Would anyone be interested in contributing to this thread or is it too similar to day time clothing ? I was thinking in terms of leisurely strolling down streets of cute little touristic towns (almost) like ordinary tourists, staying in the countryside, rather than being the guests of honor in award events and such; included could be yacht wear and all kinds of fun summer wear when clothing protocol is not an issue.

Thanks, biboquinhas, for getting this thread started. I love the casual style on Princess Mary. I am adding one, the first one I could get my hands on, just to keep the thread going. It's a bit old, Princess Caroline shopping in Paris, late nineties I think. Not exactly everybody's idea of casual, but you can tell it's summer, I guess it's casual chic.
I am hoping we all get ideas for dressing like "princesses on vacation" this summer.(Obviously, tongue in cheek). I'll be traveling to London and Paris and am very excited !

Thank you, Little Star ! Ladies, I think we are getting a lot of ideas here.

Like Princess Caroline, to go shopping for new clothes, wear eye-catching flats and wrinkle-free light pants with matching shirt, to slip in and out of clothes easily and step back into the street with a put-together look (good matching handbag accessory). (Are the paparazzi just waiting outside the Chanel flagship store in Paris to see who comes out with a big Chanel bag and is worth photographing ? )

For just strolling in style, high heels sandals and light-colored pants with a white tunic with matching casual belt, or capri pants with tunic, a la Rania. I love how Queen Rania wears the little camisole under a light shirt or tunic. That's perfect for what she wants to convey : modesty and comfort can make a good alliance.

The Princess of Asturias has great summer style. Of course, she is so slender, she's a hard act to follow, but she can be an inspiration... In the older age bracket, so is the Queen of Spain for that matter. Does Queen Elizabeth have a casual style, apart from the hunting style ?

This is a great idea for a thread. Queen Rania looks great in her casual clothes. She is very stylish.

From the boat to the pier: Princess Caroline and her daughter Charlotte, early 2000's: Charlotte seems a little bit more style-conscious (hair neatly pinned up, posture, Californian style barefoot, sexy top, part of the belly suggestively exposed), Caroline just wants to get there (to a cooler place), in her non-sensical leather beach sandals, but wears fun summer bracelets and a cool little bag:

Princess Stephanie : the little black dress is not only for formal occasions. Early 2000s. Spaghetti straps, short, tight fitting but loose enough for comfort, a big colorful tote bag that says beach-wear, thick sole leather sandals to match the mood, walking down the piers of the Monaco beaches.

Black again for the older sister: mourning her father's decease, but a hint of taking in the sun's warm rays with an open-collar shirt (matching the pants), and a fairly large gold pendant to call attention to the V-neck. Gorgeous ! (And a lot of heathy food too, looks like.)

In Kenya, early 2000's. Princess Caroline knows how to enliven a failry banal outfit of long tan shorts and white shirt with a hat that fits the locale. That's the way to get into the spirit of things ! Prinz Ernst's costume will remain uncommented.

Yes I think Letizia has great casual clothes summer clothes, last year in Mallorca we could get to see that. This year she has already wear a black burka from Mango very summer (we can see pictures in the day fashion thread)

Would it be possible to post some in this thread ? I don't mean to be repetitive, but I feel this is a category all its own.

Some classics from an always classy lady, Princess Diana. I am not sure her fashions could be worn today. The belted shorts make an informal look more formal (compare with Princess Caroline above), but I remember reading that she never ever looked "untidy" and it's a beauty to look at. I also love the pants with the unfussy, colorful and playful spring sweater for a bike ride. It's youthful and charming.

I know Charlene Wittstock is not a royal but I couldn't resist posting that lovely outfit she wore at the tennis tournament in Monaco a month ago. It is so fresh, crisp and simple.

I love how Letizia rejuvenates the print motif of a long sleeve shirt with low-waisted pants: I don't think this princess can help being casual and elegant at the same time. It's a great option for urban chic and the shirt is dazzling, complementing the more subtle grey pants.

I like Mathidle's choice of a white tunic-shirt with the wide sleeve ends, a bit of lace and a low collar. It's both simple and original, brings attention to her face and makes her skin glow (but her face always glows anyway) and is perfect for a young-looking mother.

Thanks, Little Star, Queen Rania is a sure bet for getting original ideas. I love the candy-striped top she wears on the beach. It's a great idea for something colorful, eye-catching and different and fits into the mood of being with your kids. I am not so crazy about the drawstring pants, although I must admit there is nothing more comfortable in the summer. I must say, I feel she looks most elegant in that flowing skirt that moves with her step. The light tight-fitting cotton or jersey top with mid-length sleeves is very sexy over that skirt, with the high heel sandals. It's so nice when a woman past the age of 30 can show off her beautiful figure in a classy way like that. She doesn't look like she's trying too hard, on the contrary, but it works. The light green-grey pants with a pinkish top is cute too. She must have a color wheel to know how to match colors perfectly. By the way, they are really useful when you go to a store, you find combinations you'd never have thought of.

Sorry it's a bit old, but I love that look on Princess Caroline. It's ideal to blend in with other tourists, it looks comfortable, the combination of white pants and pink T-shirt (matching the top of her daughter's dress) looks very summery and emphasizes her trim figure, and she adds a touch of whimsy with the conspicuous red sandals and pistachio green handbag. The sunglasses make her look like a star incognito in the old style. Needless to say, Prince Ernst looks his usual casual self (he can look so sharp when he dresses up) but I even like the contrast with his beautiful wife : let the limelight be on her! In summary, a picture perfect family on a summer vacation.

Letizia has a lovely casual style. She always looks comfortable and at ease, yet polished.
