Princess Yoko visited Toyama Prefecture October 18-19 to attend the 19th Hokuriku Welfare Golf Tournament, a Prince Tomohito Memorial Cup. 120 people participated even though it rained.

Members of the Imperial family attended ceremonies on the 1st anniversary of Prince Mikasa's death on October 27th. Princesses Yuriko, Mako, Akiko, Yoko, and others worshipped at Prince Mikasa's grave in the afternoon at Toshiba Oka Cemetery. CP Naruhito and CP Masako attended a ceremony at the Mikasa residence in the morning.
IHA reported the Prince's grave cost 85 million Yen.

On October 29th, Prince Mikasa's spirit was enshrined at the Imperial Palace. Princesses Yuriko, Akiko, and family attended the ceremony.

On December 14th, Princess Nobuko gave a special lecture on health and volunteer activities in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. She spoke about her experiences suffering from menopause, women's health issues, children's dietary needs, social contribution activities, and the importance of communication.
Singer and director of NPO Japan International Children's Society, Teruko Ohba, helped setup the lecture. Ms. Ohba participated in the same youth international exchange program as the late Prince Tomohito and is also Princess Nobuko's friend. 140 people attended the lecture; proceeds will be donated to a service organization connected with Princess Nobuko.

On November 4th, Princess Akiko attended the 100th anniversary celebration of Kokushikan University at the Hotel New Otani in Chiyoda, Tokyo. More than 1,000 people attended the ceremony including faculty, student representatives, graduates, affiliated schools, and stakeholders.

On December 11th, Princess Akiko conducted a participatory lecture with 20 students at Kanazawa University on the theme of “Expanding values” before an audience of 180 students. Princess Akiko met with President Koetsu Yamazaki about the necessity of globalization of Japanese youth before the lecture.

On January 12th, IHA announced Princess Akiko is president of Mikasa Memorial Foundation since March 7 of last year. The foundation supports Middle Eastern culture research.

Makiko Sen, daughter of ex-Mikasa princess Masako and Soshitsu Sen, married in 2017.
The engagement ceremony of Makiko Sen and Munehiro Sakata was celebrated on February 19, 2017. Mr. Sakata is 35 years old, born in Kyoto, and works as an orthopedic surgeon and clinical researcher at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, University Hospital. Former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda served as nakōdo (仲人 matchmaker) for the two families.

It is great to see Princess Akiko having a busy agenda and undertaking various engagements. Her pink ensembles (the 32nd Rhymes Competition and the Hiroshima Confectionary Exp) were perfectly feminine.
