Imagine if both Jeanne d'Albret and Catherine de Médicis had lived long enough to see Henri IV become king of France .

How Jeanne would have relished at being the French kings mother but not sure how Catherine would have reacted at the demise of the Valois and now being merely the kings mother in law!

That was an allegorical painting ,Henri IV was dead and Marie was an unpopular Regent for her son Louis XIII.
Marie had a series of these symbolic paintings commissioned to assert her authority as queen regent.

The Battle was a victory for Henri IV against the forces of the Catholic League.
Philip, Count of Egmont was killed during the battle having fought on the side of the Catholic League.
The leader of the League,Charles de Lorraine,Duke of Mayenne escaped and still held the city of Paris.
Charles mother ,Anne d'Este was also ardent supporter of the Catholic League and despised Henri of Navarre and his late mother.
During the league Occupation of Paris Anne installed herself at the Hôtel de la Reine which was the former residence of the late queen Catherine who died in 1589.
