The lovely Jean Fish.... enjoyed 20 years as King Louis 15th's
mistress..... her charm and joie de vivre a great attraction to
the King who had a low boredom threshold and found the formal duties of Kingship an onerous task.
Mme de Pompadour was a talented actress and singer as she proved in the many plays and entertainments she starred in at the Royal theatre inside the Palace of Versailles.
Her talents did nt end there... she was a talented artist too as some of her surviving works prove.

Madame de Pompadour was featured in lasts nights documentary on Louis XV & Versailles which aired on BBC2.

Following her death in 1764 ,Madame de Pompadour was buried beside her mother and daughter at the now lost Couvent des Capucines in Paris. The Convent and chapel were desecrated in 1793 and later pulled down.

What did Madame Pompadour do that was so important?

Jeanne Antoinette Poisson was educated at the Ursline Convent at Poissy which was the practice for the education of young girls from a well off background.During a holiday away from the convent she went with her mother Madeleine de La Motte to a clairvoyant who told the 9 year old
"You will be the king's mistress" ;)
