thanks for keeping us updated, Watcher!
HM is certainly recycling everything lately... |
HM will hand out the Silver Carnations today,at Noordeinde Palace. In the evening she,in the company of TRH Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien, will attend the european premiere of the "Bintou Were",the Sahel opera,Amsterdam.
The opera finds its origin in an idea of the late Prince Claus and is sponsored by the Prince Claus Foundation,The Republic of Mali and Théâter du Châtelet,Paris. The opera had its world premiere in Bamako,Mali on february 17th in the presence of the Co-Chairs of the PCF,TRH Prince Friso and Prince Constantijn and their spouses. |
HM handed out the Silver Carnations at Noordeinde Palace today, awarded to people who voluntarily have made exceptional efforts in the field of nature and cultural preservation in The Netherlands,The Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

She looks great. Seems to be a busy day for her. First the Silveren Anjers, then a meeting with the Nobel Peace Prize Winner Prof. Wangari Maathai and her daughter Warijira Maathai (on the far right of this picture)
ANP Beeldbank And tonight the Sahelopera. What a workload. Amirable!!! |
She does look great. Wonder who her new tailor is these days since the old one, her favorite, retired. Anyone know?

HM opened the Art&Theater centre "De Kunstlinie" at the city of Almere yesterday, june 8th.

HM will be out & about in the northern province of Groningen and the island of Schiermonnikoog (just try and pronounce that!;) )today with a full day schedule.
Het Koninklijk Huis |
Ah, Groningen must be pleased, I read today in 'De Pers' that the province was neglected by the politicians during their tour of 100 days through the country. Much to the outcry of Johan Remkes (parlementairian from Groningen).
|
This is an especially nice picture of HM, looking at a portrait of her mother in Almere: From PPE
|
I believe HM attended a lecture of Sonia Gandhi somewhere in The Netherlands a few days ago, but I can't figure out, when and were exactly, neither did I see any pictures of the lecture (not online or in newspapers).

Thank you anirac! I agree, HM looks wonderfull indeed. I do wonder why Sonia Gandhi was there, perhaps the received some sort of decoration from the university? It should have been an interesting lecture anyway...

Het Koninklijk Huis TRH Prince Friso and Princess Mabel were also in attendance. |

The photographers certainly love pictures of Beatrix backprofile (helmet and hat), there have been so many of them since the first one in Egypt won a national prize... :). Anyway, good to so HM, even from the back.
- Thanks for posting a link to the lecture Lucien! |

She seemed to have a lot of fun there.:flowers:
She also had a few advice for the residents: Schiermonnikoog must have a big problems with savaged cats. HM said that you needn't shoot them, but you can catch them with fish and valerian. The origin advice was from her husband, she added. Very animal-friendly. :flowers: Between I love this picture ANP Beeldbank One Penny for her thoughts (Gosh boys, where you got these heats?!?) |

Funny to see the former ministers of transportation, some of them belonged to the most hated persons in the country for a while ;). Esp. good to see Carla Peijs again, one of the most likable politicians IMHO.
- The first trainride on this route had to be shortened btw, as protesters occupied part of the railwaytrack. |
20-06-2007 Utrecht Queen Beatrix attended the opening of the Domus Medica building in Utrecht.

HM will pay a State Visit to Estonia and Lithuania in may 2008. :flowers: This morning HM will attend (part of-) the High Level Forum of OESO,Noordwijk. |
I know this is quite random but, does Queen Beatrix know about the good [Dutch] sumaratin [maybe I'm reading too much into things but his last name is de Waard], who put his life on the line to save a [Melbourne, Aussie] woman? The dutch man was shot in the chest and lost up to 10L of blood. The whole city/CentralBusinessDistrict was shut down. There was this massive man hunt for the shooter [was a bikie member]. The shooter is in police custody now.

