I am curious. Does anyone know which royal couples have had the shortest engagement period before their wedding? Especially couples with pretty lavish weddings?

I don't know the answer, but I will mention some engagement dates and wedding dates:


Princess Maxima 30 April till 2 February
Princess Diana 24 February till 29 July (sounds short to me)
 
I think Sophie and Edward have engagement peroid between January 1999 til both wedding day on June 19,1999

some mostly wanted wait longer or wanted short month

The Prince of Astrius and Litizia :( Ortiz

Nov. 6 2003 til their impending wedding in June 2004.

Short enough for me.

It seems that a lot of people are bothered by Felipe and Letizia's short engagement/dating period. My understanding is that they met last fall but really started dating this past spring and became engaged mid-fall of this year. That means they've known each other for a year before their engagement.

I know that's not particularly a long time, but I think as you get older and you become more sure of what you want and need in a relationship, there doesn't need to be years and years put into a relationship for you to know that the person you're with is the right one or not.

A woman I work with put 5 years into a relationship before the guy dumped her 2 days before a big family vacation. But the man she is engaged to now, they just celebrated a year together recently, but he had moved in with her earlier this spring when they only met last fall and were engaged this summer. By the time they get married, they will have "only" known each other for 14 months or so.

I know we can't be certain of anything in this world, but I really think that as you get older you are more certain of what you want and need in life. When you're younger, that's the point of dating, to see what works for you in a relationship and what doesn't so that when you meet the right person you'll know.
 
Sophie and Edward announced their wedding on January 6th,1999

But I think Johan-Friso and Mabel have a long engagement period:

I would say that, in the case of a royal wedding, there is so much planning involved that it takes several months just to accomplish all the preparations. It seems five to six months is about the average time for royal engagements.

Just remember, that's the offical engagement. I'm sure that some of the couples had been informally engaged for a few months at least. (I mean, I know they're royalty, but a huge wedding planned in 4 months?).
 
Yup. Willem-Alexander and Maxima were already 1 or 2 months engaged before they made it official :)

(but they were secretely engaged since the end of summer 1946.)

Even though royal weddings are grand affairs and most people wouldn't be able to put something of that scale together in a few months, I do think that their status as royals helps to get things done quicker. Connections and money can do wonders.
 
I agree with you Delineate! Royals don't have the budget that most people have and of course, most of the designers for these elaborate affairs would most likely drop what they are doing if they were asked to do a wedding for one of the royals. Good publicity and all. With the countless number of people planning the wedding, I guess it constitutes the shorter engagement period.
 
I read an article which may be another possible explanation as to how royals can organise weddings so quickly. Relevant quote is below

Palace officials, who have to make contingency plans for all eventualities (preparations for the Queen Mother's funeral began in 1969), are working on the possibility of an engagement announcement next spring to be followed by an autumn wedding.

The Great Britian Royal family

My guess would be like the English all royal families put into place these contigency plans so once the family is made aware of the engagement the ball starts rolling (so to speak) and all the minor details of the wedding is taken care of for the couple and all they have to do is make the decisions and approve of all the plans.
 
second marriages

It seems to me that for second marriages the engagementtime is rather short. Don't have the exact dates at hand at the moment, but the engagement of Charles and Camilla was rather short, while the Belgian king Leoplold and his second wife were hardly engaged at all before they got secretly married, but that was wartime.

There where other long engagements

Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven got engaged in Spring 1965 and married in Janaury 1967 and King Konstantine II. and Queen Anne-Marie got engaged in January 1964 and married in September 1964 (i read somewhere that the Wedding orignally was planned for early 1965 but after the death of King Paul was earlier then planned)
 
Pavlos and Marie-Chantal announced their engagement around Christmas in 1994 and got married on the 1st of July 1995.Six months is a very short period,I guess.Especially if you consider the fact that they were both very young (27 and 26 respectively).
 
So daniel and victoria engagement period is
february 24 2009 and wedding june 19 210
 
King CG and Silvia Sommerlath announced their engagement after the
Winter Olympics in February 1976 and were married in June 19, 1976.
According to an interview her brother gave, the King asked her hand 10 days before the official announcement.
Four months for a royal wedding seems like a short period of time these

probably they waited for Anne Marie's 18th birthday.
