Today the Duchess of Brabant will visit the André Scheers House which provides information and psychosocial support for severely burned victims and their family. This program is integrated into the Teaching hospital of Ghent. At the time of multidisciplinary round tables, the Princess will explain the course of care and follow-up. The Princess also has an abstract contact with old badly burned persons which called upon the House Andre Scheers.

More information on the facility in Dutch (while we await pictures;) )

Still no pics, but you can watch parts of the visit online in the vtm-news. Just follow this link and go to Donderdag 14/09 19uur. The news clip starts at about 28 min run time.

Princess Mathilde had extensive conservations with burn patients, their dependents and with the medical staff. The presentation by the physicians contained pictures of massive burns and Mathilde has been under the impression of these severe injuries. VTM interviewed a member of the medical team and she told them that the princess was very kind and very concerned towards the children and asked them a lot of questions. She took some extra time and stayed one hour longer than planned. At the end she got some presents for Elisabeth, Gabriel and Emmanuel from the little patients, who are as attentive as brave.

Thanks for the clip Johann, it must be a slow day for the photograph agencies.

I now truely admire Mathilde. My brother is severely burned and I know it is very hard to look at burn patients, especially within the first few months of them being burned. I also know, from a psychological standpoint, it's very hard to deal with being burned or having a family member of yours burned. Taking care of someone who has been burned is a long process. For my brother it's still going on and will continue to go on until he dies because he was burned so badly. I'm glad to see that Mathilde visited this house.

Mathilde has two engagements today:
She takes part at an academic session at the “Palace of the Academies” in Brussels to mark the 20th anniversary of the University Children’s Hospital Queen Fabiola.
And she visits the school “Chouette“ in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean in connection with the Heritage Open Days. Mathilde is invited by the scholars to learn more about the history of the school and it’s surrounding – the Duchess of Brabant Place.

Here are some pics from the last event. And I really love her outfit…. (Belga, here are some more)

Mathilde looks great, I would say it's kind of "free style" of her clothes from the visit in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. Is it first time when we saw her in jeans?

No, certainly not - but I think it's the first time she's worn jeans for a public visit (very apropriate here), when she went cycling with Filip on carfree day she wore jeans as well, and on lots of private occasions of course.

johann 09-15-2006 12:54 PM

By now she has worn jeans as “work outfit” when she was visiting sport events/watching tennis games. She has worn jeans trousers at the Roland Garros half-final in Paris and during the Fed Cup earlier this year.

…and getty has some nice pics too. (credit: Getty Images/ Mark Renders)

Thank you for the photos!!! Mathilde is looking as elegant and radiant as always.

Alisa 09-15-2006 06:25 PM

Thank you for the pictures.
I'm quite surprised by the Duchess' casual jean jacket, but if one were going to wear one an event with children is most appropriate. I think she looks great in that black and white suit..très élégant.:flowers:

juliana 09-15-2006 10:38 PM

Always lovely photos of Mathilde and she is hardly ever looking towards the cameras and always seems totally focused on the people she is with. A true princess.

Sister Morphine 09-15-2006 11:04 PM

She looks very relaxed, which is key when you're working with kids. Kids can feed off your nerves, and if you look nervous or apprehensive.....they'll know. I also love the outfit she's wearing; a jean jacket can look just as classy as a black blazer if you pair it with the right clothes and it looks like she's done that. :-)

Mathilde1286 09-16-2006 01:55 AM

Wow! Mathilde looks great!!! I love the jean jacket and white pants combo!

Hannelore 09-16-2006 02:08 AM

Molenbeek, where the school is, is a very poor neighbourhood of Brussels where nearly only immigrants live. It has very high criminality and disemployment rates. I think this nice jeans jacket was lot more apropriate for the visit than somthing formal - somehow it was a bit closer to he kids' world, but she still looks stylish.

small info: the bandage around Filip's hand is because of a broken finger.

Mathilde looks great with jeans !:flowers:

Danielle 09-16-2006 08:04 PM

I didn't even realise it was a jean-jacket until closer inspection. It just doesn't look like one from a distance. I'm not a big fan of denim jackets, but hers is actually very stylish and I think it's appropriate to the event.

I really love how she kneels at the children's level instead of half bending down like others often do. I think it shows that she's not too 'good' to go down to their level and actually have a conversation with them. That's what I love about Mathilde. It doesn't matter who it is, she'll treat them just the same as if she were talking to her own friends or family.

