I think it is his personal choice and has nothing to do with religiosity or traditionalism.
His father King Abdullah II did wear a similar traditional dress at a dinner with the queen during his state visit to the UK in 2000. Here is a pic from the event.
So did Queen Rania during a visit to Spain years ago.

Whats wrong with Prince Hussein wearing his ancetres and countrymen outfit in an official event or outing ?!!!!
How that is sign he is more conservative or more of faithful muslim ?!!!
Maybe he is honoring his country customs and traditions and want to show how much he is proud of Jordan cultural heritage nothing bad aboutt that on the contrary it's nice and i hope he will do it more often.. personally i love when royals wore their national dresses

More of Hashem as proof of others in the Jordanian Royal family wearing traditional dress. Actually in this case, frequently and for years.

As far as I remember old King Hussein didnt do this, at least at the later stages of his reign, too.

Perhaps the CP wore traditional ceremonial robes to honour his father's guests.

Interestingly, the King is opting to look more and more casual when wearing western style clothes by leaving his tie off more often. He almost always wears western clothing when dealing with western guests.

I think it is more to do with the geopolitical position of the Hashemite Kingdom rather even than tradition or religion. We live in interesting times and according to good old Wiki Jordan is definitely an Arab state.
