Christening of Princess Eleonore of Belgium

Does anyone know Eléonore's christening date? And, what do you think, it will be a private cerimony or a public one as, for example, Princess Isabella's christening?

Not yet. Probably it will be similar christening like her older siblings.

stephanievl 05-11-2008 03:48 PM

It will be a private ceremony with only family and close friends that always have been like that with treir other 3 childern.

stephanievl 05-11-2008 03:56 PM

Elisabeth was born 25 oktober 2001 and was baptized 9 december 2001: 1,5 month later
Gabriël was born on 20 august 2003 and was baptized 23 october 2003: 2 months later
Emmanuel was born on 4 october 2005 and baptized 10 december 2005: 2 months later

Marchesina 05-14-2008 08:26 AM

:ermm:So we have to espect the christening in June. I hope it will be very soon, I look forward it, I can't wait to see little Princess Eléonore again. She's soooooo beautiful!

Prince Emmanuel´s Baptism

Maybe they will select June 11th, which is Queen Fabiola's 80th birthday. I think that would be a lovely gesture since the new little Princess has the Queen's name.

Why exactly June 27th?

At the announcement of the birth of Princess Eléonore the palace also announced that Princess Claire of Belgium and Princess Victoria of Sweden will be the godmothers, so not Queen Fabiola unfortunately.

I do agree that it would be a nice gesture, but I also read the announcement on the official website of the Belgium Monarchy that the King and Queen are not in Belgium that day.

So I don’t think that the child will be christened that day. Although it will be a modest ceremony, with family and friends I suppose, I don’t think that they will hold it without the grandparents. And also the health of the father of Princess Mathilde can be a factor of delay, I think.

[Knowing that Queen Fabiola has her 80th birthday on June 11th, and the King and Queen not being in the Country, I guessed that they would have some celebration at a day in a weekend nearby, but I have not seen any announcement of some special celebrations of Queen Fabiola yet, though, B.T.W.]
Maybe they release some pictures of Queen Fabiola with the little Princess Princess Eléonore on June 11th.

Can't wait till the christening indeed.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws the christening will be on June 14th, at the chappel of the castle Ciergnon.

Article in Dutch here.

Marchesina 06-07-2008 09:51 AM

I knew it will be on June 14th too, at the castle of Ciergnon, but for this second information, I think we were all agree. Anyway, even if it will be on 11th,the important is that finally we have a date, and it will coming very soon. We have only to wait.

stephanievl 06-10-2008 02:41 PM

According to all the belgian media it will be on the 14th of june in the church of Ciergnon, also the place where athe christening off all the other childern were. It was always in an intimate atmosphere with only family and close friends. They always invite a select amount of press to make pictures and images

What lovely pictures! The kids all look wonderful! I love Mathilde's outfit! How nice to see Victoria holding little Eleonore, it suits her ;)

Hanna Regina 06-14-2008 12:03 PM

I love the whole look of CP Victoria, her outfit, her smile and with a beautiful baby in her arms! All the Belgian children are so cute. I bet there will be a lot of news about the three cute cousins Elisabeth, Louise and Maria Laetitia in a few years time.
Wasn't uncle Laurent and the boys there? I think I've seen the rest of the Royal Family, including Queen Fabiola and Lorenz, who had some function today.

Marchesina 06-14-2008 01:53 PM

Beatiful pictures!!! I like very much Mathilde, Claire (rarely i like her style) and Victoria's outfits. But in this "competition" Victoria wins surely.
Such a sweet moment when CP Victoria were holding Eleonore on her arms:wub:.
But I found odd for this christening we have more pics than the other of Eleonore's siblings, because she isn't the future queen, like he sister Elisabeth(how she were sweet!!!).

I'm looking forward the video!!!

Prince Laurent was ther too, in this photo he's on the left holding one of the twins (I can't recognized him).

How cute those children are...

The voiceover just explains that the christening is taking place in the chapel of the castle of Ciergnon, that the whole family is there, and that the two sons of prince Philippe didn't really want the ceremony to start. Apparently they ran away and hid for a while.
It also says the girl has two godmothers because Princess Victoria is protestant, and they need a catholic as well, Princess Claire.
Does make her seem like second choice doesn't it?

Sorry to Mathilde but Victoria steal the show as we talk about fashion. Second place take Claire and Mathilde.

