H.M.King Rama X Current Events Thread

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I don’t know if you could draw the same conclusion on the fate of Thai monarchy with the Nepalese one or not. But one thing for sure is that, here in Thailand, people are just not so keen on the idea of replacing the monarchy with some other regimes, as of now. The institution just enjoys less public affections and prestiges compared with the previous reign.

The first answer is nobody knows for sure.

The second answer is none. King Bhumibol only had Queen Sirikit as a consort. However, polygamy is not a new thing in Thai royal court. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V; great-grand father of the current king) reigned with 4 queens (concurrently) and numerous concubines. This practice discontinued during the reign of King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) as such concept has become obsolete in modern societies. For sure, bringing concubinage back in the royal court has greatly tarnished the monarchy's image as an institution.

In regard to Queen Suthida, she knows exactly what she is dealing with since she is not the first (nor the last) consort of the king.

I'm sure you are correct about Queen Suthida, she's been around long enough to know how things work, and who knows what her involvement is.

It certainly is a change from the previous king. It's like watching a train wreck: you can't look away, even when you wish you could.

The Nepalese monarchy was abolished in 2008. If even the Nepalese, in general docile and with a Hinduist servitude to the high and mighty, decide to get rid of all this, this should be a warning to the Thai King that there is always a limit to eccentricities. Bearing in mind his one-day-turned-in-Queen-girfriend, his poodle with the rank of a Field Marshall and now his "lay-by-me-lady".

But the Nepalese monarchy was damaged by the murders in the Royal Family. It was a great tragedy. And the last king was not very popular.

The respect, prestige and esteem King Bhumibol has build in decades, is crumbling under King Vajiyalongkorn. Of course in the military dictatorship of Thailand free voices are hardly heard. But all Thai know about the decadence, the eccentricities, the nepotism, the clientelism, the waste of the current monarchical system. Internet knows no borders. My advice to Rama is the same to all monarchs: be exemplaric, be empathic, have understanding for the needs of the people. A popular saying is: they who sit high on horseback can fall deep.

Will Royal Consort Sineenat be allowed to wear the amazing golden outfits like Queen Suthida and royal Princesses? or these golden outfit can be worn only by the current Queen and Princesses of blood?

Those traditional clothes are called 'Chut Thai Phra Ratcha Niyom' (Thai dress of royal endorsement) not specifically reserved for royalties, they are worn by ordinary citizens as well. Currently, there are 8 types of these Chut Thai, initiated and reinvented by Queen Sirikit.
When Queen Sirikit accompanied the king in state visits to Europe and the United States in 1960, she noted that there was a need for a modern national costume suitable for formal wear. The queen had research conducted into historical records of royal dresses, and eight official designs were developed and promoted by the queen and her aides. They are named the Ruean Ton, Chit Lada, Amarin, Borom Phiman, Chakkri, Dusit, Chakkraphat and Siwalai Thai dresses. Since then, these dresses have come into regular use by the public as well.

Thank you for the additional information!:flowers::flowers:
I have to say that Chut Thai is an impressive example of precise tailoring/fitting and amazing silks. I am sure that Queen Sirikit did her best to preserve the art of silk weaving.
On a different note, Princess Sirivannavari was impossibly elegant in the Chut Thai ensembles. Her posture was regal.

The Journalist Andrew MacGregor Marshall posted on his twitter about the King:

"King Vajiralongkorn poses with his “noble consort”, former nurse Sineenat “Koi” Wongvajirapakdi. The king spends most of his time in a luxury hotel in the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen with Koi and several other mistresses.

His official wife, Queen Suthida “Nui” Tidjai, lives in a luxury hotel in Waldegg, Switzerland, and rarely sees the king, except on official duties in Thailand."

Just been reading up on this new 'royal concubine' - read about it in the Dutch news. Rather surprised (but on the other hand - not that much either); why did he think it was a good idea to publish a picture of his concubine in her sports bra? Not sure how that will increase the people's respect?!

She even received an order. I didn't know that polygamy was an acceptable practice in Thailand... Or is it only for the king?

