insert high-faluting goal here, eg. world peace)"...You are just a figurehead with no real powers, most decisions these days are made by your country's politicians!

"It is such a burden sometimes to be so revered and adored and have people calling out your name, I just wish for anonyminity"...Boo hoo, excuse me while I puke...if that is the worst of your problems, I'd say you are doing OK

If that is too harsh, I apologise...but sometimes it is a mockery of us, common people when those in positions of power and privilege gripe about the hand they have been dealt and how difficult their lives are...Please!!!

Tilla 12-17-2008 07:35 PM

I am aware that up till now I have not contributed to the forum with a real instructive posting and what I will say now, is even negative: in a german-speaking forum about Royals, CP Mary is heavily critizised. Hoping you do not mind and kind regards.

UserDane 12-17-2008 07:39 PM

Xeara, how do you know that they discuss the 'downpoints' of their lives and not for example their shared interest in polar activities and their common trip this year? The impression I get from reading the article - and from reading the article in www.aftenposten.no - is definitely rather opposite your - imo - rather uncalled for harsh words :nonono:

sgl 12-17-2008 08:05 PM

While we have no idea of what they are talking about, I find it hard to believe that they sit around and complain. I'm sure that they probably discuss their frustrations at not being able to lead completely private lives, but they probably also share ideas, success stories, and their fears/hopes for the future. I doubt that their conversations are 100% positive or 100% negative. I think that it is nice that they have such a close relationship. It is probably comforting to be able to speak with someone who knows what you may be going through or feeling.

Hm, quite long texts for some SMS ;)
In their defence..."we", users here, are (in the majority) actually also not poor, but are also privileged...and though we complain way too often about having too little.
With saying "It is a mockery of us common people", you are e.g. doing this...as e.g. most Danes are not poor.

However...I am very much doubting, that they would exchange messages like
"Oh Haakon, I am so glad, we can save mother earth. Climate changes are so much of a danger, but we will put this fight up"

Always when we got a glimpse of the "real Scandi heirs", it wasn´t a picture of highly intellectual conversations, seriousness and tristesse. At least not from Victoria´s and Frederik´s side.
With Haakon...things might be different (he was the one, who went to bed early during the Svalbard tour ;) )

Mandy 12-17-2008 09:10 PM

It's totally understandable to question what one doesn't comprehend, but to ridicule something that one has no knowledge about makes no sense to me. A few years ago, I recall reading an article about how the crown princes and princess(es) of Europe met regularly to exchange ideas on important issues such as security. However, I don't know if this is still being done.

How did you draw such negative conclusions from a mere note that the three scandinavian heirs have a close relationship?

IMO that is your interpretation and it tells more about you then it does about the Scandinavian hires.

As I read the article, they are doing what every sensible person would do - they are sharing their knowlege and experiences in order to get even more skilled to do their jobs.

But it is in your right to take the negative standpoint as:

As far as I understand the article, it isn't about - "how difficult their lives are". It is about getting better at doing their jobs to the benefit of the "common people" of either Sweden and Norway and Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

(Not the "common people" from any other part of the world - like Australia where you are from).

I agree with Lena when she writes:

Actually IMO they are networking just like I am with what that contains of non intellectual conversations, seriousness and tristesse......the only difference is that there are so few of them and so many of me.

I have got lots of people within my profession with whom I can network. People who can help me to preforme better tomorrow then what I did yesterday. I use this network of mine to learn - and I definitly am expecting my future head of state to do the same with the very few people who is in his line of profession.

I am very pleased to read that CP Frederik, CP Victoria and CP Håkon are using the knowledge each of them have to the benefit of their respective countryes.

So as I wrote, Xeara. I do respect thay you have got your oppinion - but I just don't concur :flowers:.

alex001 12-18-2008 06:33 PM

I agree with you, Lilla. I think that this friendship between the royals is a positive thing, not negative; through text and email they have the opportunity to share ideas and thoughts in an informal way, which can only be beneficial to the three of them.

