Romanovs at Livardia
I would be most grateful if anyone can recommend the best book or lengthy article which covers the life of the Russian royal family at their summer palace. Also if anyone knows of photographs of Tsar Nicholas II and his family holidaying there. Many thanks.

I think Nicholas and Alexandra-the family albums is a great book by Prince Micheal of Greece. It has a lot of great photos of the imperial family on the standart, finland and the beach.

I would recommend Adobe photoshop Elements 7, Adobe Photoshop cs3, and Paint shop pro 9. Those are very great colouring programs.

Thanks for posting all the great pictures!!
As elegant and regal as she is, Alix always looks so sad.......
Nicholas just has a boyish, charming look - even as he got older...

I know, Alix has a very tragic look on her face. I think after her mother, Alice and sister May died Alix felt quite shy and sad. Especially, in the forth photo. It seems like she somehow knew that later her life would be in danger or something bad was going to happen. That's a feeling when someone in your family was going to die next. This reminds me of Princess Kaiulani of Hawaii when her mother, family and close friends died I notice she too also had a sad look in her photos; just like Alix. She was very shy, reserved and serious just like Alix was!

I am sure that tragedy will do that to you - losing one's mother (esp as a young person) alone would do that.
Or like you said, maybe she somehow new that her later life would be so full of sorrow.

Yes, it especially would make me feel truely upset. Once a love one dies, you began to have a feeling that your children, husband, and cousins. That's how Alix felt towards Alexei, especially since he had the hemophilia disease...it's very terrible that your son could bleed to death whenever he fell or when he had a bruise. There was no cure for the disease, and not much was known about it. Even if Alexei didn't have hemophilia Alix would have been just as worried about her son, and daughters. She was over protective and worried about their safety, just like any other mother does.

Nice colourings, Ekatrina. You did a great job. I especially like the first photo of Nicholas on a bike. The third one is also great, too! Are you using the program recoloured? I've tried this program, and I wasn't so happy about the way the quality came out. I remember colouring around areas, and pressing the 'recolour' button and the results would come out somewhat messy. I'm not use to the program, and can't operate it well.
I'm more used to Adobe Photoshop 7. It's easier for me.

This is one of my favorite photos of Alix>>>