Article from HELLO
Belgium's Crown Princess Mathilde was overwhelmed with affection when she met pupils on a recent engagement in the Brussels region. School children bearing flags and balloons in the country's national colours of black, yellow and red crowded eagerly round their royal guest....

johann 09-20-2006 01:44 PM

Princess Mathilde paid a visit to Brussels city district Les Marolles today. The reason for this visit is the 50th anniversary of the “Club de Jeunesse des Marolles” (=the local youth club). Mathilde took a closer look at some workshops and had conversations with the youngsters and their animators.

The “Club de Jeunesse des Marolles” tries to be the link between the children, teenagers and adults and assists the multicultural and intergenerational exchange between the inhabitants to lead to a better integration. The Marolles is known as a traditional working-class neighbourhood with many socially disadvantaged inhabitants (=unemployed persons, immigrants …). Lately, this district changes its original character and becomes more and more trendy and expensive. The Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege, the school of Elisabeth and Gabriel, is located here too.

I'll tell you one thing, you want your future queen to be good at ping-pong and foozball. This way, if a frat party ever breaks out in the palace, she's the girl you want on your team.

Emmily 09-22-2006 03:25 PM

She always seems so at ease and comfortable in any situation.

kristinvu 09-27-2006 01:51 PM

On the 19th of October Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde will visit an art exhibition in The Hague (The Netherlands) together with Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima.

It will be nice to see them together again.

Maxie 09-27-2006 04:16 PM

That's great news, kristinvu! I will be looking forward to that event. I might even consider going there, normally thursday is my day off at work...:flowers:

leanne 09-27-2006 06:12 PM

Does Princess Mathilde have any public engagements prior to the 19th October?

Does anybody know when the year of microfinance of the UN has ended? I hope both Maxima as Mathilde will continue their ambassadorship as they are doing a great job and seem very dedicated to it IMO.

kate2 09-28-2006 03:01 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing her again! And I agree, I also hope they both will continue their ambassadorship for microfinance.

The UN proclaimed the year 2005 as “Year of Microcredit”. So the main activities took place in 2005. The final report has been published this spring.
I guess you remember that Maxima accepted another finance related UN “job” ;) And Mathilde is UNAIDS/UNICEF special representative for Children and AIDS and still promotes microcredits as an effective development instrument too. So both are continuing their great work.

johann 09-29-2006 07:35 PM

Princess Mathilde and Queen Fabiola paid a private visit to the Royal Museum for Art and History today. They admired the collection of Dora and Paul Janssen. The Janssen’s collected precolumbian art and their collection will now remain in Belgium since Dora Janssen reached an agreement with the Flemish government about the inheritance tax today. Mathilde and Fabiola have been guided through the exhibition by Dora Janssen herself.
To catch a glimpse follow this link and go to Vrijdag 29/09, 19u the clip starts at 21:30 min running time.

Thanks for informing me Johann. I actually forgot! But great to hear they are continuing their work.

-

Great link to Mathilde & Fabiola btw!

Emily 09-29-2006 09:44 PM

Johann - you are so on top of everything - first the Luxemborg wedding and now the update here. I am glad you clarified the activities of M & M because I, too, was under the impression their UN work was continuing, except I thought both were still involved with microfinance, so was wrong.

I also appreciate the TV link showing Mathilde and Fabiola. I miss seeing the Crown Princely Belgian family of late - any ideas on why they are not out in public more?

johann 10-01-2006 03:01 PM

Prince Philippe inspected the company ALFACAM - EURO1080 in Lint today. Alfacam provides TV-facilities and services to broad-casters and production houses. As a participant of Belgium’s open enterprise day Alfacam invited the public to have a closer look inside. Philippe was accompanied by his new advisor Boudewijn Dereymaeker (former Belgian ambassador in Zimbabwe). He even took some extra time and elongated his visit.
A small TV clip can be found here.

I don´t know. The official agenda reflects only a part of their work and there are some unofficial activities out of the public eye.
And both, Mathilde and Philippe, got a new advisor – so maybe they took a “training” period.

BTW I stumbled across some pics of Trooping the Colours in Bruges some weeks ago. (picturedesk)

How are the Duke of Brabant and the Duke of Edinbrough related

Marengo 10-02-2006 01:48 AM

Thanks Johann, I never knew that the Duke of Edinburgh went to Bruges, nice to see pictures of the event :)

-

To Royal Fan: The Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of Brabant are only very distantly related, both are descendants from King Christian VIII of Denmark.

Christian VIII -> George I of Greece -> Andrew of Greece -> Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Christian VIII -> King Frederik VIII of Denmark -> Pss Ingeborg of Sweden-> Astrid of Belgium -> King Albert II -> Phillipe, Duke of Brabant.

