I prefer the Victorian/Edwardian eras of dress, specifically the 1870s and 1880s. The corsets must have been icky, and with the petticoat, bustle etc. it wouldn't be very cool in the summer, bbut it's so elegant. They really dressed for the occassion back then.

I totally agree Empress Sissi's dress is one of the most beautiful and fairy-tale dresses of the world.:)

I like Queen Marie Antoniette´s dresses a lot:flowers:

Thanks so much,it is lovely with two different headpieces:flowers:

Empress Sissi!Yeap, she did stand out with her gowns.Keep those beautiful pics coming, please.

Thank you, dear Magnik! All of them seem "loaded",but so regal,on the other hand.
About the last one:is this her wedding dress?

Not a real dress of Marie-Antoinette, but still... It depicts the young Dauphine at the time she arrived at the French court.

Feathers!

Feathers were an integral part of the Royal wardrobe early last century.

A new blog, Royal Glitter has an interesting article on the subject (pic 1).
The site is in Dutch but can be translated (pic 2).

Gowns and robes worn by Her Majesty Wilhelmina Helena Pauline Maria, Queen of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1880-1962), exposed at Het Loo Palace. The dresses comes from the Foundation Historic Collections of the House Orange-Nassau, one of the many family-foundations to maintain and preserve the collections of the Dutch royal family. The pictures were made for the book In Royal Array, Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.

Look how surprisingly colourful a dress can be in real life...

Queen Juliana on Prinsjesdag 1968

The same dress in 2015, in colour...

Queen Juliana thought it was ugly that her Order would cross the nice beadwork, so she managed it so that the riband was worn under the beadwork with special buttons.

See the riband under the beadwork

A truly fantastic piece of art: a detail of a collar worn by Marguerite, Duchesse de Lorraine et Bar née De Gonzague (1591-1632). It is a detail of the painting by Franz Pourbus, the younger.
