The Pope had refused to grant a dispensation for this wedding despite the intrigues of queen Catherine.

He was given the title Duc de Berry from birth and had an older brother Louis Joseph Xavier, Duke of Burgundy who was born in 1751.

August 24th,1572 : The St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre

One of the most horrific acts that took place during the French Wars of Religion occurred few days after the Wedding of Henri III of Navarre (later Henri IV OF France) and Marguerite de Valois.
Who actually ordered the massacre has caused much debate over the years but most fingers point directly at the queen Regent Catherine de Médicis.

Charles IX,Henri Duc d'Anjou,the Duc de Guise,Cardinal de Guise anf the Comte de Retz have also been mentioned.

25th of August 1271 : Death of Jeanne, Countess of Toulouse

Jeanne was the daughter of Raymond VII, Count of Toulouse and Sancha of Aragon and was born around 1220 and was named after her paternal grandmother ,Joan of England the sister of Richard the Lionheart.

In 1237 she was married to Alphonse, Count of Poitiers who was a son of Louis VIII of France and Blanche of Castile.
In 1249 she succeeded her father as Countess of Toulouse she accompanied her husband on the Seventh Crusade (1249) and later the Eighth Crusade in 1270.



Following her death Jeanne was buried at Notre Dame de Jarcy her tomb was sadly destroyed in 1793 during wanton acts of destruction during the French Revolution.

Louis Guy I, Count of Blois and Marguerite de Valois,his mother was a sister of Philippe IV of France.By his marriage to Jeanne de Hainault he was also Count de Soissons.

Following his death the king was buried at St. Charles Borromeo Chapel in Weybridge, Surrey and in 1876 his remains were returned to France and buried at the Chapelle Royale de Dreux which is the principal burial site of the Orléans family since 1816.

Arthur II was Duke of Brittany from 1305 until his death and was also Count of Penthièvre and Count of Montfort.

He was married twice
Marie, Viscountess of Limoges +1291
Yolande of Dreux (married 1292)

Following his death Arthur II, duc de Bretagne was buried at the now destroyed Church of the Cordeliers de Vannes .The church and all burials were ransacked/destroyed in 1793.

The King was not buried at St Denis but instead he chose the basilica of Notre-Dame de Cléry and the funeral took place on September 6th.
His wife Charlotte de Savoie was later buried beside him.

In April 1562 the church was sacked by Huguenots and his burial was desecrated and the statue of the queen was smashed and lost.

1st of September 1375 : Death of Philippe,Duc d'Orléans, Touraine,and Count of Valois

Philippe was the son Philippe IV of France and Jeanne of Burgundy. He married Blanche de France a daughter of Charles IV of France .

His remains were buried at the cathedral of Sainte-Croix d'Orléans his burial was lost following the looting of the cathedral by Huguenots in 1562 and again in 1567.

Sadly Marie Joséphine never lived to see the Bourbon restoration and never became queen of France.
I always wondered by her husband never remarried after her death?

François de Cleves was an ultra French Catholic Royalist commander during the French Wars of Religion. He married Marguerite de Bourbon-Vendôme who was the sister of Antoine de Bourbon and an aunt of the future Henri IV of France.

On this day, September 3, 1810 ~ Birth of Ferdinand Philippe, Duke of Orleans, Prince of Orleans, the eldest son of King Louis Philippe I of the French, at the Royal Palace in Palermo, Kingdom of Sicily
There were several requests to have portraits painted of him.
 
The future duke of Orléans was baptized Ferdinand Philippe Louis Charles Henri and was given the title HSH The Duke of Chartres.
He returned to France in 1814 following the fall of Napoleon.

4th of September 1308 : Death of Marguerite de Bourgogne ,Queen of Sicily and Naples.

Marguerite was the daughter of Odo, Count of Nevers, and Maud of Dampierre and was born in 1250.In 1268 she was married to Charles I d'Anjou king of Sicily,Naples and Count of Anjou, Maine and Count of Provence. The couple had 1 surviving child a daughter Marguerite who died in infancy.
Following the king's death in 1285 Marguerite returned to her owns lands as she was Countess of Tonnerre in her own right.
The Dowager queen died here and was buried at the chapel of the Hospice Notre-Dame des Fontenilles which she founded.
Her tomb was desecrated in 1793 but her burial was not discovered and a new tomb was erected in the 19th century.

Louise was born at Pont-d'Ain the daughter of the future Philip II ,duc de Savoie and his first wife, Marguerite de Bourbon.
Louise was the mother of French king François Ier and Marguerite d'Angoulême ,queen of Navarre.
Her great grandson was also Henri IV of France.
