Prinz Alexander annuliert Hochzeit

Prince Alexander canceled wedding - Cancellation by SMS
Prince Alexander von Schönburg-Hartenstein (26) and his fiancée Comtesse Anne-Victoire de Rougé (24) canceled their wedding near-term. As reported by BUNTE, the 500 wedding guests arriving from Europe, Canada, Dubai and the Philippines to attend the wedding in Paris, got an SMS: "Sorry, the wedding is canceled. More details later."

But the message didn't get through to everybody. A crowd of guests was waiting in front of the church at 15:30.

Countess Maya of Schoenburg, sister of Gloria of Thurn & Taxis, tells 'Welt Am Sontag' that sex is overrated and clarifies that her sister thinks that it should only be used for procreation.

BILD article, in German: Maya Gräfin von Schönburg: Sex wird doch völlig überbewertet - Royals - Bild.de

She also says that every woman looks for an alpha male to protect her.

It seems Maya's son Alexander Flick listened to his mother, he and his wife got a little baby girl called Mia, just before christmas. Alexander's father (and Maya's ex-husband) is billionaire Michael (Mick) Flick.

Thanks for posting the link :flowers:!
The bride is wearing her family's floral diamond Tiara.
The Tiara was last seen when the bride's mother, Princess Marie Luise von Preussen, wore it at the wedding of Prince Georg Friedrich von Preußen and Princess Sophie von Isenburg.

:previous:
The wedding took place on 20 September 2013 in Ronda, nr Malaga (although the captions of the photogallery erroneously say 15 September).

Thanks for posting the picture. The Duke of Edinburgh is the great-uncle to Countess Irina von Schönburg-Glauchau.

Cancellation by SMS, that's really rude!

Bunte has a short report about the wedding of Prince Ferdinand von Schönburg-Hartenstein and Countess Eleonora zu Brandis. The civil wedding took place at Stein castle which belongs to the groom's family. The church wedding took place at the castle Fahlburg where the bride grew up.

The bride designed the gown herself, the veil is a family heirloom and the tiara belongs to the groom's family. As the bride is a goldsmith she made the wedding rings herself.

He is a Count indeed. The House of Schönburg has two branches, the eldest one has the Fürstliche rank, the younger one has Reichsgräfliche rank. The Fürstliche branch of the House Schönburg had two lines: Schönburg-Waldenburg (extinct in 1960) and Schönburg-Hartenstein

Schönburg-Hartenstein

Current Chef:
Alexander Fürst von Schönburg-Hartenstein (* 1930)

Margarethe Prinzessin zu Windisch-Graetz
=
Johannes Karl

Current Heir:
Johannes Karl Erbprinz von Schönburg-Hartenstein (* 1951)

Alexandra Gräfin von Attems
=
1 - Aglaë Prinzessin von Schönburg-Hartenstein (* 1977)
2 - Johanna Prinzessin von Schönburg-Hartenstein (* 1979)
3 - Aloïs Prinz von Schönburg-Hartenstein (* 1982)
4 - Franziska Prinzessin von Schönburg-Hartenstein (* 1985)

The Gräfliche branch of the House Schönburg has one existing line:

Schönburg-Glauchau

Current Chef:
Alexander Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau (* 1969)

Irina Verena Prinzessin von Hessen
=
1 - Maria-Laetitia Gräfin von Schönburg-Glauchau (* 2001)
2 - Maximus Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau (* 2003)
3 - Valentin Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau (* 2005)

This Alexander is the brother to the famous Gloria von Thurn und Taxis. Alexander and Gloria are children of Joachim Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau and of Beatrix Gräfin Széchenyi von Sárvár und Felsővidék

There's some relation to Princess Michael of Kent too isn't there?

There are actually 2 Princely lines. the line of Schönburg-Waldenburg and Schönburg-Hartenstein.

I think you are right. I thought the House von Schönburg-Waldenburg became extinct in 1983 with the death of the 5th Fürst because I thought the Heir was an adoptive son:

Ulrich Georg Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1869–1939)

Pauline Prinzessin zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg (1881–1945)
=
Wolf

Wolf, 5th Fürst von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1902–1983)

Donna Luciana dei conti Bargagli-Stoffi (1921–1984)
=

no male issue

When the 5th Fürst died in 1983, his younger brother Georg already was dead. He had no male issue. Then there was a cousin alive (Ulrich) but his cousin's father Wilhelm was "ein Adoptivsohn" so I thought the line Schönburg-Waldenburg ended here. Now I learned that this adoption was done inside the family:

Ulrich Georg Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1869–1939)

Pauline Prinzessin zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg (1881–1945)
=

Wilhelm (became adopted by his aunt Anna Luise Fürstin von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt born Prinzessin von Schönburg-Waldenburg)

The current -6th- Fürst is his son:

Wilhelm Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1913–1944)

Marie Elisabeth Prinzessin zu Stolberg-Roßla (1921–1975)
=

1 - Ulrich
2 - Wolf Christoph

1 - Ulrich, 6th Fürst von Schönburg-Waldenburg (* 1940)

Brigitte Hirschle (* 1943)

= no male issue

2 - Wolf Christoph Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg (* 1943)

Eveline Mente (* 1944)

= Kai-Philipp Wolf (* 1969) - no furtherer male issue yet

I now understand nothing about Schönburg-Waldenburg line...

