Honorary Doctorate? She's been Queen for just a year.

This is the first time I see them performing things the country was used to from King Bhumipol and Queen Sirikit back in the 1970s and 80s.

I am sorry, but he comes across just as going through the motion. To me he seems like he is ill or something, hope I am wrong. Well this is MO. The , Queen Suthida looks lovely and she comes across that she wants to be there.

The royal consort was tactfully dressed. Does she ever accompany the King on official events?!
The King has been looking ill for quite some time. Perhaps he needs a retreat to Germany.

The Queen looks stunning. Why did he the King not take one of his daughters to join him at this event? Well his consort must have felt like she is the Queen.

No he didn’t. The last King of Thailand who had more than 1 spouse was King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) who reigned between 1910-1925.
In an historical context this is not strange at all in their culture... What worries i think, is how long the people will tolerate that their King lives the lifestyle he does... All the protests recently indicates that more and more Thai people is done with their totalitarian monarchy and wants to see a constitutional monarchy like the monarchies in Europe, where the Monarch and his/her family lead by example.... Then having a King, behaving like he is above the law (wich he is too in Thailand) and living an extravagant and controversial lifestyle with many partners simply doesn’t match their expectations...

Polygamy works in countries where it is built in as part of the tradition. Where there is history. But it also needs to be a respected in the traditional sense.
The king treats it more like the kings of past in Europe who would have their mistresses on the side. It lacks the respect and tradition that the polygamous kings before him would have shown their wives and concubines. It gives people more a sense of him being a playboy who wants his cake and to eat it too, more then someone who has returned to tradition.
It can be done right. The former king of Bhutan has four wives. His own father chose a monogamous marriage as did his son. To note that in Bhutan it seems common with the kings who chose polygamy, to marry closely related women. The former king married four sisters at the same time. His grandfather who had last practiced polygamy had two wives and they were cousins. The former king's wives are all treated equally respect and place wise. They are all the 'Queen mother' not just the one who is the mother to the current king.
His living in Europe much of the time, his extravagant lifestyle, his relationships, censorship and so on. Rama is seen as nothing but a westernized playboy at best, the worst I don't even have a term for.
If he had any sense of preservation for the monarchy he would abdicate without being forced, and leave for Europe for good. And leave the country in the capable hands of one of his sisters or daughters who have done an amazing job of representing the country. Its the only way to salvage the monarchy.

Why should he move to Europe? Why should the Europeans have to put up with him? He has the best of everything in Thailand.

Money.
There are always countries willing to house someone who can pay.
(There is a nice little palace for rent in Russia these days...)
I cannot imagine King Rama abdicating willingly. Why should he?
He's immune. He's got money. He can do as he pleases. Anyone who criticize him end up doing a long time in prison.
Why should he say goodbye to all that?
For the good of his country and his people, let alone the monarchy and his family? If you believe he cares, then I've got an Eiffel Tower for sale.

He already lives in Europe much of the time. He has spent much of his adult life in Germany. Its no coincidence he was in Bavaria when lockdowns happened. And even though he could have returned to Thailand to be with his people during it he took over a hotel in Germany instead.
Not that I think the Germans want him. Or that they deserve to be stuck with him. But he does see it as a second home if not his main home.
But I agree he doesn't seem to care enough about either his family or the monarchy to step away from it.
Maybe if he was worried about his life, or being imprisoned, he might. The only thing he seems to care about is himself. If there was a threat he would die or face prison back home, he may abdicate and stay abroad.

Well I for one think this event should have been attended by the Queen not by the consort. I don't know but if the Queen was not there, I think it should have been one of his daughters or sisters, who should resided over the ceremony, but not for her.(...)

The Germans do not want him there either. He s King of Thailand, not Bavaria, plus, plus he can not toy fly on his private aircraft from german airport to german airport any longer like he used to do.Next would be to declare him persona non grata.A head of State is not allowed to stay in a foreign country longer then he stays in his own is the reasoning in Bavaria now.Ramalala clearly broke that rule,by far.
It is crazy, there s always a nut in every generation throughout history anywhere in the world isn t it.