And yes, Xeara, I'm sure they do moan - but so does everyone and we're not all self-centred, self-absorbed and self-pitying. I got the impression that they are using others' experiences and ideas to perform better in their roles.

Well, of course they would discuss, how to perform better tomorrow than yesterday.
What I know CP Frederik had e.g. given Victoria tips, when she was quite uncertain about her role in her early twens.

But I don´t think really, that they discuss, how to save electricity, how to save gas...or Haakon telling them, how to fight Aids...in Emails.

In other words I am sure they discuss the "show", but not the essence...

No I don't so think either. This discussion IMO are for the politicians, interest groups and grassroots organisation to take.

This depends on the press getting their hands on it (either by persons, who got it...or maybe they self get it to the editorial office)
The photo of last year´s card is on the official homepage of the Crown Princely couple, but it´s not marked as Christmas card. So if Billed Bladet wouldn´t have gotten the card last year, we wouldn´t know it´s the picture on the Christmas card.
To make a long story short: The Danish Royal family doesn´t put the cards (with signature and all) on their homepage(s) like the Spanish RF...

Lena 12-22-2008 06:05 AM

As it seems this is the card
https://www.billedbladet.dk/~/media/B...?as=true&w=445
I am honestly disappointed...and had hoped for a "new" picture. This one must be at least 7 months old. And the quality of the shoot is far from superb. The camera had "caught" Christian best and he looks quite sweet.

yes i thought the same ... isabella looks way younger than we've seen her recently. i would date it around her last birthday or so ... christian looks very cute in that ankle and funny enough, fred is looking at his son and mary is looking at the camera

JessRulz 12-22-2008 07:04 AM

I think that's from the pictures taken for Frederik's 40th birthday. Which makes it seven months old.

Ccile 12-22-2008 07:07 AM

It's a bit sad that they took this pic!! it's quite old but anyway it's a great pic

But maybe they are going to do a photoshoot on the christmas day like they did a couple of years ago??

biboquinhas 12-22-2008 10:28 AM

Do you really think this is their Christmas card? I don't think this seams to be an old picture and not a Christmas card at all!! Or they want a normal picture :nonono:... or they want a Christmas card and to call it a Christmas card it must be something different, new and seasonable!!!

Paty 12-22-2008 12:08 PM

Yes it´s the Christmas Card, as you could see in the Photo is writen "Jul 2008" = "Christmas 2008"

Currier 12-23-2008 05:06 PM

The card is a disappointment when I was hoping for a good recent picture of Isabella; however, perhaps M&F feel the children are already so exposed to cameras they wish to spare them a formal sitting.

then they should scrap all the uncontrolled off-duty outside shoots (for example the constant exposure in australia). millions of children are photographed by their parents (or royal circles by a private photographer) inside their own walls, nothing to worry about. i wish they would find a better balance regarding the media in 2009.

Thank you for the link. Interesting source Facebook.
Using google translation, Fred shows up at a model party with friends after midnight on a Friday night until after 3AM without Mary but *quote "behaved exemplary" (i'm afraid my hubby would be in the doghouse for Xmas, )

Translation needs a translation to me (if someone would be so kind) but i kinda get the gist. *(my thoughts, questions or confusion)

Crown Prince Frederik was the loose(?) Friday evening for the annual celebration of Scoop Models, held at Langelinie Pavillionen
Forty, but neither bold or finished:rofl:. Crown Prince Frederik was
to(!) loose with the beautiful, young, Copenhagen models - without Mary.
........Scoop Models annual Christmas party, and around midnight Frederik arrived with his comrades to everyone's surprise.
-One of the young male models walked over to Crown and asked if they had to put arm (what does THAT MEAN? dance???). But Frederick did not,
- He tried repeatedly, but unsuccessfully. (i'll bet his friends were waiting with cell phone cameras)
Instead hyggede (please what does this mean, especially in context with young models???) Frederik with, among other things, the exclusive nightclub NASAs owner, Kim Thurman and several of the young, blonde female models.
Crown had frequent guest on the dance floor and got some draft inboard (HUH???? that makes no sense to me).
- Since I left the party at. 03, Frederik was still says another participant, however, stresses that Frederik behaved exemplary:ermm:

