My advise would be to become an embodiment of modern Russia, with prosperity, economic development, sustainability, inclusivity.

Instead Georgy seems to hark back to olden days of Nicholas and Alexandra with all that worhsipping and all those close alliances with bearded priests whom are not very forward-thinking, to use an understatement.

I could be wrong but it looks like they strongly believe having good relationship with religious representative can make them become the legitimate heir of Russia and restore the monarchy.

If that is true, he is seeing blind, to use a Dutch verb. In this era of driving with hybrid cars, saving in bitcoins, communicating on social media, "tourist" travels to orbit, they cling to bearded zealots worshipping icons of medieaval "workers of miracles". In no any way this is going to help Russia and the monarchist cause.

If Georgy, who knows Madrid, Brussels, Berlin, advocates a Russia which is modern, well-developed, high-tech oriented, sustainable, forward thinking and aims to become country a par with Western Europe, common shared modern standards as equality and freedoms included, then he offers a certain future. The Russians can follow him. Or not.

But now he offers no future. He only offers nostalgia. But nostalgia does not bring bread on the table. His cousins in Romania focus on economic development, on sustainability, on promoting welfare and it did help them. (Not that the country will ever become a monarchy again, but that royal family keeps itself away from religious folks clinging for the Dark Ages.)

Well faith has people clinging onto it as they haven t got much else that s helps most in Russia.Yet the ROC is stronger then ever these days.Even tho they fly the globe, their mindset is not yet compatable with the west. There s always the russian bear sleeping..and the chronic depression and wodka overdose lurking around the corner caused by miserable standarts.Plus way overweight Georgi isn t looking too healthy,am afraid a Monarchal Russia will even be a shorter fata morgana then he envisions if he goes on like this.He s not seeing blind as you put it,he s under the spell of Mommy s fata morgana fed by Putin from time to time having her believing a restauration is imminent.Nah..just another pretender of the umptiest house without a country, nada mas really.Couleur locale a sad attempt to be on the same level as the real Romanovs of a century ago.Spasibo!

It is kind of a missed opportunity. Georgy has lived in Madrid and Brussels. He has travelled all around the world. His fiancée is Italian. Both are used to West-European standards and with everything gigantic Russia has to offer in vast natural resources, he could be a promising alternative, leading the way to a future alike the three former Soviet-occupied Baltic states, all three of them advanced welfare countries. Away from Putin's kleptomaniac nepotist oligarchy.

As long as Georgy is slaying crosses all the time and kissing icons and circling around bearded priests, he remains an irrelevance (and that is probably why Putin is completely okay with it).

No surprise: again bearded priests, slaying crosses, murmuring miracle formulas.
Poor Russia.

Well, not so long ago all Soviet citizens had to pray to the spirit of of the scientifically known future incorporated into to the teachings of Marx and Lenin.

What a pleasant change now: The thingy with God - and they don't have to pray, they are free in their decisions.

The fun part is rather, that the the church back then abandoned the Romanovs by not excommunicating their enemies, the communists and freemasons. And then the church had to learn, that in Russia the Kremlin decides who is prayed to - and it was for long decades not God...

How is it possible that an intelligent gentleman and an intelligent lady, who both grew up in Western Europe, have experienced how Spain, Italy, Germany, the Benelux flourish, how modern technologies, sustainable energy, democratic freedoms or even the existence of budget Airlines are fast changing these societies seem stuck in stuffy mediaeval cross-slaying habits with gentlemen whom by nature oppose anything I mentioned, craving for nostalgic times when the Church was all-powerful and the Russians no more than serfs.

:ermm:

Georgy should be advocating modern arts, sustainable technologies, participation and equality, a democratic Russia looking forward and maybe to become an inapiration indeed. What is the inapiration of an uncharismatic dude kissing icons of "Workers of Miracles" from the Dark Ages while slaying crosses. Pfffff.

Well, the royals are often very conservative - as conservative as the idea of monarchy itself - and seemingly very devout Christians here in Europeland.

Might be rooted in the idea, that God itself was responsible for let them rule from their thrones...

But you are right with your point about modern and cool and fancy things: They should incorporate them more into their activities, especially since they are not longer on the throne and need more than the love of old Grandmas to return....

Well I suppose one answer would be that the Church is one of the only (or at least most visible) organisations interested in working with them. The Romanovs aren't exactly a big deal in Russia any more. We've seen the same thing in Serbia, Montenegro and Romania to a greater or lesser extent, even in France.

He could advocate for Russia to be cutting edge and more western at everything and most people would still take no notice of him. Except maybe Putin.

Whilst many don't there are still plenty of people in Western Europe who enjoy or believe in the more ritualistic aspects of Catholicism for example. And not just Christianity either. And there are many who nostalgically think they would wish for "simpler" times.

I don't see this as being unique to Russia or this couple.

Since until relatively recently Russia went through a long period of enforced atheism, and "no religion" seems to be at 15-20% on two different sources with RO at 70ish%, I don't think anyone is before forced to believe these priests "from the dark ages" if they don't want to.