Sad,the "Majoor" was such a delightfull person. But then,to reach the blessed age of 94,she was content with what life had given her.
Oh that pic!Wonderfull! It caused quite a stirr when that came out,you know,we were still right smack in the middle of the spruitjes-cultuur here, and then to watch the Crown Princess in the notorious, and oh so famous,Red Light district,it-was-not-done! She did it anyway, selling that Salvation Army mag to prostetutes, pimps and the like, and talking to get an idea as how these people think/live/work.She was recognised by many in the café's/bars/and whatever rauncy outlet they went into, but no-one gave a hoot, they all thought she was a swell gall and kept their mouth shut. |
The Major (actually she became Lieutenant-general) was a wonderfull person indeed, always so down-to-earth, funny and understanding. Really one of a kind. I am sure that HM will send flowers or even ea representative to her funeral.
|
Major Bosshardt died yesterday. She was a long lasting friend of the queen and her family. The announcer of the queen said, that she is deeply affectes by the death of the major.
|
And while her granddaughter has her little birthdayparty with the press, the Queen visited dutch soldier, which came from Afghanistan. While the working visit she spoke also with injure soldiers, the pastor and psychologists.

HM was on a working visit to the old dutch towns of Edam/Volendam and the Beemster polder in the province of Noord-Holland.

The Queen is fantastically dressed up to the max.
I like it that she always looks like a Queen indeed. :flowers: |
The hat wasn't too flamboyant this time, but the colour red suits her very well. What did she visit in Volendam?
|
The Queen visited a private initiative called "Moedige Moeders" (brave mothers). This are women who fight against the drug addiction of their kids or even their husbands. HM just spoke about them with a lot of admiration. She also did a very private and heart-opened (in my eyes) remark. She told that she also have two godchildren who had problems with drugs and that it is hell for the families. (Is this something new or did somebody heard similar before?)
She also visited the memorial place for the victims of fire 2001 and spoke to fire victims of this catastrophe. |
I never heard her about her godchildren before.... sheds a whole other light on Margarita's revelations
very good of HM to support this initiative and also to visit the memorial for the victims of the fire, she was there shortly after the fire too, to support the victims and I am sure her continuing interest must be some kind of support. |
[quote=Marengo;632824]I never heard her about her godchildren before.... sheds a whole other light on Margarita's revelations

She is also godmother of Prince Pieter-Christian and Juliana Guillermo. |

Jorge Peréz Guillermo & HRH Princess Christina of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld |
Uh,I don't think the list is complete,yet,Henri.
:ermm: |
No, she must have some godchildren that are unknown to us. I do kno that she is godmother to one or even two great-grandchildren of Princess Alice of Athlone (Abel-Smith should be their last name). I have a picture of her at a baptism in ENgland in one of the 'Golden's books of Royalty', can't remember which one it is though.
|
As was to be expected: today I read letters in several newspapers wondering 'Where was the Queen' during the funeral of Majoor Bosshardt.
|
Quote:
HM was represented by her Grandmistress Mrs.Martine van Loon-Labouchère at the service and the actual funeral.Besides that, there was a huge beautifull wreath from Her Majesty,Alexander and Máxima and Margriet & Pieter for their dear old friend. HM had a scheduled function simultaniously, she opened the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition at The Hague. Het Koninklijk Huis ANP Beeldbank Picture: Het Koninklijk Huis |
Well, we had the same angry lettres after HM didn't attend funerals of Pim Fortuyn, Theo van Gogh, so that is why I expected one this time too. The usual nitpicking. Today I read several lettres in HM 'defence'.
|
HM Queen Beatrix and Princess Máxima arrived in Stavanger,Norway this afternoon to join the celebrations of HM Queen Sonja's 70th birthday.
PPE Agency Courtesy PPE/Nieboer. :flowers: |
I wasd wondering if HM or one of her sons will attend the funeral of Count Gottfriend von Bismarck (44), son of Fuerst Ferdinand and Fuerstin ELisabeth. Ferdinand was one of the closest friends of the late Prince Claus and he is also a godfather to the Prince of Orange. The count led a rather loose life, orgies and twice a person died in his house due to an overdose of heroine or cocaine.
Perhaps he is one of HM's godchildren btw, which we discussed above? |
Quote:
That said,Gottfried fits the discription, what a wasted life of drugs and alcohol and degenerate individual, and what hell it must have been for his family dealing with him. The funeral will take place within the closest family circle. With HM in Norway and Alexander in Guatamala,no chance she/he will attend. |
I just love these pictures, wonderfull to see how much HM is loved.:

