25th of April 1566 : Death of Diane de Poitiers, Countess of Saint-Vallier , Duchess of Valentinois .


Diane was the mistress of Henri II of France and was banished from court by his widow, Queen Catherine following the kings death. Diane died Diane at her chateau d'Anet and was buried in her chapel. On June 18, 1795 her tomb was opened by a Revolutionary mob and the remains of Diane and two granddaughters were dumped in a pit .In 2008 the remains of Diane and her 2 two granddaughters were rediscovered and were later reburied at her original tomb.

Jean II le Bon as he became known was born at the chateau Gué-de-Maulny near Le Mans and his baptism took place on April 30th at the cathedral of Saint-Julien du Mans in Le Mans.
At the time of his birth his father was the nephew of the king Philippe IV le Bel.

April 29th,1417 : Death of Louis II of Anjou, Duke d'Anjou ,Count of Provence and Guise


Louis was the son of Louis I d'Anjou and Marie de Blois and was a grandson of King Jean II of France.
Louis II married Yolande of Aragon in 1400 and their daughter Marie d'Anjou married the future Charles VII of France.
The Duke was buried at the Cathedral of Saint-Maurice d'Angers which was ransacked and pillaged in 1793 during the French Revolution.

30 April 1341 : Death of Jean II ,Duke of Brittany


Also known as Jean le Bon he reigned as Duke from 1312 until his death.He married 3 times but died childless.
The Duke was buried at Notre-Dame des Carmes

Louise de Lorraine was the youngest child of Nicholas of Lorraine, Duke of Mercœur, Count de Vaudémont and Marguerite d'Egmont.
Her mother died less than a year later and her father remarried in 1555 to Jeanne de Savoie-Nemours.

2nd of May 1302 : Death of Blanche d'Artois, Queen Dowager of Navarre and Countess of Lancaster.


Blanche was French Princess by birth and a member of the French Royal Family and a granddaughter of Louis VIII and Blanche de Castile.
In 1269 she married Henri I of Navarre and following his death in 1274 acted as Regent of Navarre and the countdoms of Brie , Champagne , Troyes and Meaux for her daughter Jeanne Ier of Navarre until 1284.

In 1276 Queen Blanche married secondly, Edmund,Earl of Lancaster by whom she had 3 sons.
Following Edmunds in 1296 death Blanche returned to her native France and died at her residence L'hôtel de Navarre in Paris.
Blanche was buried at the now destroyed Abbey of the Minoresses of St. Clare without Aldgate in London which she founded in 1291 and was dissolved in 1539.

9th of May 1590 ; Death of Charles, Cardinal de Bourbon

Charles was the son of Charles IV, duke of Vendôme & Françoise d'Alençon and was entered into the church from an early age and quickly advanced as bishop to Archbishop and was elevated to Cardinal in 1548.
He was appointed Governor of Paris by Queen Catherine whom he was related to.
Following the assassination of Henri III in 1589 the ultra Catholic Holy League recognized him as the legitimate claimant to the throne which was backed up by Felipe II of Spain.
The Archbishop of Bourges died at Fontenay-le-Comte
and was buried at the chapel of the Bourbons at the Chartreuse d'Aubevoye.

The king died of smallpox and had been confined to his apartments at Versailles even the the Archbishop of Paris who arrived to administer the last rites was kept outside.

Louis XV had been king for just under 60 years.
