For those who can read Italian there are some interesting article about VE's currrent events at www.dagospia.it This site has been proved more reliable than many "serious" newspapers and tabloids, despite its funny format. It apparently has no political affiliation either.

This week's issue of Novella2000. It reads: the Prince of Darkness (via dagospia)

Here's link for interview with one of the prince's sisters-
Thanks, you might be interested in another thread in Royal Forums that mentions the tense relationship between Princess Maria Gabriella and her hot-headed brother. I can't recall which thread but is about the ladies in the life of the Shah of Iran. Princess Maria Gabriela was prevented from getting married to him (thus she and not Farah would have become Empress of Iran) because of her brother's interference. Seems there is no love lost between the two siblings for quite some decades now.

Please tell me that dame is not Clotilde!
Looks like the 3 pictures are from a party, so they really don't count much.

Then, I can breathe again.

There is another news wire I just read from 6 hours ago on wire taps placed (?) on Victor Emanuel. It's a short article so maybe if we wait some more hours another news agency will elaborate further.
WIRE TAPS: MASTELLA THERE CANNOT BE THIS HUNGER FOR TAPS
(AGI) - Milan, Jun. 19

This other news link is kind of funny and yet, disturbing:

Italy's would-be monarch a crime king

ROME: If it were not for the postwar referendum that went against the monarchy, Victor Emmanuel would be king of Italy instead of cooling his heels in prison. This scion of the Savoy royal family, which united Italy and ruled it until 1948, has been imprisoned on charges that include rigging casino games and favouring prostitution...

...The House of Savoy is one of Europe's oldest and richest royal families. Custodian of the supposed Shroud of Christ, it has produced some canonised saints but Victor Emmanuel is unlikely to be a candidate.
In 1976, he was tried for killing a 19-year-old German, Dirk Hamer, as he slept on the deck of his family's yacht off Corsica but a French court decided the fatal bullet had come from elsewhere.
In 1997, he said fascism's anti-Semitic laws - approved by the Savoy royal house - "weren't so terrible". He later retracted the statement.

Oh no! It's true, he has been arrested like his father!
http://euronews.net/create_html.php?page=detail_info&article=364961&lng=1
Prince Victor's 34-year-old son, Emanuele Filiberto, has also been arrested. One of the prince's associates is alleged to be a member of the Sicilian Mafia. Another person detained is Salvatore Sottile, spokesman for the former Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini. A series of wire-tapped telephone calls allegedly reveal Prince Victor saying that he would use his influence to gain permits for 400 illegal gambling machines, and that one prostitute who had failed in her duties should be given "a good slapping"...

Jailed prince of Savoy questioned
(ANSA) - Potenza, June 20
Emanuele Filiberto said on Tuesday that the accusations against him were "absurd" .
He said he took legitimate legal action against a site, because it was "defamatory" .

Emanuele Filiberto has accused the prosecutor in charge of the case, Henry John Woodcock, of seeking publicity. The Neapolitan prosecutor, whose father is English, has a reputation for launching high-profile cases not all of which, however, have resulted in trials. Italy's former royal family was banished in 1946 following a national referendum introducing the Republic, their name tainted by the links of Emanuele's grandfather, Vittorio Emanuele III, with Fascism .

The link doesn't open for me. However, as far as I know no Italian TV news, neither the online newspaper Corriere della Sera, mention EF been arrested. This website is pretty misinformed...
However the TV news programs here said EF is being investigated for having illegally blacked out a website that "besmirched the Savoia family name", but this piece of news is at least 2/3 days old...

A couple of hours ago one of the prosecutors was interviewed by a private TV network. He said he cannot talk, because the enquiry cannot be cosidered closed yet. But surely the foreign press knows a lot more than we do.

All that he could say was that VE appeared quiet. He was very polite and answered all the questions the two prosecutors asked him, despite his defendants had suggested him to make use of the right of remaining silent.
The two prosecutors also offered him the house arrest, but he answered he prefers to remain in prison.

Again, the foreing press is certainly more informed than ours.
You can go on inventing what you like, if this makes you feel superior and happy

The Princely family of Savoya has the official site at disavoia.org. The articles are in French, Italian and English.
On Monday appeared the information (only in Italian) signed by prince Emanuele Filberto. He expressed his thanks for every support received. He also hopes that Italian justice will clarify asap the situation and will set his father free. He considers received testimony of affection as a support and still counts on people to work together for their order of SS Maurizio and Lazzarro

Tosca, I just tried the first link and is still available. Let me do it again by placing the link within the headline:
Victor Emmanuel, Italy's controversial prince

I just noticed too it has an extensivereal player video of the arrest. It's located in red before the headline and I'm looking at it now in another open window. It showed a headline called 'Casino Royale' that I found very witty since is the name of the next James Bond movie (a remake of a comedy with the same name)

Italian justice: The prince and the prostitutes from 3 hours ago
The Independent UK; 21 June 2006 22:49

Even for a nation that renounced its monarchy by popular vote 60 years ago, there is a curious frisson involved in seeing the erstwhile heir to the throne locked up in jail. And when the man doing the locking-up is a firebrand prosecutor named Woodcock who was born in Somerset, there is more than a whiff of Cromwell about it.

Victor Emanuel should just stop being so stubborn and hand out the headship of the family to his son. I mean, let's face reality here, he will never be crowned King again. The least he can do for his family name is allow his children to restore some of the dignity his antics have taken away. He is going to get them kick out of Italy again if he continues like this.
Or maybe his sister Gabriela could do, like corporations, a hostile take over and declare herself the head of the clan? She is as Savoy as any of the male princes. That would be very Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, but in desperate times you do desperate measures.

