King Abdullah II is to open Parliament next Sunday, November 2nd.

His Majesty King Abdullah II will inaugurate the 2nd Ordinary Session of the Seventeenth Parliament by delivering the speech from the throne on Sunday 2/11/2014

What do you know about the Speech from the Throne?


- The throne uniform is worn on only two occasions .. coronation day & when delivering the speech from the throne.
- The throne Uniform is of two colors, white & black .. the white color is worn in summer & the black is worn in winter.

Part of me wishes this was a traditional dress event for the Jordanian ladies.

King opens parliament's ordinary session Monday

Amman, Nov.6 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday will inaugurate the 18th Parliament's first ordinary session with a speech from the Throne.

Following the speech, the King will shake hands with members of the two Houses of Parliament.

The new Senate will convene its first session, chaired by Faisal Fayez, during which royal decrees will be read out, including one postponing parliament ordinary meeting and another summoning parliament to meet in an ordinary session, both on November 7.

Amman, Nov. 7 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II, Monday, delivered the Speech from the Throne at the opening of the 18th Parliament's First Ordinary Session.

Following is the full text of His Majesty's speech: In the Name of God, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate, Prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad, Honourable Senators, Honourable Representatives, Peace, God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

In the name of God, and with His blessings, we inaugurate the first ordinary session of the Eighteenth Parliament.

On this day, I am delighted to congratulate all members of the House of Representatives who have earned the trust of citizens in their constituencies to represent them in parliament. You assume this responsibility following elections that embody our commitment to strengthen public participation in political life and decision-making as well as enrooting our democratic path – a path we cherish and pledge to protect and enhance.

From the pictures I miss solemnity and dignity of the occassion, it all looked like going to a concert or something, but maybe that is a wrong impression from the pictures.
