It is a normal train carriage that recently has been refurbished. After the visit the train will be used for normal service. The trip took 3 hours, which is longer than a car trip. The train departed from the station Brussels-Luxembourg, close to the European parliament.
Apparently during other visits the king and queen used the Eurostar to visit London and the Thalys to visit Paris.

How nice that the Grand Duchess was there after all. They had the ladies all sitting on a sofa this time, probably so that Maria Theresa wouldn't have to stand for a long time.
I guess we have to wait for the close up pictures before we can clearly make out Mathilde's earrings. Tiara-wise it was business as usual.

Lovely to see MT attended, I guess when they are attending events in the Palace she feels well and mobile enough to attend. A discreet wheelchair may even be in use.

But it is not the Place where the live, which is outside from Luxemburg town.
Wonder how they do it for the reception line. Perhaps she is seating there like Queen Margrethe does it for the New Years Courts.

I understand they live at Castle Berg but is seems MT has some mobility and is not bed stricken so if she can use a wheelchair/crutches to get from room to room with plenty of sitting down in between and can be taken there in a car I guess she thought she should/would like to attend the dinner and welcome at least.

She has got the beligan order of the Crown which also her husband has. The sash is in a very dark red. The same Order was also given to the danish Crown Princely Couple. I thought that maybe the luxemburgian would get the Order oe Leopold due to the close realtionship between the Families.

I believe CP Frederik got the Order of Leopold and Mary got the Order of the Crown.
I am surprised Guillaume wasn't also awarded the Order of Leopold.

Yes I too had thought we might see the Order of Leopold ,I noticed no orders on the Grand Duchess maybe it was a last minute decision to attend the gala.

Really? But why make differences between 2 heirs and why give the one who is close related a lower Order?

'Refurbished'?
There was not even a nice vase with flowers or a cooler with fresh water for these so esteemed passengers of the NMBS / SCNB (the Belgian state railway company).

Guillaume is the not the head of state. The "lesser ones" always get the Order of the Crown. That was not different with other Heirs.

I supposed refurbished/updated for normal use by NMBS? Not as a royal carriage certainly. At least the NMBS-train had no delay, which in my experience is not too often guaranteed .

A pity that not more royals attended the visit of their cousin. I believe Prince Guillaume and Princess Sybilla also live in Luxembourg?

It really is a pity that more members of the Grand Ducal Family were not present. It would be nice if Grand Duke Henri's sisters and brother and some of the Grand Dukes' sons had been present.

I thought it would be more of a family affair seeing as the Grand Duke and King are cousins unless other members of the GDF were there but just not in the photos.