Hanna Regina 06-14-2008 05:37 PM

Thanks everyone for the new pictures! I had some trouble at first finding pictures without water marks covering the face of Eléonore. She is a cutie! I love the pictures of Prince Philippe holding her, both today and at Queen Fabiola's party. It looks like the most natural thing in the world for him, to carry a little baby in his arms. I know you shouldn't judge from some pictures alone, but he does seem to be a really good and loving father to all is children.

The children are beautiful.

Moonmaiden23 06-16-2008 12:17 PM

Has anyone noticed how all the women coordinated the outfit with a sort of beige/ivory theme?? Gorgeous! I really love the baby's baptismal robes. And Victoria...my goodness! I never really thought of her as beautiful but she has become a stunner, she has a perfect figure. She and Mathilde had the best outfits. Mathilde looks really slim now.

Ciergnon is a very picturesque castle...picture perfect!

Marengo 06-16-2008 12:24 PM

The VRT has a clip of the christening online, look here. And here another clip from newspaper 'Het Laatste Nieuws' (who put the small princess on the cover of their newspaper this morning).

I like it that they have a small intimate ceremony in the chappel of Ciergnon by the way, considering thar religion is something private. It looks lovely with all the children around the baptism font. Eleonore is a very pretty baby IMO.

I was wondering about the guests though, apart from Prince Marie-Astrid of Lux. and her husband Archduke Carl-Christian, were there any other Luxembourg relatives (princess Margaretha maybe)? And was Countess Anne Komorovska there? I don't think I saw her.

A minor complaint to spoil the fun: why does Mathilde always have to whisper? She usually speaks like that though I suppose she must have a normal voice too (maybe when the camera is not there).

Moonmaiden23 06-16-2008 12:40 PM

I read somewhere that Mathilde's sister Elisabeth Pallaviccini gave birth over the weekend, so maybe the Countess was attending her other daughter?

Since I became a member of the Royal Forums it was and is one of my favorite sites. Today however I am angry and disappointed - not with the Forum - but with some of the comments made and in particular comments made with the christening of baby Eleanor. We were on holiday when the christening took place and I couldn,t wait to see photos of the happy event after we returned home. It was a private family event so why the comments/critics on what was wearing what and who looked the best! If CP Mathilde does whisper something in her husband's ear what is wrong with that? At least they appear to be a normal happy couple and surely they are allowed to have a private moment between them even in the public eye. That is what makes them so endearing to folks like us. The amount of pictures taken with this christening and that of the other sibblings of baby Eleanor is of no importance. There is no deeper lying meaning to it. I think what I am really trying to say is that gossiping comes to mind when I'm reading some of the comments and that counts for all Threads in the Royal Forums. The sharing of thoughts and ideas and comments can be such a wonderful experience for all of us without the everyday gossiping! Am I being to harsh? Would like some feedback if possible.

Hello!

I am sorry but I am a little confused...what negative comments are you referring to and where did you hear/red them? I have seen nothing but positive and happy reporting from the baby's baptism. Is there something that you saw somewhere else?

Sister Morphine 07-01-2008 02:21 AM

I'm missing something here. What's wrong with talking about what people are wearing? AFAIK, the moderators and admin here have not banned that kind of discussion. As long as people are being respectful, which we all need to be whether we're saying something positive or negative, I don't see what the problem is.

Marengo 07-01-2008 03:16 AM

We tend to look for a middle-of-the-road approach in discussing fashion in threads that aren't in the Royal Fashion Forum, so ... I don't think the discussion about clothes has been excessive here, but people are free to disagree of course.

About the whispering: I have read it in several newspapers and magazines from Flanders recently that Mathilde seems to be whispering instead of speaking, all the time. We could see that in the television documentary on her husband too, but also at other occassions. The HUMO interview on Queen Fabiola's 80th birthday remarked about it too called it 'Laeken-style', and seemed rather bothered about it. So Mathilde is not only whispering in her husbands ear but it has become her normal way of speaking in public almost.

Furthermore, though it was a small ceremony which gets branded as private, there were reporters, camera's, photocamera's etc. so not completely private. We even got lovely filmed footage from inside the chapel!

-
If anybody is (still) bothered by the amount of remarks on clothing or on other things in this thread please contact any of the Belgian moderators (LadyK, Empress or myself). We would prefer it if the discussion about the matter in this thread would not be continued.
