Why did Prince Aloys Gonzaga Maria Adolf 1869-1955 renounced his succession rights in favor of his son 1923?
he was the father Prince Franz Josef II and he was married to Archduchess Elisabeth Amalia of Austria

I can't find any concrete answer to your question. However, Prince Aloys was 54 years old when he renounced his rights to the throne in favor of his son. Prince Franz Josef II started his reign 15 years later which would've put Aloys at close to 70 years of age. We may never know.

I think that something can be here, but my French is almost none- it's something to do about him as Emperor Franz Josef I nephew and succession changing:
Né le 16 août 1906, le prince François Joseph est le filleul de son grand-oncle l'empereur François Joseph Ier d'Autriche, dont il reçoit les prénoms.
Troisième dans l'ordre de succession au trône, son père renonce à ses droits en sa faveur le 26 février 1923.
François Joseph devient ensuite deuxième dans l'ordre de succession le 11 février 1929 à la mort du prince souverain Jean II de Liechtenstein. Il devient l'héritier présomptif du trône le 26 août 1929, à la mort de son oncle le prince François de Liechtenstein (1868-1929).
Il succède le 25 juillet 1938 à son cousin et grand-oncle le prince souverain François Ier de Liechtenstein, qui n'a pas eu d'enfant. Le prince François-Joseph II et sa femme seront les premiers souverains de Liechtenstein à vivre dans la principauté au château de Vaduz. Diplomate et avisé, François-Joseph II saura faire du Liechtenstein un havre de paix et de prospérité, notamment grâce à l'instauration de conditions fiscales avantageuses pour les entreprises.

Just what we already know. Mainly that Prince Aloys renounced in favor of his son and that Franz Josef II (with Princess Gina)as ruling prince was the first sovereign to live in the principality at Vaduz Castle.
Nothing as to why Prince Aloys renounced his rights.

Prince Josef Wenzel I (1696-1772), Prince of Liechtenstein
Prince Josef Wenzel I was the eldest son of Prince Philip Erasmus and Princess Christina Theresa, née Countess von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort.
He mainly devoted his life to a successful military career, reaching the high ranks of field marshal and generalissimo in Italy in 1745 and of General Chief Commander in Hungary eight years later; he also served as ambassador of the Holy Roman Emperor to the Kingdom of France and as Imperial envoy in Berlin.
According to his biographies, he reigned the principality three times: the first time between 1712 and 1718, as heir to Prince Johann Adam I, being succeeded by his uncle Anton Florian; the second time between 1732 and 1745, as regent for the minor Prince Johann Nepomuk Karl (grandson of Prince Anton Florian); and the third time from 1748 to 1772, as successor to Prince Johann Nepomuk Karl.
Does anyone know why he reigned the first time, and therefore how did his succession to Prince Johann Adam I happen?
I wonder that, because his uncle Prince Anton Florian was the older brother of his father, and therefore he should have succeded to Prince Johann Adam I in 1712, as his nearest male relative (as shown in this genealogical table, from the website of the Princely Family). Why was Prince Anton Florian skipped in 1712?

Has anyone heard of Marie Fox? Apparently, she was an foundling from France. Her mother left her and the identity of her father is an ongoing mystery. She was adopted by a British noble couple and eventually married Prince Louis of Liechtenstein. Judging by the Wikipedia photograph of her (bought by Queen Victoria and now owned by Queen Elizabeth II), she was rather pretty. Does anyone know more about her?

I can tell a bit more about her daughters. Three of the eldest (Sophie, Henriette and Julie) had no children but the youngest married Franz, Graf von Meran and had six children with him. Franz was the son of Franz Ludwig, Count von Meran who was the son of Archduke Johann Baptist of Austria, himself son of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor and Infanta Maria Louisa (daughter of King Charles III of Spain). Their children were:
- Marie Henriette, Countess von Meran
- Therese, Countess von Meran
- Alois, Count von Meran
- Heinrich, Count von Meran
- Albrecht, Count von Meran
- Josef, Count von Meran
Three of those children and their descendants married into several European royal, princely and noble houses including Reuss, Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg, von Loe, Auersperg, Hohenberg, and Baden.

Thank you, that is fascinating! I don't suppose any living monarch is descended from her, right?
I read somewhere that after a word got out that the Marquis de Montaign was her father, he wrote to the newspaper to publicly deny it. Reportedly, her mother died in childbirth and the Marquis resented the baby, so he left her in an orphanage. His denial of the rumour caused quite a stir back then.

As far as I know, there are no Monarch or Heads of a House among their descendants.
Incidentally, Marie and Prince Alois are also direct ancestors of the politician Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. His wife is Stephanie von Bismarck-Schonhausen, a great-great-granddaughter of Otto von Bismarck.

Prince Johann I Joseph (1760-1836)
From 1806 to 1813, during the reign of Prince Johann I Joseph, Liechtenstein was a member of the Confederation of the Rhine set up by Napoleon Bonaparte. Johann I Joseph's full name was Johann Baptist Josef Adam Johann Nepomuk Aloys Franz de Paula.
Johann I Joseph was Prince of Liechtenstein between 1805 and 1806 and from 1814 to 1836.
Prince Josef Wenzel inherited 632 paintings from Hans Adam I.

Prince Josef-Emanuel Leopold Marie is the son of Prince Nikolaus and Princess Margaretha.
Josef-Emanuel was born in Brussels-Uccle, Belgium on May 7, 1989.
He attended the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, England.

Yes they do. According to the House Laws of the Princely House, all the members of the Princely House bear the titles Prince(ss) of Liechtenstein and Count(ess) Rietberg, with the style of Serene Highness.
The only exceptions are the Reigning Prince (Fürst), whose full title is Reigning Prince of Liechtenstein, Duke of Troppau and Jägerndorf, Count Rietberg, Sovereign of the House of Liechtenstein, and the eldest son of the Reigning Prince, whose title is Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein, Count Rietberg.

In 1760, Joseph Wenzel escorted the future bride of Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II to Vienna.
Did Joseph Wenzel get this duty because he had previously been an Imperial Envoy to Berlin?
