Does anyone have a picture of Queen Sonja from her and the King's latest state visit to Greece, where Sonja wore her modern tiara, but had changed the red stones with a green tourmalin? I realy need a picture of that, but I don't know where I can find one.

A tiara of scrolls, honeysuckle motifs and large square-cut emeralds given to Crown Princess Märtha by her parents when she gave birth to Prince Harald. By the time she received the tiara which had passed through several hands, two teardrop-shaped emeralds had been removed and made into earrings. The set consists of a tiara, earrings and necklace.

It is part of her wedding attire, it is made of the same pearls that are in the detailing around her neck and around the sleeves. The original head piece is in a permanenet exhibition in Oslo along with her dress.
She did. The engagment ring was first given from Crown Prince Olav to Crown Princess Märtha, but she was already dead when Crown Prince Harald and Sonja Haraldsen got engaged. Then Haakon gave the same ring to Mette-Marit in 2000.

Queen Sonja seems to have a nice collection of jewels and it seems she had access to a lot of it as crown princess. It seems strange that Mette Marit's collection is so meagre and that she does not get to wear better pieces especially to major events.

This tiara...I don't know, but it just does not seem to grow on me. It's too galactical like...anyone else think so?

Maybe that´s beacuse queen Maud had passed away and therefore there wasn´t any queen that could wear the "big" jewels, so Sonja could get access to them right away.

That's true, rop81. In addition, Sonja was the first lady of the land at that point, just like Princess Astrid before her, who also as first lady had full use of the Norwegian jewelry.

Her emerald tiara is fabulous. Also, I like how she wears jewels in interesting ways. I like the choker pearls with the centerpiece on the back instead of (or in addition to?) the front. Now I can see where Martha Louise learned to be so creative and artsy. But Mama does it much better than Martha! Poor Martha, I love her for her individual sense, but uh......well let's just say I would never try it at home!:lol:

Does the Swedish Royal Family has any claim for the Norwegian Jewels, that originate in the House of Bernadotte?

I think the emerald parure came from the Bernadotte's. Princess Ingeborg wore them and they originally came into the famly with Josephine de Beauharnais I believe. Ingeborg left this set to her daughter Martha. I think the large diamond tiara of the Queen comes from Sweden to.

The large diamond Tiara was comes from Sweden but first it made its Way to Denmark. It was inherited by Queen Lovisa of Denmark from her grandmother, Queen Joséphine and Queen lovisa left it to her unmarried son Gustav, who left it to his also unmarried sister Thyra and she left it to Crown Princess Märtha.

There are some more pieces she could wear... but it seems she has her favourites Tiaras and wears only this ones (the Emerals & the Diamond Tiara).
There are some more stunning pieces in the Norwegian Collection. She should wear one of them.

Yes i think also she should wear Queen Maud's Pearl Tiara in full more often. But Queen Sonja has a very limited selection of tiaras now that the amethysts have given to Mette-Marit. And there are many Tiara-Events in Norway compared to other Monarchies.

I love this Tiara and I wish she would wear it more often! IMO it's one of the most beautiful Pearl Tiaras.
Maybe Sonja doesn't wear it as often as in the past because it's just a copy of the original Tiara which was stolen years ago.;)

I don't really know what difference that would make...it isn't exactly made of glass and fake pearls...hahaha...

I love it,too. I think that when she does wear it, the queen's hair tends to cover it up a bit. But when you can see it...it's spectacular.

I think the Ear Rings and the Necklace belong to the Modern Topaz (Star-Wars) Tiara.

It is in the posession of Princess Ragnhild but unfortunately she mostly wears the Pearl-Circle Tiara. She wore it a few times in the 80's.

When princess Ragnhild dies her jewels, including the tiara, goes back to the crown/queen so we will se it on Mette Marit in many years...

So Harald's sisters didn't inherit their royal jewels from their mother. They only have them on loan? :confused:

It was King Olav who wanted the few jewels in the norwegian royal house to stay together. However - he gave/lent some fine pieces to his daughters because they acted as first ladies for many years. As none of their children will need great royal jewels in the future it was decided that the jewels should be returned to the crown when the princesses dies.

Really? what is your source for this. AFAIK Princess Astrid has said that she owns the Turqouis parue, I have never heared that the two senior princesses has borrowed jewelleries (except when Astrid was first lady). I think it is an open question if theese will be returned to the main royal brange, I guess it depends on some good will from the familes of the princesses and if HArald/Haakon wants to shell out alot of money to pay for them. I guess what MM will have to choose from is her own and the historic jewellery sonja uses today, Im guesing some of her more modern/private jewellery would go to her daughter maybe, but time will show, all the women in question are still very much alive and breathing:biggrin: there are no foundations like in sweden and the netherlands.

I have no written source but it was told by the guide last summer when I wisited the palace in Oslo and the group stopped by a portrait of Queen Alexandra and the guide told us about her jewels when a guest asked about the jewels in the royal family today...