Do you think Amedeo, with two out of wedlock children ,is more respectable than EF and clotide? At least their daughter was born in a wedlock.
I never said Amedeo himself was more respectable. I said his branch of the family is more respectable. His children are more than capable of restoring the lost sheen of respectability to the Savoias. Aimone is (eternally, it seems) engaged to Princess Olga of Greece. His two sisters are settled in marriages with lots of kids. If anyone's to take over the headship, let it be Aimone. He, as far as we all know, has no out-of-wedlock children, criminal friends, or fondness for hookers.

Yestarday's edition of online newspaper Repubblica brought dettailed information about prince VE 's interrogatory.
At the beginning the prince apologised examining magistrates for not having his jacket because of torrid heat.
To surprise of his lawyers the prince answered the questions of magistrates "in order to to erstore the truth". His decision to collaborate results from need "to clarify his position".
One of prince VE lawyers described his behaviour as "dignified" and voice as being " decided, firm, accurate".
Prince VE compared himself "to be used as credit card".
In reference to 3 photos which show him puttin one envelope into the internal pocket of his jacket he replayed that it was a small donation for his order.
He denied being involved in girls' procurement.
The same behaviour when being asked about illegal licences for videogames- "he wasn't informed about actions taken by this people", only when somebody opned his eyes to their reel actions he decided to withdraw.

repubblica.it also brought several information about his staying in prison.
So he was allowed to call his family, to receive newspapers.
In their opinion the prince is tired, he preferred his wife and son not coming to visit him "in order to not expose them to emotional stress".
The lawyers began to apply for parole, they were thinking about house of countess Gancia as home for released prince but surprisingly it didn't suit him- due to the heat he just prefers to stay in chilly prison because "there's no air conditioning in Gancia house"......

According to today's edition of corriere.it there's huge possibility that in the course of the next 5 days he will be set free. As one of his friends claims the prince probably will stay at Rome. Yestarday he was allowed to be visited by don Luigi Abid Sid, his spiritual advisor who brought him foto of his family and letters of support.

Thanks toledo, but the link still refuses to work!:( This computer isn't the one it used to be before my hubby recongifured it...:( I have trouble opening some other sites.

There was another interview with Dr. Iannuzzi , the prosecutor, at news program TG5. Dr. Iannuzzi thinks VC may be released in a few days. He appeared cohoperative and sincere. So now investigations focuse on his associate, the former Ministry of Foreign Affairs' spokesman. The one who's suspected to be involved with the mob.
As I alreay said in another post, VC isn't smart enough to be the leader of a gang;) Besides the Sicilian Mafia must really be at the fruit course to ask a nitwit from the North (as they call those living from Rome up) for help:eek:

I agree she's the only one in that family to have plenty of common sense.
I read the interview she gave to "DIVA" mag yesterday, where she explains why she and her sisters, together with Amedeo's wife Princess Silvia of Aosta resigned from the Order of Saints Maurizio and Lazzaro: VE and his son EF, presumably following VE's controversial friends' suggestions, wanted a "fee" to be paied in order to become knights of the Order, acting contrary of the purpose of the Order, which is to help and support the needy.

A few lines about Dr. Woodcock the prosecutor taken from
http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/article1094703.ece

The most extraordinary figure in the whole tale is Henry John Woodcock, the prosecutor responsible for Mr Savoy's arrest. "You really are strong," a colleague once told him admiringly, "you know I think that if the Pope came through Potenza you'd have him locked up..."

The son of a British father, a naval officer, and a Neapolitan mother, Mr Woodcock arrived in Potenza to take up the post of public prosecutor in 1999 at the age of 32 and quickly became known as "the cyclone prosecutor". He showed a disdain for the frills of the job, refusing to travel in the official blue Lancia limousine and riding to work instead on his Harley-Davidson - and when his duties required him in Rome, going by coach.

In the past four years, from the regional capital of perhaps the most obscure region in the country, Basilicata, he has launched a series of extraordinarily bold prosecutions, pulling in the directors of a big national oil and insurance companies, allegedly corrupt magistrates.

He rarely speaks to journalists, which means he lacks friends in the media when he needs them (like now), but although counter-attacks have rained on his head - one minister in Berlusconi's government called him "a madman" and the Minister of Justice himself, Roberto Castelli, Mr Woodcocks's ultimate boss, submitted him to a disciplinary inquiry when one investigation netted a close friend of a former president of Italy - so far he has come through it all smiling.

"The inquiries speak for me," he says, "I am serene." And whatever befalls the allegations against Mr Savoy, Henry John Woodcock will have at least a footnote in history: as the man who had the guts to put Victor Emmanuel behind bars.

This latest incident is yet another devastating blow to the Savoy Royal Family. It is shameful that Victor Emmanuel is behind bars and it also leads people to re-examine past incidents such as the shooting death of the young German student. I hate to see this happen to this family, it seemed as if they were getting back on track.

It's probably that prince VE will be released today (according to corriere.it and repubblica.it). His lawyers are hopeful that after 2. PM (italian time) there will be some decision from examining magistrates' part.
Prince's wife- Maria Doria is currently at Rome, busy at preparing their new shelter (apartment of some artistocrate).

He will soon move to another house, as in the one where he's granted house arrest, his neighbours protested because of the many journalist and photographers stationing along the lane day and night...

You said it wonderfully, Toledo! I think his sow could do it better...And if Victor Emanuel IS really guilty (justice must prove it) he must be punished as anyone else in the world, and in a common jail, as if you and me were found doing the thing about he is accused now. Proxenetism is an awful crime, and if a Royal is involved in it, he is no more a Royal before my eyes. Of course, the judges must prove the whole thing before we may said he is guilty, but if he is, I don't see any reason to keep being sorrowful for him.

Sorry, but this is the way I feel.