Hygge means "cozy" loosely "close" or "comfy" with another, others, or with your and/or in your surroundings. Something like that

Kronprinsesse Mary let himself tempt of the January sale, and went on shopping in the inner Copenhagen.
Financial crisis, or if only bangs good sale offers - crown princess Mary bought the January sale together on Friday along with their stylist Anja Alajdi in the inner Copenhagen.
Scarcely enough the new year has started, before the sale is started according to traditional practice. And the offers apparently are so good this year that crown princess Mary let oneself tempt to, to go hunting for sale offers at the fashion stores in Copenhagen's inner town, writes BT.
According to the newspaper crown princess Mary looked interested on desginertøj from among others Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Jacobs.
Mary and Anja visited for instance also the fashion store Rue Verte, who is owned by Margit Brandt's daughter, Julia, where Mary managed to try on more scarves and dresses.
Now we can thus only look forward to when we get permission to see Mary, in part of her recently acquired designer clothes.

I completely agree. Everything she selected or looked at was most likely dissected in the media. On the other hand, it is nice to hear that even crown princesses are interested in a good sale.;)

2009 New Year Court Banquet

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have a question. I noticed that during the arrivals at the 2009 New Year Court banquet, Frederick exited the car closest to the building while Mary had to walk around the car to join her husband on the red carpet. The Queen and Marie both exited closest to the building. Does this mean anything?

Normally the higher ranking person is seated on the right side of the car,

the Queen is higher ranking than Prince Hendrik
Prince Frederik higher ranking than his spouse

So my conclusion is that Prince Joachim did the "wrong" thing, but I find it nice and charming to do such a thing for you beloved wife.

lancchick 01-06-2009 05:12 PM

Perhaps Joachim did this because Marie is pregnant?

Here's a link to an article about Frederik and Mary hanging out with Maria Montell, a singer.

Billed-Bladet - Mary og Frederik til fest hos Montell

Apparently, it was a birthday party. My translator isn't the greatest though. Maybe one of our Danish-speakers could provide more info.

It says that after the official opening Saturday night of the new concert hall by Jean Nouvel, Frederik and Mary continued to Maria Montell's 40th birthday party.
Maria Montell is a singer, now married to a Danish film director and they have two small children. She was Frederik's girl friend for a period and apparently they stayed in touch. Maria has said that she likes Mary a lot and finds her the perfect partner for Frederik.

I don't like to see in dark colours, black, brown, these kind of colours just don't suit her skin and hair colour!!! I love to see in her in white, red, blue, ligth green, rose. I love that white coat she has!

You are slightly correct. It was at the [very] beginning of her pregnancy with Christian when Mary and Frederik went on an official visit to Australia, March 2005.

eireann 01-30-2009 09:04 AM

In one early interview Mary mentioned that her and Fred tended to speak to each other in English as that was the language they used when she met. However, in Australia I think she mentioned that Christian´s English wasn´t too good - this gave me the impression that Danish is now their family language. Does anyone know if this is true or if they´re delibrately bringing their children up bilingual?

it would almost be a crime if he wasn't brought up bilingual. to speak a foreign language is always an advantage, even better when the parents are native speakers in different languages. i am sure both kids will grow up both fluent in danish, english and probably french. what mary maybe meant is that it takes time for children to speak a foreign language, christian is still very young and it happens often with kids being brought up billingually that they take longer to speak fluently as they have to learn to "coordinate".

eireann 01-30-2009 11:35 AM

:previous: yeah I would be surprised too and for sure for the kids to communicate with their Australian relatives they must be speaking English....but I wonder when it´s just Mary, Fred and the kids if they are speaking English or Danish together. I imagine in Christian´s daily life he´s speaking Danish, so his Danish is probably well-advanced but is this balanced by speaking English at home? Or is Mary so imersed in Danish life now that Danish is becoming her "first" language?

