A place where you could advice CP Maxima what you think would suit her from casual to evening wear (Keeping in mind her figure shape) shoes to bags and accessories (hats, hair bands, scarfs etc ) and/or jewelry. Fashion advisors don’t only give there input on fashion wear they also give their opinion on how hair should look, so feel free to do so.
Keep in mind the different seasons and whether she is pregnant or not.

Please follow the forum rules

Enjoy !:)

On the overall look the Princess dresses fine. Her evening wear and jewelry is the very best of all other 'crownprincesses' .

I have two advices for her, concerning her daywear:

- cut in the accessoiries (less is more)
- always wear a hat ór wear the hair up in a chignon

:flowers:

But I have the idea the Princess is less strict as long as she is not the spouse to His Majesty. The dresscode of Princess Máxima will in that case upgrade to one level higher.

She has dazzled in some spectacular evening wear, always figure flattering and classy. However, I think some of her daywear outfits tend to be too bright and over-the-top. I'd suggest less flamboyant hats and more tailored suits.

Different levels in dresscode

According to the Dutch royalty and etiquette expert mrs. Reinildis van Ditshuyzen, who works for both the Dutch and the German television, there is a fine line and difference in 'levels' of etiquette.

Sometimes Princess Máxima looks 'unprincessy' but that often has a reason: visiting a juvenile girls penitentiary centre in Louboutins and Chanel and a big hat, is a bit overdressed, even for a Princess.

She explained that the Queen is always and ever The Queen. She will always and ever wear a hat, gloves, being surrounded by hofdames, uniformed aides and the whole tralala.

Princess Máxima and Princess Margriet (sister to the Queen) are one level behind. They are not always with a hat and gloves. Their entourage and escorte is smaller. The rules are not that tight.

The only other royal lady who, so now and then, has a public duty is Princess Laurentien. The public expectation of Princess Laurentien's appearance is different than that of the Queen or Princess Máxima.

Also on Princes' Day, a very formal day (State Opening of Parliament), you can clearly see that Princess Laurentien has (or takes) more freedom and dares to experiment. For Princess Máxima and Princess Margriet the unwritten expectation and rules are somewhat tighter. And for the Queen: the highest level, as usual.

So when you see a pregnant Princess Máxima, unflattering and with loose hair: this is still 'forgiven' to her. When she is the spouse to His Majesty The King, the expectations are much higher. And I'm sure that also a 40-years old Máxima will dress impeccable.

I didnt start this thread meaning that Maxima has bad taste or anything like that.:)

Henri M, thank you for sharing the information, very intresting. It must be difficult living byt hose rules, because you would like to have freedom with what to wear and feel comftable stepping out in public. I like Maximas outfits, sometimes too colorful, or too much print, but still does it in a good way. she has had some bad days. everyone had differentr taste, it would be great to pull things together.:flowers:

would you like to share some examples? pant or skirt suits? any specific color?

Thanks for posting the experts opinion. I disagree with her justification for Máxima's often messy hair and dissheveled appearance. In my humble opinion a princess should always look a princess. Her appearance should be neat, appropriate, and presentable whether she's meeting a Head of State or visiting juvenile delinquents. It's interesting that Princess Margriet and Princess Laurentien who are both obviously not on the same level as the Queen and have very different styles understand this, yet Máxima does not.

Alisa, you made some intresting points.
I think Maxima still does not really know what suits her whether its suits to dresses, solid or printed things. I strongly agree that she should always look her best. Her hair usually is messy, id wish she pulls it back in a pony tail or so, will dig up a picture

Some of Percy's items look rather wearable but still fresh, I would love to see Maxima try something of him. Maybe she can try something of Daryl van Wouw to, who was the star of the Amsterdam Fashion Week (yes, that does exsist). For more conservative clothes Maxima could also turn to Paul Schulten or Frans Hoogendoorn (who dresses half of the ladies of The Hague).

But I think Maxima will keep playing 'safe' with Natan. Luckily she can wear Graciela Naum again, so leet's hope to see some of her outfits to. And perhaps some more Valentino day& evening wear for important events, Maxima seems to pay more attention to her hair, make-up, jewels etc when she wears Valentino.

Another thing I would like to see is that she stopped wearing her hair lose. the way she had it on Queensday was still young-ish but it looked in place. And I would like her to try a few shades darker hair to, just to see what it looks like.

Another thing: not to much make-up, no boots and no screaming flowery paterns. No neck-covering scarfs either, they are not flattering her, as she has a round face. I qould love to see her wear hats more often. Though I like Fabienne Delvigne, I would like her to try hats from others to, just to break a pattern.

Percy Irausquín.

