Polfoto 25-11-2003 Oslo - King Harald hospitalized Norwegians were waiting Wednesday for more information after the news that King Harald had been admitted to hospital, suffering from hematuria, blood in the urine. But official details were sparse, and physicians were quick to point out that hematuria can mean anything from an infection to cancer. The pictures showes Princess Märtha Louise and Crown Princess Mette-Marit on their way out of the hospital after visiting the King.

(NTB 01.12.03 kl. 18:26) |
She looked so sad in these photos. Not good for the baby. I hope she and the king will get better.

Crown couple has hands full Talk about everything happening at once. Norway's Crown Prince Haakon not only is acting regent while his father is sick, but it's a particularly busy season for the royals. And on top of that, he and Crown Princess Mette-Marit are moving. The holiday season is a busy time for just about everybody, but for Norway's crown couple, it's turned downright hectic. Crown Prince Haakon took over royal duties for King Harald last week, after the monarch was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He's thus presided over the weekly session with the government, stepped in for such official duties as accrediting new ambassadors and must prepare and tape the reigning monarch's annual nationally broadcast New Year's address to the Norwegian people. This week, meanwhile, is dominated by all the ceremony tied to the annual awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize, the one time of the year when Oslo is guaranteed to attract international attention. Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will greet prize winneer Shirin Ebadi of Iran Tuesday, preside over Wednesday's awards ceremony and banquet, and attend Thursday's annual Nobel Concert. The crown prince's new duties as regent are expected to last at least through February, the earliest point at which King Harald is expected to be fully recovered. Meanwhile, the crown couple is expecting their first child together next month, and also was keen to move into newly remodeled quarters at the official residence they're taking over at Skaugum, west of Oslo. That means packing and all the chaos associated with any household move. A large van was parked outside their current flat at Ullevaalsveien 67 in Oslo on Monday, signalling that the move was underway. And then there's Christmas to think about, one of the most socially active and important seasons in Norway. Doctors already have cautioned the crown princess to take it easy during the latter part of her pregnancy. Maybe the couple will be able to take a break next spring. ..what with CP Haakon being regent of Norway, I'm surprised this topic is not up-to-date !!!!
|
i was seeing the phot and i was asking to myself why don't crown princesses attend to that kind of acts? i didn't see maxima or mm, for example, in any of them. and i doubt letizia or mary will attend when they are cp's.

1. Mette-Marit won't be appearing much in public until August. Maternity-leave.
2. She wouldn't have appeared had she not been on maternity leave. Nor is Queen Sonja there. Since the duty Haakon is performing is original King Harald's, Queen Sonja would have been the one who would have been there, had it been custom. 3. It's not a tradition for spouses to been present when receiving the credentials of the new ambassadors. As far as I know that's also the case in Denmark, I'm not sure about the other countries. Handing over the credentials from the ambassador's own head of state does not count as a state-visit. Any more explaining needed? |