Raniaf4 01-30-2009 12:50 PM

Don't forget that Christian is still a baby! You can communicate with a small kid when it is around 2 years old.How old is Christian now?3,5?Could it be possible to be fluent in another language before school? He has to be at least 5 to start communicating in English, even he is growing in a "billingual" family..

not sure but the most logical thing would be mary (and her parents)speaking english with the kids as it's her native language. frederik ( and his parents) speaking danish or french what are his native languages. it will be quite a mix & match i guess but it can only be beneficial for the kids. growing up bilingually beats every language education /school later in life.

sgl 01-30-2009 06:47 PM

I think that it also depends on what language the nannies speak with the children. If Christian is mostly with Danish-speaking nannies during the day, then it makes a big difference. It could be that Danish is what Christian hears during the day, and English at night. I'm sure that he will be fluent in both languages by the time he starts school.

nulle30 02-01-2009 10:21 AM

Mary had said in an interwiuv that she only speaks danish to the children at the day but she sings and reads in english to them, Christian can speak danish and english perfect, so I think the nannies do the same as Mary and Frederik.

Hi Lumutqueen!

I could be wrong, but I believe that the last time Frederik and Mary visited London was in November 2008 for the birthday celebrations for the Prince of Wales. I don't believe that they have been there since (but I could be wrong).

Lumutqueen 02-01-2009 11:18 AM

Yeah thats right.
I was wondering about when they went on an official visit??

Thankyou.

JessRulz 02-01-2009 11:52 PM

Frederik and Mary visited London for two days back in September 2004.

ricarda 02-02-2009 09:59 AM

Mary was on an official visit to London 23-24 June 2008 (business and culture promotion tour) - but without Frederik.

Paty 02-12-2009 06:30 AM

Yes Stellad, that is what I understand from the translation into Spanish. Also they said that she is specially beautiful during the pregnancies, and publish a recent photo of Princess Mary and 32 photos from the last pregnancies.

sgl 02-12-2009 11:17 AM

Here we go with the pregnancy rumours again.

She was very beautiful during her pregnancies, and has produced two very beautiful children.

iceflower 02-12-2009 12:53 PM

Some posts about the pregnancy rumours have been
deleted, please let us not speculate as long as there's
no official announcement of a pregnancy.

Thanks for your understanding,

Not sure where this request for information should go, so I will post it here...Mods, please feel free to move/delete/answer at your will...

I was reading some articles a while ago about Helle Reedtz-Thott and herthird pregnancy, which was a baby girl but I can't seem to find anywhere that mentions the child's name...which got me thinking about the names of the children of Frederik and Mary's other friends...all of them...does anyone know? I will write what I know and please feel free to add to it...

Helle & Otto Reedtz-Thott - Ludwig, Holger & ? girl
Caroline & Peter Heering - Emilie & Rosemarie
Tanja Doky & her husband (?) - Frida & Milo
Rory and Caroline Fleming - Josephine
Rose Gad - ???
Jeppe & Brigitte Handwerk - India & Palma

It is a list I like to call "Christian & Isabella's playgroup" :)

Princess Robijn 02-16-2009 07:08 AM

The 3rd child of Baron Otto and Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott is a girl, born December 18, 2008.

Billed-Bladet has an article stating that Mary would like to have more children someday:

Billed-Bladet - Mary klar til flere børn

The article has some lovely photos of Mary during her pregnancies with Christian and Isabella.

If you'd read my post you would have seen that I am aware that their 3rd child is a girl...I am more interested in what her name is and the names of all Mary and Fred's friend's children...the ones I have left out...please fill in the gaps!!!
