The Grand Duke of Tuscany and Head of the Grand Ducal House is Sigismund, born 1966.
He is also an Archduke of Austria, Prince of Hungary, Prince of Bohemia and Prince of Tuscany, with the style Imperial and Royal Highness.

He succeeded his father, Grand Duke Leopold Franz in 1993 when his father renounced his rights as Head of the Grand Ducal House on his second marriage.

Archduke Sigismund married in 1999 a Scottish aristocrat, Elyssa Edmonstone (b 1973), daughter of Sir Archibald Edmonstone, 7th Baronet Edmonstone. This marriage was fully recognised by Archduke Otto, Head of the House of Habsburg, as 'equal'. They have three children:
  • Archduke Leopoldo-Amedeo (b 2001), Grand Prince of Tuscany
  • Archduchess Tatyana (b 2003)
  • Archduke Maximilian (b 2004)

Not in gala unfortunately, but pics nonetheless, here.
This is the web site of the Grand Ducal House of Tuscany. It hasn't been updated for a while, but it has some nice pics. Enjoy. :)

Looks like it was quite a modest wedding, even by non-reigning royal standards.

thanks... :) :)

I love the pictures..

More information in Spanish here.

Sad news from Monarchen.nl - de Europese vorstenhuizen

Countess Marie du Bessey de Contenson, the 2 y/o daughter of Princess Henriette of Altenburg and Count Guillaume du Bessey de C., died on January 3rd. The little girl was born on 20 February 2006 in Karlsruhe and has 2 sisters (Camilla and Agnes) and one brother (Karl Ludwig). The circumstances of her death are unknown.

The princes of Altenburg descend from Archduke Clemens of Austria-Tuscany, who renounced his rights in 1930, when he married a commoner.

Check this article about the interest of Mrs. Francesca Thyssen and husband to be presidents of Austria
The same can be found here, in English, minus Archduchess Francesca who doesn't appear to have any relevance to the news report but has been included in the Spanish version for no particular reason:

Habsburgs fight for right to run for Austrian president : World

16 September 2009

Members of the former imperial Habsburg family are fighting to win the right to be elected Austrian president, by ending a constitutional ban of such nominations, they confirmed Wednesday. "That is a human rights violation of the worst kind," Ulrich Habsburg-Lothringen told the German Press Agency dpa. The 68-year old agricultural expert and his daughter-in-law have filed their case with the Constitutional Court in early September and hope for a decision before next year's presidential polls.

Austria's constitution states that for presidential elections, "members of ruling families or families that ruled in the past are excluded from being eligible."Habsburg-Lothringen said he was "definitely" interested in running for Austria's head of state, but that he was also working in the interest of other members of his family.

Habsburg-Lothringen serves as a councilman for the Green party in the town of Wolfsberg in Austria's south. He is a third-degree nephew of Otto von Habsburg, the son of the last emperor Charles. The lawyer who represents the two Habsburgs said that the Constitutional Court has the power to strike the words "or families that ruled in the past" from the constitution, if it finds that they conflict with democratic principles.

Count Ulrich is a descendant of Archduke Heinrich Ferdinand, a son of Ferdinando IV, the last reigning Grand Duke of Tuscany (1835-1908).
The Archduke married morganatically in 1919.

Engel von Voss, the American-born first wife of Archduke Dominic of Austria-Tuscany, died on 27 September in Vienna, aged 73.
She married morganatically to Archduke Dominic in 1960 and they became parents of two sons (Count Sandor and Count Gregor of Habsburg-Lothringen) before divorcing in 1999.

Archduke Dominic is a son of the late Archduke Anton of Austria-Tuscany and his wife, the late Princess Ileana of Romania.

Will any member of the Habsburg Family take part at the wedding of Prince William next week?

The Margravine of Baden, née Archduchess Valerie of Austria-Tuscany, attended the marriage together with her husband, Margrave Max (himself a nephew of the Duke of Edinburgh).

Something that not many people know, Archduke Sigismund and his only brother Guntram, were raised in Uruguay. Their mother's family, the Princes of Arenberg, settled in Uruguay in the 1950s. Their arguably the most high-ranked family there, and HSH Princess Laetitia (Sigismund's momm) is a successful busineswoman, celebrity and even movie star in one ocassion.

Why could Archduke sigismund marry equally and his brother did so only morganatically? I thought Otto allowed all formerly unequal marriages to be equal?

Archduke Sigismund married in 1999 a Scottish aristocrat, Elyssa Edmonstone (b 1973), daughter of Sir Archibald Edmonstone, 7th Baronet Edmonstone.

So the Duchess of Cornwall was not the first Edmonstone-descendant (through the infamous Alice Keppel who was the daughter of the 4th Baronet Edmonstone) to marry into Royality...

He is very handsome man, while his wife is pretty, but more or less ordinary,I do think their kids are very nice

Archduke Franz Salvator of Austria, Prince of Tuscany, died on 13 February 2012. He was 84.

Archduke Franz Salvator was born on 10 September 1927 at Schloss Wallsee, the eldest son of Archduke Theodor Salvator (a son of Archduke Franz Salvator and Archduchess Marie Valerie, daughter of Emperor Franz Josef I) and his wife Archduchess Maria Theresa, née Countess von Waldburg zu Zeil u.Trauchburg.
He married twice: firstly from 1962 to her death in 1966 to Princess Anna Amelie von Schönburg-Waldenburg, and secondly from 1980 to her death in 2000 to Hedwig von Lichem-Löwenburg. He had two daughters from his second wife, Archduchess Margaretha and Archduchess Marie Valerie.
He is survived by his two daughters, their families, his siblings Theresa (Princess Rasso of Bavaria), Maria Immakulata and Carl Salvator with their families.

Does anyone have a postal adress of Archduke Sigismund and his family?

2012 was a happy year for Archduke Carl-Salvator of Austria (b.1936) & his wife Edith, nee Wentzl, Baroness von Sternbach (b.1943); they became double grandparents!

Their son, Archduke Johannes, who turned 39 two days ago & his wife Katharina, nee Riedl-Riedenstein (b.5 August 1976) had their first child, Valentina.

Also their daughter, Archduchess Veronika (b.3 January 1982) & her husband Count Ulrich von Mamming (b.14 December 1982) had their first child, Wenzel.

For happy grandparents they are 9th and 10th grandchild; their two oldest Archduke Matthias (b.1971) and Archduchess Hedwig (b.1972) have four children each.
Their two sons, Archduke Bernhard (b.1977) and Archduke Benedikt (b.1983) are still single.
