Thank goodness the gold reliquary was found having survived the wanton destruction and sacrileges of the French Revolution.

I had always thought the gold reliquary was empty since 1793 when it was seized from the Carmelite church and its contents were dumped?

We just have on French TV Stephane Bern 's Secrets d' Histoire about King Louis Philippe I and Queen Marie Amélie. The last Monarchs of France.
At the end we saw at the Chapel of Dreux Monseigneur le Duc de Vendome.
Vincent Meylan spoke about Queen Amelie famous jewels from Mellerio.
Among the quests , Prince Michel of Greece , one of the most clever man of the Royal Gotha.

Thank you for the pictures. As both died in exile ( Great Britain) they are in Dreux only I think in 1876.

Napoleon III Bonaparte was Emperor.
They explained that Louis Philippe d' Orleans did his oath before la Charte , he was not un Roi Divin and did not want to be called Roi de France but Louis Philippe Ier Roi des Français. His reign lasted only 18 years and was so surprised he had to abdicate. The King and the Queen went to England with a false name and were save.
The Duke of Vendome said what he liked was ' son esprit de famille" , he spoke about the famous painting of Louis Philippe and is 5 Sons, Orleans, Montpensier, Joinville , Nemours and the famous Aumale (Algerie)

I read that the queen did not want the title 'Queen of the French' on her tomb and instead wanted 'Duchess d' Orleans' .

Apparently she felt uncomfortable with her husband having usurped the throne of their cousins the legitimate kings of France.

The last King of France was Charles X. Louis Philippe, as "King of the French", was technically a usurper. And so was Louis Napoleon, whose regime (the Second French Empire) actually sprung from the Second Republic.

A discussion followed on boards and it was said as you King Louis Philippe is an usurper.

A lot was new to me for this Secrets d' Histoire where we may see places and personal royal ownings we may never see, as e a the Chateau D'Eu.

An Anecdote : before they were King and Queen they were HSH the Duke of Orleans ans HRH the Duchess of Orleans (daughter of the King of Naples.)
On a Royal Reception abroad they said Son Altesse Royale la Duchesse d' Orleans and the two doors were open . Follow by Son Altesse Sérénissime le Duc d' Orleans and half a door was open !

I know one of your pleasures Mbruno is trolling this thread and the French History, but despite your disgust of the Orléans and the Bonapartes, Napoléon III was the last Monarch of France. Period.
And your verbal convolutions about the "Lois fondamentales du royaume" will not change that fact.

The Chateau d'Eu has a fascinating history it was once owned by the powerful Duke de Guise, hosted Queen Victoria and was the exile home to Isabel, Princess Imperial of Brazil!

At the demise of King Robert I, in battle at Soissons in 923, his son Hugh refused the crown, and it went to his brother-in-law, Rudolph of France.
