Louis VII remains which were buried at Notre-Dame de Barbeau somehow escaped the attention of the Sansculottes in 1793 unlike the tombs of the abbots and nobles .
The abbey was ransacked and set on fire but the kings tomb and remains survived and taken to Saint-Denis by order of King Louis XVIII in 1817.
