The father of my mothers father was born in the mid 1800s in Quebec, presumtively in Trois-Riverie. This was a period in time that holds much mystery for the frenchman in Quebec. Remember England won Acadian at the end of the french and indian war around 1763 and won Quebec at the end of the seven years war around 1766. By uhe time he was born Quebec had been a controlled by England for over 70 years. In 1840 the current day nation of Canada was signed into law with the unity act. Then I noticed something strange, the last names of the people in my tree began to change from Chabot to Chabotte. The father of my fathers mother also changed his name from Roi/Roy to King. I can not find a birth record or a census on him anywhere. What was it that cause the frenchmen to change thifq names in such a large number? It is a mystery that way never be completly answered. The variations of the Chabot name are great. Just to name a few they are Chabotte, Jabotte, and I know there are more.
