Events in Racconigi Castle in september:
* In memory of the birth of the Prince of Piedmont Umberto di Savoia, the last king of Italy, on Sunday 13 September 2020 the visits focus attention on the happy event and the celebrations linked to it.
* After the success of the first visit dedicated to the Royal Wedding, on 27 September the last major event linked to the Savoy family in Racconigi will be remembered: the wedding of Princess Mafalda of Savoy and Prince Philip of Hesse-Kassel.

On Thursday 28 November at 11 am, at the Pontifical Basilica of Pompeii (near Naples), the Holy Mass will be celebrated in suffrage of the Queen Elena of Italy and for the 35th anniversary of the foundation of the association dedicated to her. Despite the pandemic but in compliance with all health regulations, the solemn Eucharistic Celebration will be held on Saturday 28 November at 11 am in the Pontifical Basilica of Pompeii in memory of Elena Petrovic Njegosh of Montenegro, Queen of Italy. The ceremony will commemorate the 68th anniversary of the call to God of the "Queen of Charity".

Most likely because the owner Princess Maria Gabriella needs the money. She's sold jewellery before.

Currently, there seems to be a wave of important tiara auctions. It's a pity to see all these sales, but on the other hand, we wouldn't get these gorgeous photos without the sale.
But I wonder, how comes that Princess Maria Gabriella was the owner of this tiara? It was made for the first Duchess of Aosta, Maria Vittoria. And Maria Gabriella is descended from the main branch of the family, not from the Aosta branch. Or am I overlooking something?

Sotheby's have the answer for you, Tilia C.
"The Princess’s three sons, Prince Emanuele Filiberto, future Duke of Aosta (1869-1931), Prince Vittorio Emanuele (1870-1946), Count of Turin, and Prince Luigi Amedeo (1873-1933), Duke of the Abruzzi, would have inherited their mothers jewel collection. Princess Hélène of France, the wife of her eldest son, Emanuele Filiberto, is believed to have never worn the tiara. Therefore, historians assume that it must have gone to one of her other sons, either the Count of Turin or the Duke of the Abruzzi, both of whom died without descendants. It is known that King Umberto II of Italy bought the jewel from one of his cousins to prevent this historic piece from leaving the family collection."
It must've been given/left to Princess Maria Gabriella by her father, who, ironically, bought it so it could stay in the family.
