I think the main reason for this arranged union is that the Sultan, so far, only has one daughter married off (Princess Rashidah). And the others are not getting any younger! Majeedah is the most attractive of the lot, so she would be easier to marry off than Princesses Muta Wakillah or Hafizah, for eg.
As for realising the ill effects of inter-marriage, HM should be well aware. A couple of Prince Mohammad's children (Prince Qawi's brothers and sisters) are mentally and physically not normal. You can see them in the Disney on Ice pictures. They are easy to spot from their strange appearance!
HM's sister's, Princess Norain's children (some) are very sickly, too. All because of marrying too close into the family. And Princess Norain's husband (who was Raja Isteri's brother!) recently died of health complications.

OMG, I need to share this .... yesterday, I bumped into her majesty Queen in Chanel boutique in KLCC!! I don't know she was inside ... she did'nt request the boutique to be closed... at first she on the other corner, and walking towards me, and we were like eyes to eyes and exchanging smile ..(what are suppose to do in that situation? I really don't know the protocol) and since she's moving towards me I moved back word, untill I reached dead end corner!!! and she's so close to me and still smilling..) by then I feel that it will so not appropriate for me if I didn't show some acknowledgement.... therefore I bend and reach her hand(she know what am I doing ..give her hand to me...) and KISS her HAND!!!! yes I kiss her hand, and U wanna the funniest thig is ..... one of her huge diamond ring knocked my upper nose/forehed ( and if u wanna know her jewelry yesterday, I've posted in royal jewel thread) ..... OH God it's really an experience!! being sooo nice she even ask me "dari mana ?....." meaning from where..... don't know the appropriate answer ... tell her that I'm just checking thing out ha..ha..stupid answer!
Me, without just cause, and in euphoric state, suddenly in shopping mode went for shopping spree, after hit ZARA and Evita Peroni boutique, I decided to have a new shoe, and hit Stuart Weitzman, not even 5 minutes there, I sense something amist .... OMG here again Her Majesty walk in ......again face to face .. she soooo nice ahe can remember me ... and said this "jumpa lagi kitak ..." ( we meet again) oh really what a lucky day ... then one of her escort came to me as though she want to whisper something ( at that time I really feel that she want's me out of that place) no..no.. she didn't said, but what she said was "....it seems that u both share the same taste ".... and now I'm cleverer with the answer, said "may be because we both libran ..."
and today I'll telling every one my great experience, I've met many royals and celebs but nothing compare to meeting raja Isteri .... long life ...Amin

Nice that you had a good experience BOLK. Sometimes they are friendly, sometimes not, depending on their mood and if they know you. Of all the times I have encountered Raja Isteri, she never makes eye contact! I think she is intimidated by certain types of people, and charmed by others, like yourself.
The Crown Prince is always friendly whenever I met him though. And Prince Qawi always smiles and waves when I saw him.

yes I saw the pictures of Prince Muhammad's kids. Its hard to believe they are Prince Qawi's brothers and sisters!
Honestly I find it all quite alarming. The sultan really should have more sense than this. He should keep his daughter's best interest in mind. I dont get why he cant have her marry a commoner, like the CP. Or perhaps a malaysian royal? dont they have any eligible bachelors?

Yes! you are one of the lucky ones BOLK to have met the Queen in a shopping spree. I bump into her a few years ago at a store in London and the shop was closed for her but the people in the store including myself could still shop around. She knew my friends and I quite well and we all talked shop, excellent! :)

Well Humera, I'm pretty sure they do realize it. The average people would definitely think it will not be a good move, for the sake of their offsprings, as Zina have mention some of Prince Qawi's siblings are not very well, as it goes with one of Princess Norain's daughter too.

Apparently Princess Majeedah and Princess Hafizah do have commoner boyfriends but are very unlikely to marry them. A few of the malaysian royals were introduced but weren't approved. Sorry I don't know why. Actually Princess Mutawakillah, 2nd oldest daughter of Sultan is supposed to get married 1st before Princess Majeedah but apparently refused to and is furthering studies aboard. A few years ago she was suppose to marry a distant cousin of hers but it did'nt work out, apparently he was to 'girlish', they even went on holiday together to get to know one another.

Humera, Thank you for all the photos you post throughout the board, I enjoy very much seeing the pictures.
This couple has most likely had a battery of genetic testing, the means of which are unlimited. Perhaps the results of such testing confirm that the odds are in their favor.
Genetic testing has advanced significantly over the years and would be easy to do in this family.
In relation to the subject of intermarriage, Prince Salman of Saudi Arabia says:
"There is always the element that says 'you don't want to touch it,' " said Prince Salman bin Sultan, chairman of the Prince Salman Center for Disability Research. But that, he said, is no longer possible or wise. The effects of intermarriage will be part of a comprehensive disability study that the center expects to complete in coming months, and international groups including the World Health Organization are trying to help develop policies to address the issue.”
