The Vatican confirms that Benedict XVI is sick, but that the situation is not "particularly worrying".

Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI is now the longest living pope in history and has surpassed the record held by Pope Leo XIII, who lived for 93 years. However Pope Leo XIII still holds the record of the longest reigning Pope (1878-1903).

A papal name or pontificial name is the regnal name taken by a pope.
During the first centuries of the church, the bishops of Rome continued to use their baptismal names after their elections.
The last pope to use his baptismal name was Marcellus II in 1555.

The Papal States were never in France,Avignon was an ecclesiastical enclave of the Papal States .During the Avignon Papacy several Popes set up court at the Palais des Papes in Avignon.
The enclave was part of the Papal States until 1791 its annexation by France following the French Revolution.
The Palais des Papes was the scene of a brutal massacre in October 1791 during the annexation.

The church of Saint Jerome of the Croats underwent a massive restoration. The church which was founded by Pope Sixtus V in 1589 is home to the Croatian community in Rome.