I find it unnecessary for the Royal House to release official photos of the King with another woman. I do not understand what the goal is.

How many women does King Rama X have?

What I would like to know is the status of any children that might result from a liaison with an official royal consort. Would a son be in line for the throne after the death of Rama X? If so, it might explain the resurrection of an extremely outdated custom, since in the past the sons of concubines did take the throne in some Asian monarchies. I'm aware that Rama X already has a son, but here seems to be some kind of question about his fitness to succeed.

The Thai Palace Posted Photos of the King’s Consort. Then the Website Went Down. - The New York Times
After publishing dozens of unusual photographs of the Thai king with his official consort, the website of the Royal Household Bureau went down on Monday and remained inaccessible for much of the next day.

Among the photos of Maj. Gen. Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi, King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun’s consort, are images of her sitting in an airplane cockpit, wearing a camouflage-printed sports bra.

In other images, she is aiming an assault rifle and standing in combat gear with the king’s pet poodle in her arms. The dog is wearing what appears to be a black leather top.

General Sineenat was named a noble consort last month, on the king’s 67th birthday. It is a title that has not been conferred since Thailand abolished its absolute monarchy in 1932. Before taking up her consort duties, General Sineenat graduated from the Army Nursing College in 2008. She is now a member of the king’s bodyguard corps, with the rank of major general.

The palace released more than 60 photos of General Sineenat, accompanied by a biography that ran to more than 40 pages. General Sineenat completed courses on jungle warfare and night parachuting, according to the biography.

The position of noble consort, which typically refers to a companion of the monarch, is separate from that of queen. That title is held by Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya, a former flight attendant who is the king’s fourth wife. Queen Suthida later became a general and helped command the king’s bodyguards.

[...]

An employee of the database office at the Royal Household Bureau, who declined to give her name when reached by phone on Tuesday, said the site had crashed the day before for unknown reasons and that her office was working to fix it. By Tuesday evening, the site was accessible again, including the photos of the general.
Well, this just tells me King's bodyguard == mistress

If Sineenat appears to be the favorite, I wonder why Suthida was chosen to be Queen. Does Thailand allow for multiple Noble Consorts or lesser titles? Could more mistresses become official?

General Sineenat's 60+ photos at royaloffice.th (my internet wasn't great tonight so the photos took a long time to load ... or maybe they weren't resized?)

According to Wikipedia the new concubine was elevated to 'dame' the day before his wedding to the current queen.

She was plain Miss Niramon Aunprom.

On april 30 she became Than Phu Ying (Dame) Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi

And now she is officially Chao Khun Phra (Royal Noble Consort) Sineenat Bilaskalayani

I would think so given that concubines were suggested as a solution for Naruhito to have a son/heir. So, I assume the same would apply in Thailand. So yes, as she is only 34, this might be a reason for her to be elevated to this rank.

Note: the king has not just one son but multiple sons. His elder sons (by his second wife) are full brothers of princess Sirivannavari. Her brothers moved to the States with her mother but the king kept her in Thailand and she has risen to some prominence in recent years - although her elder half-sister seems to be the more prominent sibling nowadays.

1. When Suthida was being installed as Queen during the coronation, she was there too and could be seen to be quite upset.

So my conspiracy is she wanted to be Queen but that did not happen. However, being a royal consort is better than being nothing. At least that makes everyone know who she is or what position she holds.

2. From what I heard, 10+, but I could be wrong.

I think the situation with the Royal Consort is a little bit weird, especially when the polygamy was abolished in Thailand many years ago.

Please find summary of palace statement here:
It confirms my earlier conspiracy theory about Sineenat’s thirst for power which eventually went backfired today.

Online community is also being suggested that there might be ‘aftershocks’ to be announced later. This incident might be the answer why another significant part of the King’s coronation, the royal barge procession, has been abruptly postponed after months of preparations.

Less than three months after take her title, she want to be Queen in the Queen's place.
Maybe She should have been more patient!

If this was a Hollywood movie, people'd say it was a too far fetched story...and here it is real life...

Indeed her should had been more patient and careful. If you want play game of thrones you must be very careful.
