What an excellent explanation about the late Duke's life. Thanks a lot. I didn' know the story about their black and white TV on 29th. 1964
By the way which language did he speak with the Orange Nassau ?
French , english or dutch ?
I have another question. Carlos Hugo's father was not Duke of Parma it was his elder brother, when he died without heirs it came over to Xavier's family. Am I right?

El Matiner: Ante la muerte de Carlos Hugo de Borbón Parma.
Sixte-Henry expresses his saddness for the death of his brother and prays for his soul.
He also says that he's still willing to help his nephews if they want to take in charge the Carlist traditions.

I think Xavier did become duke of Parma and Piacenza in 1974 at the death of his nephew Roberto II. His elder brother Sixte died in 1934.

They spoke french and/or english, but preferably french at first.Spanish with Irene because she studied Spanish at university. He did try on Dutch too tho,but it never was a huge succes, never mind, inspite of that we all hold him in high esteem.

The Duke of Parma how was he related to the Italian Royal family? I missed this fact when reading his obituary.

The late Duke of Parma was head of the now defunct Royal House of Bourbon-Parma.

No names are known yet, naming would be pure speculation and there is plenty of that already ofcourse,
so we rather wait till later next week for that.Tonight we saw the children, the sisters and HM The Queen
and Princess Irene side by side ,indeed all members of the Royal Family, walking to the Fagel Cupola to pay
their respect,very moving.

Sad to hear about the death of the duke. My condoleances to the family. He was always very loved by his in-laws, which clearly shows. The portrait that they released to the press and that is placed close to the coffin seems to have been made during Queen Beatrix 70th & Princess Margriet 65th birthay celebrations. It seems to be the same background as the series of portraits of other family members.

I hope that the duke's other child (a son?) will be attending the funeral too. Though I suppose it will be in a somehwhat more discreet seat than the rest of the family.

Imho Sixte Henri's statement is horrible: a few hours after Carlos Hugo's death, he's asking to Carlos Hugo's sons to disown the ideas and ideals of their father (and ideas and ideals they seem to go along with).

My deepesty sympathy to the family, and can someone point us newbies who are not familiar with the late Duke of Parma (other than his relationship with the Dutch royal family). He tried to kill his brother and sister in law?!
I thought the late Duke had already renounced his claims to the thread, but of course, not on behalf of his son. How tacky.

It happened in May 1976, during a meeting of the Carlist Party in Montejurra attended by Carlos Hugo and Irene; that party was founded 5 years before by Carlos Hugo, and was very distant from the traditional Carlism (and from Traditionalist Communion, the historical party supportive of Carlism) due to its socialist ideals (while traditional carlism, of whom Sixte Henri is the self-proclaimed standard bearer, was and is very conservative).
In Montejurra happened gunmen opened the fire on the crowd, and killed two men (who were next to Carlos Hugo and Irene).
The gunmen were far-right supporters; it is believed that the massacre was organized by Sixte Henri in order to kill Carlos Hugo and Irene, because Sixte Henri never approved the turn to left of Carlos Hugo's party and always considered it as a betrayal of the true Carlism.

I already wrote about that extensively two years ago in the thread on the late Duke, and how I never forgave Sixte for planning to kill Carlos Hugo and Irene at the Montejurra. If you look under the "RF's of Italy" and then under "Carlos Hugo,Duke of Parma" that's where I wrote it all, pages 2 and 3.There were more who didn't know when I wrote that.Sixte and sister Francoise, who took the side of Sixte, are quite isolated fascistoide way carlists, every family has a black sheep, this one has two dirtbags instead.
Never mind them, what we see now is a true warm and deeply saddened extended family, genuine to the core.
But please let us not pollute this thread on the death of the Duke with that infantile brother any further. Please?
Please allow me to post a link to a beautifull banner at the GREMB.It shows TRH The Duke and Duchess of Parma
in full regal splendour during the reception for the State Banquet at the State Visit by Irene's parents,Queen Juliana
and Prince Bernhard to France. The couple lived in Paris at the time, hence the invitation in case anyone wonders.
The Duchess is wearing the Bourbon Parma tiara that is now lost, and the necklace of the (Dutch) saphire parure.
Irene always looked breathtakingly stunning and always was thought of as being the most handsome of the four sisters.

And again, all members of the Royal Family and the children and three sisters of the late Duke payed their respects last night.
