A congratulations to them and I wish for them to be happy.

It will be tough , as it was mentioned now they represent Sweden and the SRF, im sure the photos of her modeling will always resurfaced.

Im a little bit confused by the disorganization. If he proposed today why the rush to announce it today (Chris's birthday, etc)

Carl Philip is not the heir and his bride deserves a chance.

Why did they pick today to announce, since M&C were supposed to be back in the US? Why not last week when the whole family was there???

It is just a small family dinner- the King, Queen, Sofia and Carl Philip, and Sofia's Parents.

Yeah, CP and Sofia stated that they got engaged this morning. Not sure why they rushed it. Maybe they were just really excited.

Most likely they wanted to announce it formally now the day it happened because it is the last day of the work week and they did not want to risk having it leaked over the weekend. I imagine that they were just announcing it during the business week.

For goodness sake you see more in a beach than in Sofia's past pics....a fuss over nothing! If a single mother can become a Crown Princess and do it so brilliantly, I am sure Sofia can become a fantastic Princess to represent Sweden.

Congratulations to the couple. I hope they'll be very happy.

I admire her for taking him on. She must be aware of the vituperative comments that have been made about her and how her past indiscretions have been dredged up and used as weapons against her, as evidence that she is not good enough to marry the man she loves and who, we must assume, loves her, and that this will keep happening for the foreseeable future.

I think it's fair to say that many of us have done things in our younger days that we wouldn't do now, but we don't have to be constantly reminded of them. We don't have photos or video footage of us doing less than stellar things thrust at us on a regular basis in an effort to keep us down.

Carl Philip and the king and parliament seem to think she's OK for the job, and I think she should be given a fair go by everyone else. She should be given the chance to prove herself. Everyone deserves that much. I hope she succeeds, and I hope they will be very happy.

Perhaps Victoria, Daniel and Estelle are in Öland. Or maybe they were with Madeleine and Chris celebrating his birthday. Margareta Thorgren told that Chris was having a private party at a secret place. So far the press hasn't been able to tell if Madeleine and Chris are still in Sweden.

According to Expressen, Carl Philip and Sofia will move to Villa Solbacken, which Carl Philip inherited from prince Bertil. It has been empty since princess Lilian died. The renovation is planned and Carl Philip and Sofia should be able to move in next year.

Firstly, this forum is surely not intended to only praise individuals (more specifically, their fashion sense or lack thereof). Secondly, Swedes absolutely have the right to judge Hellqvist and her past and Carl Philip's choice; whether they judge them right or wrong is their business. Carl Philip's job is to represent Sweden and Swedes, as will be the job of his wife. Choosing a wrong person for the job is certainly something the Swedes have the right to be upset about. I am not saying that they are upset, but some posters here claim this relationship/engagement/marriage is none of their business. It is.

Your right, because it is the business of the Swedish people, if she is going to be representing the Swedish People and being paid by the Swedish Taxpayer through the king and then her husband it is the business of the Swedish People.

Exactly so. I am more than a little surprised by all this, too, since it was only a short while ago that the couple were looking at marriage venues. Haven't we all 'known' that they were engaged but waiting for the right time? Very strange the way it all played out - and to begin one's public life with the SRF with a fabrication.

I do agree with LadyFinn that there is a rumble in the family. Emma Pernauld remains a good and dear friend of Madeleine, and by all accounts, now Chris. It will be an interesting year. *please pass the popcorn*

I wouldn't take the King's slip regarding Brazil too seriously btw - I think it was just a slip - he is likely watching the World Cup. :roll eyes: Just my opinion.

P.S. She is a beautiful woman. They will make lovely babies.

One last observation, she looks like Queen Silvia did when she was young. The resemblance is there.

There was a crowd - or a gaggle of people at the gate. As the journalists were escorted through the palace coming out on the other side, you could see the people at the fence/gate. When the couple finally left the greensward and went up the stairs - there was the sound of cheering. When that happened a flurry of photographers ran across the grass and it was likely then that they snapped the picture of the couple behind the balustrade at the top of the stairs - when they were raising their arms and looking at the people at the gate. (You can see all this in the videos posted on this thread earlier on).

Who were the gaggle of people - friends? Whoever they were they had to have known what was going on - in order to be there waiting, and to know what was going on enough to cheer on cue. Curious. It really is a most curious situation.

I didn't think the couple made a traditional "balcony appearance". The videos show that it was the balustrade at the top of the stairs that made it look as if they were waving from on high to an assembled crowd. So I don't think it is fair to imply that the couple were somehow grandstanding. They were just going back inside the palace when they politely acknowledged the curious onlookers at the gate.

Well, in 2003 Crown Prince Frederick and Miss Mary Donaldson appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace after the Queen consented to their marriage at the Council of State (just as the Queen and Prince Henrik did in 1966 for their engagement). But, as has been pointed out, let's not get bogged down in comparisons to other royal couples.

From the pictures posted of the so called "Engagement Party" it appears more a simple dinner for the couple and both sets of parents. Perhaps that's why Prince Carl Philip's sisters were not there.

In the end it´s completely irrelevant if and who´s upset and who´s not.
It is also irrelevant if private choice or not! The prince made his choice and that´s that.
We, who´re not very fond of this decision, to put it mildly, in the end of the day have to accept it.
No matter how much we argue and discuss, the couple will hardly change their attitude because of some royal watchers...
