My translation, in Norwegian here
Yesterday Queen Sonja was awarded the Honorary award from the "Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International". The Queen gets the Prize for her love of travel both in offical and private capacity and that she trough her travels work to increase forreigners knowledge of Norway. The Travelorganisations sees very good results of the way the Royal Family represents Norway in abroad. Especailly important is it how Queen Sonja in a knowledgable and personal way shows her own pictures and tells about her own experiences in Norway abroad. The Queen is a great inspiration for everyone who works to the get tourists to Norway adn HSMAI is happy the Queen has accepted the award

Authorized biography of King Harald

An authorized biography of Norway's King Harald is due to appear four months before the king's 70th birthday.

Former Aftenposten editor Per Egil Hegge is the author of the work, and he has spent the past two years interviewing King Harald. Hegge has also spoken with all of the adult members of the Norwegian royal family and a wide range of those who know the king through official or personal channels.

The Queen took a stroll

I just viewed Aftenpostens English Royal site and found a series of pictures of Queen Sonja walking home after a public engagement in Oslo. The site says the pictures were originally postet on May, 26th, 2005 - as they weren't mentioned in this thread then, here is the link:

https://www.aftenposten.no/english/bi...20.ece?start=7

Just a question. In picture 6 you can see the queen and the mayor of oslo walking together over the lawn with the queen walking on his left hand side. Here in Germany, manners dictate that the woman always walks on the right hand side of the accompanying man.

Is this not seen so strictly in Norway? Just wondering about cultural differences...

The pictures can be found in an older version of this thread: https://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...-a-5264-9.html I recommend reading through the older news and picture threads as there are some fascinating tidbits in most of them :D

I think that Norway is a lot less formal in these matters than Germany, especially since this was not a formal event at all, but a spur of the moment kind of thing.

Is this not a cultural thing? I always thought a woman (and other "baggage" :D) was kept on your left so you could salute/shake hands, etc. with your right. Not so? Perhaps it differs from country to country.

Interview of 'El Pais' newspaper to King Harald and Queen Sonja due to the visit of the Kings of Spain to Norway next June

Harald V, the citizen king
The Norwegian monarch is proud of the peace mediations that its country makes

“The marriages between princes and current people are more and more frequent. I believe that it is a great advance. It is normal to allow that you can share your life with that you choose”, affirms Harald V, citizen king of Norway, country that the aristocracy in the century XIX abolished and that it enjoys in the XXI one the greater indices of well-being of the world. Harald V, of 69 years, knows well of what she speaks. Being inheriting prince one married in August of 1968 with a plebian, Sonja Haraldsen, daughter of a businessman and fan to the fashionable design. The mere announcement of the wedding caused a strong popular controversy and until debates in the Storting, the Parliament, on the future of the monarchy. In the end, the queen was accepted by the Norwegians with all normality.

“I like the one of mediating country of La Paz and I would like that she continued being it in the future. Norway gives Nobel of La Paz and is founding of the UN and NATO, In this land, Norway is a great country”, comments with pride the king. To that Norway file it hopes to unite another chapter soon. If the findings of new and enormous bags of gas and petroleum in the sea of Barents are confirmed, the Nordic country could reinforce the function that already carries out, in words of the monarch, of “guarantor of the power security of Europe”, to the margin of Russia.
The Kings of Spain have predicted to visit Norway the month that comes. Our country has clearly optimistic connotations in the ceiling of the continent. “For us, it means vacations and good luck”, says queen Sonja. “More than 800,000 Norwegians they visit every Spain year, almost one fifth part of the population”, points the king. Harald V, expert regatista, playfully comments means means serious that in spite of its recent excuses - in 2003 she surpassed a cancer of vejiga- still is able to defy to Don Juan Carlos. It will be necessary to see it.

20.00 The King is present for a show to mark that HM The Kings Guard is 150 years, Oslo Spektrum
Pic from https://www.mil.no/haren/hmkg/start/a...ticleID=122930

Today there is a huge military parade in Oslo, all the Kings guard and soldiers who have formerly served in that company will walk from the Akershus fortress to the Palace square where the King will do the yearly inspection, usually this takes place in the Kings Guard Camp but since they are 150 years now they do it infront of the Palace today. I wonder if anyone else from the family will show up. There is also a reception inside the Palace but we usually never see pictures of those.

Ingrid Alexandra 06-16-2006 08:16 AM

I looked at the parade and the inspection of the guard. The crown prince had joined the king to inspect the soldiers. There was some cameras from nrk there. Maybe there will be something on the news later today.

July is the holiday month in Norway. Generally, the school holidays start around June 23rd (St. John's Eve/Midsummer), the work holidays a week later, - and continue for four-five weeks. Norway is the country of summer intern workers in July - to put it like that.

Funeral of former Prime Minister Lars Korvald

You will se some pictures this wednesday, but not the happy kind. Other than that she ressumes her official agenda in the middel of August.

Queen Sonja is going to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Lars Korvald (1916-2006) in Bragernes Church in Drammen on the 12.07 at 12.30
https://www.kongehuset.no/dt_kongehus...d=5&gid=15&aid=
Queen Sonja is really the funeral-goer of the family, she seems to have gone to all the ones where their presense has been required lately, it would be nice if they split it a little, noone likes going to funerals but I guess here it makes sense since she would know him much better than her children. Korvald was Prime minister from 1972-1973. The expenses for his funeral is covered by the state. He dies only two weeks after his wife he was married to for 63 years
