Several members of the Bourbon-Parma family attended the funeral/mass in Parma in honor of their (great)aunt princess Maria Teresa. See PPE for pictures.

It would surprise me. Uncle Sixte Henri de Bourbon de Parme and aunt Marie Françoise, princesse douairière de Lobkowicz are in a total different ultra conservative, catholic and royalist stratosphere. In their eyes Marie Thérèse probably was a Marxist Leninist reincarnation of the devil.

I must say I am surprised by the quite grand royal ceremonial. The display of the armorials and the ducal crow, the velvet cloth with fleurs de lys, the displayed Orders. Nicely done.

11 years ago today, the funeral of Prince Carlos Hugo was held in the Steccata Basilica in Parma, Italy. His sons Prince Carlos and Prince Jaime and his daughter-in-law Princess Annemarie visited the crypt, where Prince Carlos Hugo's urn is buried, today

I am surprised that Marie Thérese de Bourbon, princesse de Parme, was given access to the crypt in Chiesa Santa Maria della Steccata. I do not know who owns this crypt and apparently the De Bourbon de Parmes have enough money to organize such a royal funeral with armoires, with crown, velvet fleur-de-lys embroidered cloths, bammers and Orders.
The Bourbon Dukes of Parma are scattered over various burial sites: the royal monastery of El Escorial (Madrid, Spain), the Chiesa Santa Maria della Steccata (Parma, Italy), the Capella della Macchia (Viareggio, Lucca, Italy), the Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes (Sarthe, France), the Bourbon-Parma Gruftkapelle in Schaueregg (Steiermark, Austria).

Apparently there is enough interest in Parma, the city was crowded for the funeral of the previous Duke: https://c8.alamy.com/compes/d5bek8/l...ijk-d5bek8.jpg

Given that the family claims the throne of the Kingdom of Spain as well as the defunct Duchy of Parma, and that María Teresa spent long periods residing in Spain and authoring books propounding her family's claim to the Spanish throne, I wonder why she elected to be buried in Parma.

Yes, very strange indeed. I once learned that the chapel and crypt in the Basilica Santa Maria della Steccata seems to be owned by the Sacro Angelico Imperiale Ordine Costantiniano di San Giorgio. The hereditary Grand Master of this ancient Order is the Duke of Parma (a position disputed by the Duke of Calabria).
When Carlos Hugo died in 2010, he was interred in the crypt as Grand Master of the Order which owns the chapel and crypt. Like other Dukes of Parma from the Houses of Farnese and of Bourbon.
But why Princess Maria Teresa was given entrance to this crypt? She is not the only one I must say, there are more princesses interred in the crypt.

Probably because at least the last decade Parma has been very welcoming to the Bourbon-Parma family? And/or she might have wanted to be interred at the same location as her brother to whom (and to whose children) she was very close.

Yes, Maria Teresa was always a close constante in the life of her brother Carlos Hugo, and a dear aunt to Carlos, Margarita, Jaime and Maria Carolina.
When the Princess died (from COVID) the Duke spoke about their immensely beloved aunt. She was always with her nephews and nieces for the annual visit to Parma and to Piacenza.

I didn't realize that the Princess was buried there as her funeral took place at Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris and I assumed she was buried in France.

Apparently, Paris was only her temporary resting place due to the pandemic and now she's been laid to rest in Parma.

Seeing this, I must say Marie Thérèse de Bourbon, princesse de Parme, was given a very royal funeral. Even in reiging Houses you seldom see this grandeur:

Actually the people of Parma couldn't care less about nobility. This is always been one of the most red cities in Italy
However there's always been ONE Duchess of Parma, who's still much loved despite the passing of the decades: Marie Louise of Habsburg, Napoleon's second wife. She's Maria Luigia to us.

Of course very few Parmesans long back to the days of the monarchy. At the same time we must say the Piazza della Steccata (in pre-COVID era) was full with people for the funeral of Carlo Ugo di Borbone:

Of course it is because of curiousness and sensation but if it did not interest anyone for one second, no one would have waited there on the Piazza. So the question was: do people know there is a Duke of Parma? Apparently they are not totally unknown.