A little bit out of thread, but i went trough the old newsthread and read that henri m. never saw Her Majesty with glasses on official occasions. And I remember that not so long ago I found an interesting link from NOS in 2005:
NOSJOURNAAL You have to look at the clip. Strange to say I don't see the glasses at the picture above. |
Another dear friend of Beatrix and Claus died:
Former german diplomat Otto von der Gablentz passed away age 76. Von der Gablentz was german ambassador to The Netherlands from 1983 to 1990,and a close friend to HM Queen Beatrix and the late Prince Claus. After his retirement he moved to live in Amsterdam, where he passed away yesterday. https://www.coleurop.be/template.asp?...ctor&sub=gable Beneluxmessageboard |

I'm so sorry I forgot him!!!

A very sad weekend for Her Majesty:
Today another close friend of the Royal Family has died in Amsterdam: Schelto Patijn (1936), Dutch politician and former mayor of Amsterdam (1994-2001). He was the son of Conny Patijn, chamberlain of the late Queen Juliana and was also a descendant of Michiel de Ruyter. He knew Queen Beatrix since their youth and were, at one time, dance partners. They remained friends and met each other at various social functions. |

Oh my goodness! This is so sad. It is really a tragic weekend for her.
|
This weekend is not getting better:
I really can't keep pace... I hope HM can... https://images.boardhost.com/emoticons/sad.gif Also Erasmus Prize winner German photographer Bernd Becher died ... I know they knew eachother quite well... Thank you,Joris:flowers: Beneluxmessageboard (btw, I don't remeber the short cut of the board's name :bang: Could sombody help?) |
It is the nastiest thing of getting older probably, you see all the old familiar faces dying.
Wasn't HM 'close', or rumoured to be close, to an elder brother of Schelto Patijn, in the early sixties? |

Hi,
I am probably completely off topic, but I trying to find a specific photo of Queen Beatrix and wonder if you could help me? It is a pretty famous one, a beautiful black and white portrait of her , probably recently done, since you can see all wrinkles and spots, and so much personality... Thank you... |
do you mean that photo of beatrix?

Oh dear, HM has taken inspiration from Mabel of the Bows! She looks very well though, her holidays obviously did her good. I like the colour of her outfit and she seems to be wearing a new (paste?) brooch too.

HM seems to wear these tunics more and more (this one isn´t to bad though). Somehow she reminds me of Queen Wilhelmina in these kind of dresses. Is daughter Vreughdenhil still working with HM (on her clothes)? I believe the last thing of Sheila de Vries she wore was at the Belgian state visit, if that oriental dress was made by Sheila...

It will be a girls night out tonight as HM and Princess Máxima will attend the gala premiere of the Hans van Manen Festival,
a tribute to the 75 year old choreographer at the Muziektheater,Amsterdam. The San Fransisco Ballet will perform "Grosse Fuge",the Mariinski Theater (Kirov) "Trois Gnossiennes" and ofcours the National Ballet and Danstheater II will perform as well. Het Koninklijk Huis :flowers: |
Please your Majesty, fire your stylist and burn your wardrobe.

Apparently they were sold for 2600 to 5500 euros! Didn´t the princesses used to make these drawings as a sort of thank-you card to well wishers? I remember that I saw some of Irene and Margriet in a book at some point too. Apparently they were bought by Aad Ouborg, of the ´Princess´chain (household machines).