I agree on your judgement on Percy Irausquín

Percy Irausquín would have the advantage that the Princess will also wear couture made by a designer born on one of the Netherlands Caribbean overseas isles (Aruba), so that she gives positive attention to good developments from the isles.

The disadvantage is the too shiny, too sexy designs for a Princess of the Netherlands.
And Princess Máxima has not the best model figure, of course.

Addy van den Krommenacker would be glamour, but I dislike it that TV-, musical- and filmstars buy at Addy van den Krommenacker too.
I think that the Princess should keep herself away from soapies and actresses.

To my taste he makes glamorous fashion, very wearable and tasteful. For her daywear the Princess maybe should go to 's-Hertogenbosch (Bois-le-Duc) in Brabant, where he is located. As long as Addy keeps his mouth shut, does not 'drop names' with his royal clientèle, I would not mind to see Princess Máxima there....

Hats

Beige hat with a brown ribbon - this would look good with one of Maximas brown outfits. This is ideal for any event, not flashy, elegent
weird grey hat - this is great since Maxima likes wearing unusall hats. this is great, has been seen in similar also this is a color that she obtains for.

Maybe Princess Máxima can buy something Dutch:

Percy Irausquin

Read coat dress - Red looks good onMaxima & this would be suitable for summer, length is perfect imo.I also think if she wears her hair up this would be breathtaking
Brown skirt/blue top - also a great choice, combinations are soft, contrast each other, would be perfect with a summer hat or could also work for fall since brown is a warm color. The bow detail in the front looks nice as well.

Ive just seen his site, Addy has some beautiful daytime outfits which would suite any royal lady. His styles are somehow similar to Maxima's & most of them I could see on her. Im not to fond about his evening wear, not very glamoures nor suitable for a royal, theyve been seen in much nicer. I think every individual wears the cloth's in a different way & im pretty sure Addy will make sure that she gets something different. Dont forget she goes for Valentino who dresses lots of celenrities & other royal ladies.

IMO, she needs to use more dutch designers.

Thanks again for the info Henri M.! I am actually becoming your fan!

Is Máxima still wearing Graciela Naum's designs (wearing them BACK, i mean?)

My advice: ditch Eduard Vermeulen and leave his designs to the Belgians and get yourself a dutch designer, preferably Addy van den Krommenacker:

Addy van den Krommenacker - www.addyvandenkrommenacker.nl

from what I see his clothes are as good or better as those of Natan, so no need for Maxima to wear the same clothes as Mathilde, Claire, Maria-Theresa, Paola and Silvia any longer.

And if Maxima keeps insisting on Belgian designers, try Gerald Watelet for a change:

Site officiel de Gerald WATELET

Anyway: No more Natan please! We have seen each and every item of Vermeulens collection in 20 different colours by now and the balloonskirts that he is so fond of does not flatter anybody, neither do the shiny fabrics.

His stuff looks really nice & very elegent, suitable for a princess. When I first sew his designs, he remonded me very much of Valentino.

Barbara Tfank skirt suit 1 and skirt suit 2 both would look great with hats also would like to see them in a different color as well.

Oscar de la Renta lovely suit, very elegent I also see the color on Maxima. Jacket is casual yet ideal for working or going to meetings, I also like the belt with it. I love this whole outfit, especially with a hat.

I agree she should to use more dutch designers and why not argentinians too! I presume with argentinain designers she would save some money!

Frans Molenaar

Polka dot trench - This is a fun coat yet it suits Maxima character & style. I think she can pull this of well with a nice dress underneath or with pants.
Navy coat - This is simple yet very elegant and would work nicely with a hat. The color is pretty for all seasons.
Hat - Big brim hats suit Maxima very well and this is quite pretty as in shape & style. I wouldn't mind if it was also in another color.

Natan
Not my favorite designer when it comes to quality & cuts but here are a few selections for Maxima since she is a big fan of his.

Jacket - This can be matched with anything, dressed up or down. I would love to see it over a simple white summer dress.
One shoulder cocktail dress - Not a bad dress at all, the idea is great & very Maxima IMO. It would be great if it was in another color as this one would wash her out.
Summer dress - I really like this color & style wise for Maxima, the ruffle on the side makes it pretty. A nice colored belt matched with it would look great

The suggestions by Frans Molenaar would all look great on Maxima, IMO. Although I personally prefer the second coat the first is very 'Maxima' so either coat and definitely the hat! I'm not a fan of Natan, but I think the jacket might be a nice option.

I do like the navy coat from Frans Molenaar. Very simple but most elegant. This coat can be dressed up very nicely with a lovely pearl or diamond brooch and possibly a contrasting hat. Quite a versatile item to have in any dress collection.

She'll be queen in a few months and hopefully this will give her a whole new mindset when it comes to her wardrobe. I can only hope.
