His godparents were his uncle in law,Henri II of Navarre and his great aunt Renée de France.
 
29th of June 1149: Death of Raymond of Poitiers,Prince of Antioch


Raymond was the son of William IX, Duke of Aquitaine and the uncle of Eleanor of Aquitaine .
He was described by one chronicler as 'a lord of noble descent, of tall and elegant figure, the handsomest of the princes of the earth, a man of charming affability and conversation, open-handed and magnificent beyond measure'

He married Constance of Hauteville Princess of Antioch in 1136

Having accompanied Louis VII and Eleanor of Aquitaine on the Second Crusade he was killed at the Battle of Inab.
Following the battle his body was stripped and he was beheaded by the uncle of Saladin.

Charles the Dauphin was the only surviving son of King Louis XI and Charlotte de Savoie.
His godparents were Charles II, Duke of Bourbon and Jeanne de Valois, Duchess of Bourbon.
Charles became king at the age of 13,however in accordance with his fathers wishes his older sister Anne de France ruled as Regent until 1491.

The Queen Mother died in obscurity and poverty in her exile in Cologne,her remains were however brought back to France on the 8th of March 1643 and buried quietly at the Basilica of St Denis.
On October 13th,1793 during the terror a mob smashed her coffin with a hammer and tore the hair from her head before dumping her remains in a pit outside.

Catherine de Médicis went out on a limb to secure a Roman Catholic Hapsburg bride for Charles .

The death of Henri II thrust his widow Catherine de Médicis into power as Regent for her sons and the main power player in France for the next 30 years.
As the king lay dying queen Catherine refused to allow his mistress Diane de Poitiers and later exiled her from the French court.

The queen was reputed to be very sweet ,gentle and charitable and was more or less under the thumb of her mother in law,Louise de Savoie .
Even though Louise was not a queen she ruled the French court and acted as Regent and was refereed to as Madame la Régente.

The last Valois King of France was really unpopular at the time of his assassination having ordered the double murder of the hugely popular Duke and Cardinal of Guise in December 1588.
Henri's mother, Catherine de Médicis had died in January 1589 broken and in complete despair at the murders.
By his queen,Louise de Lorraine-Vaudémont he had no children and the throne passed to his brother in law,Henri III of Navarre.

Following his death,Louis-Philippe was firstly buried at St. Charles Borromeo Chapel in Weybridge, Surrey. It wasn't until 1876 that his remains along with those of his wife,Maria Amalia who died in 1866 were transported back to France for burial at the Chapelle royale de Dreux.