I thought that it was extinct, but have found that there is Ulrich, Fürst von Schönburg.

In genealogy sites he is only listed as Fürst von Schönburg, not as Fürst von Schönburg-Waldenburg which is more confusing.

In genealogy sites one can't find anything about the adoption, so was he adopted son of his father or adopted son of Princess Anna Luise von Schönburg-Waldenburg,later Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt?

If he is not adopted son of his father then the line of Schönburg-Waldenburg is still there.

Anyone with more info?

First it seems that the offical Titles of the Fürst was Fürst of Schönburg, Count and Lord of Schönburg, Count and Lord zu Glauchau and Waldenburg etc.
Then Fürstin Anna Louise of Schwarzburg adopted his father Prince Wilhelm as her heir.

In 1960 Prince Günther, the 4th Fürst died. He had no issue. His closest male relative was shown as below. In his family there was also his cousine Anna-Luise, Fürstin von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt née Prinzessin von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1871-1951). She was the general heiress of her husband's inheritance. As the couple had no issue, she decided to adopt her nephew Prince Wilhelm, a son of her brother Prince Ulrich-Georg. She knew that her nephew was a heir to the Fürst von Schönburg-Waldenburg, so she destined him as her general heir.

The current lineage is as follows:

Otto Victor, 1. Fürst von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1785-1859)
x
Henriette Gräfin Reuß zu Köstritz (1755–1829)
=
Georg

Georg Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1828–1900)
x
Luise Prinzessin zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg (1844–1922)
=
Ulrich Georg

Ulrich Georg Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1869–1939)
x
Pauline Prinzessin zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg (1881–1945)
=
Wilhelm

Wilhelm Prinz von Schönburg-Waldenburg* (1913–1944)
x
Marie Elisabeth Prinzessin zu Stolberg-Roßla (1921–1975)
=
Ulrich, the current 6. Fürst von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1940)

*
Adopted by his aunt Anna Luise Fürstin von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt née Prinzessin von Schönburg-Waldenburg to become the heir of her inheritance. The adoption had nothing to do with the Schönburg-Waldenburg line of succession but all with the Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt inheritance. In the end there was not much to inherit: in 1945 the DDR looted her properties by declaring it as Volkseigentum ("Property of the People"). Anna Luise Fürstin von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt née Prinzessin von Schönburg-Waldenburg had one small comfort: she was allowed by the DDR to remain in her castle in Sondershausen (picture) until her death.

Thank you so much both of you for this clarification. That explains things.

Unfortunately, Fürst Ulrich has only one son Prince Kai-Philipp Wolf(born in 1969) who is divorced since 2001, so I guess if something doesn't change soon extinction of Schönburg-Waldenburg line is looming. :-(

I have looked up: after Fürst Ulrich and his son Prince Kai-Philipp Wolf, there are male line descendants in French Polynesia but I am not sure if the House Schönburg-Waldenburg has the requirement of marriages to be standesgemäß (befitting one's social class). There are also a lot of children born out of wedlock.

So to see the only legally born males are:

Maria Karl Leopold Salvator Ernst Anton Joseph Franz Xaver Friedrich Bonifacius Benno Jaime von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1902–1992)
x
Varaiterai a Neti (1915)
=
Matahi-Georges-Leopold von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1951)

Matahi-Georges-Leopold von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1951)
x
Sévérine-Thea Hirshon (1947)
=
Manu-Ura Lewis von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1975)

They are also born out of wedlock, as their parents married only after their birth, so I don't think they are considered dynasts.

Their first child Maria was born in 1939, while her brother Matahi-Georges-Leopold von Schönburg-Waldenburg was born in 1951 and their parents married only in 1955. They divorced later in 1971.

I also assume that things would be similar if the children were born during their marriage.

Prince Friedrich Victor, father of Karl Leopold and grandfather of Matahi-Georges contracted second marriage with noblewoman Franziska Maison von Lobenstein. Although she was from Maison von Lobenstein noble family whose nobility was gained in 1817 it wasn't enough for Schönburg-Waldenburg family and the marriage was treated as morganatic. She had to be created Countess von Bug and children out of this marriage were also Freiherr/Freiin von Bug, although they only had one daughter Maria who married Rugard von Rohden.

Just found this article which may explain why this line is considered extinct.

http://royalmusingsblogspotcom.blogspot.rs/2012/03/countess-bug.html

Alicia de Bourbon left a note to her husband that their six month old son was not his child.

She may have written that simply because it was the truth or she may have lied to keep the child when she ran away from him.
