I also discovered that the marriage record is not the only good source of information for building the family tree. Here in the USA and in Canada the census proved to be very valuable as also. On the cnesus record you can find all the members of the house that are residents at the time of the census. The most current census availale is from the year 1930. At least here in the USA. I think the reason for this is for privacy. A census from the 1940s has a greater chance of someone that is still alive listed on it. When you find a census that is revelant to your tree I also discovered it to be important to take the time to record everyone on it that is part of the family. The main reason for this is to try and get other tree compair with your tree. The more people looking for the same person holds a greater chance of turning up a relevant record. You can try and do all the work yourself and not accept any hints or share any hints with any other trees but it will take much longer.
