According to Dutch gossipsite Zijonline prince Edzard of Wied (1968) has been put on trial in Munich today for the possession and dealing in drugs. The prince and his girlfriend, a Petra U. had cocaine in their house when they were caught by the police. The couple said it was for their own use.

The prince is silent, Petra U. says she started with weed when she was 14 and only now, at 27, she tried the stuff that the prince offered.

The case was discovered when the couple went to the police to file a complaint against a Christian E., who tried to blackmail them. Christian received 45.000 euros this way, but after that he wanted 30.000 estra or he would reveal the prince's involvement with cocaine. Christian was caught by the police and sentensed to 2 years and 11 months in prison. After this the police did a search in the house of the prince as Christian claimed they could find 500 gram of cocaine there. The police 'only' found 21 gram.

Article in Dutch here; under the title 'Distant cousin of the Queen on trial for cocaine trade'.

Edzard is the son of the late Prince Ludwig Eugen of Wied and Helga Gemeinert. Ludwig Eugen was the 4th child of prince Dietrich, who in turn was the 2nd son of Fürst Friedrich of Wied and his wife Princess Pauline of Wurttemberg (daughter of king Wilhelm II of Wurttemberg). Friedrich was the 1st son of Fürst Wilhelm of Wied and Princess Marie of The Netherlands.

Well, you know what they say about playing with fire: you get burned.

Also.. that is one of the most hideous coats of arms I have ever seen. Yecch.

Search for pictures

I'm looking for pictures of Carol Victor Prinz zu Wied, hereditary prince of Albania (1913-1973) and his wife Eileen Johnston (1922-1985)? Does anyone have some?

Thanks for the reply.

Is there anone who knows why alexander von wied renounced his rights in 2000?

My understanding is that Prince Alexander suffers from autism.

William, The Prince of Wied (reigned 1864-1907) was a supporter of colonial policy.
Between 1891 and 1892, he was chairman of the German anti-slavery committees.

Very sad and the children so young. I wish the family my condolances

It is very sad indeed, at such a young age and with children who are so young.

The prime minister of Rheinland -Paltz offered her condolances to the family. She says that she will remember the Fuerst for his activities for nature preservation in the area. In a special way he was engaged in his home city of Neuwied and for nature preservation of the Rheinland Paltz. He was also a good and welcoming host when he received the counsil of ministers in schloss Neuwied in 2014.

Carl Fürst zu Wied verstorben

That is immensely sad. It will be very hard for the family.

It seems the the late Fürst has an older brother has has renounced his rights as first-born in 2000. Is it known why he chose to do so?

scroll up to post #6 ;).

It is very sad for the Family specially for the children to loose their father at such a young age. Looking at the Family tree it seems the men in the Family don't become very old. The late Fürst Friedrich Wilhelm died also very unexpected after a stroke when staying in Canada where the Family has posessions.

a report about the funeral

Bürgerkurier

Vielen Dank! What a great article with many pictures. Too bad that the princely hearse (kutsche) was not used. It is wonderful that so many clubs, unions and associations were present to say farewell to the Fürst zu Wied.

It is an ugly drawed Coat of Arms by Wikipedia. This one is better:

Does anyone know who attended the funeral. The Furst had close family relationships with many other Royals, including the Isenbergs, GF of Prussia, a branch of the Habsburgs, The Waldecks and Oldenburgs.

What sad news, may he RIP. It must be hard to lose a loved one at his age.

It appears that there was quite a large funeral for the late Fürst, and there was also a fairly big crowd, looking at the photos. From this, I get the impression that the Fürst and his family were/are well respected in Neuwied.

There is a list posted by someone at Nettys forum. Nice group of german royals including members of the house of Bavaria, Prussia, Wurttemberg, Shuamberg-Lippe and Saxe-Coburg