I don’t think so. We rarely see Philippe without a tie, so you don’t have to be concerned. ;)
The open enterprise day is an informal event. More than 1 million curious Belgians had a look inside factories and companies, almost everyone was in casual clothes – so Philippe opted for a less official outfit too and surely wasn’t underdressed.

Great photos of a lovely family! Thank you Johann! The autumn colors they are wearing tone beautifully with the green background of Laeken park and the result is stunning photos.

Emmily 10-04-2006 06:41 PM

What a beautiful family! I love Mathilde's clothing, and the children are adorable. Now that I think of it, Prince Philippe looks wonderful too.

johann 10-04-2006 06:57 PM

Emmanuel and co. capture tomorrows “Het Laatste Nieuws”headline.
The article mentions that the kids are wearing similar clothes (ooops that was hardly to overlook). And whilst Elisabeth and Gabriel are already pros, Emmanuel still has to adapt himself to the photographers – he preferred to stay on mom’s arm.
Sidenote: HLN is the most popular newspaper in Flanders. One cannot say that they are Philippe’s best buddies, but obviously some nice Laeken pics still sell.(hln via pressdisplay)

Wonderful pictures! Just love this family.
Little Elisabeth is a carbon copy of both Paola as well as Mathilde's father!
Her brother Gabriel is the spitting image of his gorgeous mother.
And the youngest? Cant put my finger on it, he doesn't look like anyone as far as I can tell.

One thing though, and I've said this before: these kids look happy, but kindof anemic and pale all the same, can't help but think that each time I spot a new foto session of these kids..

Princess Mathilde focussed on microfinance again today (Oct. 6th). She participated in a conference about Immigrants´ entrepreneurship and microfinance in Belgium at the Solvay library in Brussels. Microfinance is a way to support those who don’t have access to traditional bank credits and is practised in Europe as well. The conference zooms in on the entrepreneurship of immigrants as an instrument for better integration. Furthermore the participants suggest intensifying the supply of microcredits to stimulate the demand. (source: ppe, a few more can be found here)

Aahh -- I've been waiting for these photos today! Thank you, Johann. Lovely photos and interesting earrings! I am so glad she and Maxima are continuing their support of microfinance. I recently spoke with a friend of mine who is in banking and he said his bank has a very active program in microfinance, which I was happy to hear.

Thank you for pics johann and fanletizia!
Mathilde looks so nice, I love her outfit, especially her high heels!

Thanks indeed. Mathilde looks great, as usually. And I just love the shoes & earrings. But I epecially like her dedication to the microcredits, it must have taken her some efforts to get familiar with the topic as she doesn't come from a financial background (carreer-wise).

There are new pictures of Mathilde en Philipe voting today at www.belga.be and on the site www.gettyimages.com. Just type Mathilde and search. She has a handbag with a picture of Elisabeth on it.

Princess Mathilde visits the Jewish college "Athénée Ganenou” in Ukkel today (Oct. 11th). The “Athénée Ganenou” has a joint venture project witch the Catholic college “Saint-Pierre” in Jette. This cooperation aims for a better understanding of each others culture and appreciates religious distinctions as enrichment. IMO A great project for more tolerance (and great leather trousers for Mathilde too!)
Mathilde attends a meeting and some workshops to mark the 10th anniversary of this project. This years meeting gives attention to the Jewish Sukkoth (Feast of Tabernacles). (Belga/getty)

Johann, thank you for these great photos. Those leather pants look great on such long and lean legs! More importantly, though, I think this is such a great project for PM to highlight -- any kind of increased understanding between faiths I applaud.

She looks great, very few princesses could wear leather pants and still look so elegant. Thanks for all the photos.

Do I recall her wearinga red leather skirt recently? She looks incredible in leather pants! It takes real class and elegance to make them look so good!

Crown Princess Mathilde in HELLO!

kristinvu 10-25-2006 12:40 PM

On the 22nd of November, Princess Mathilde will be present at a 'reading-for children' afternoon in the Zoo of Antwerp.
She will also receive a book with fairy-tales titled "Fairy-tales for a princess" the book is dedicated to Priness Elisabeth en Mathilde herself wrote the intro of the book.

leanne 10-26-2006 05:15 PM

Does Princess Mathilde have any engagements before the 22nd November?

magnik 10-26-2006 05:20 PM

No. https://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...ndar-7150.html
Interesting why so long of doing nothing? Maybe she is expecting or smth?

johann 10-26-2006 06:04 PM

Not seldom activities are added only a few days beforehand to the agenda. And next week are autumn school holidays in Belgium, so maybe Mathilde and Philippe are simply enjoying some free time with their three children.
And it’s a safe guess that Mathilde will attend the reception at the Belgian parliament to mark the King´s day/feast of the King on November 15th.
