On a spectacular official visit to the far-flung Asian country of Mongolia, Holland's Princess Maxima was delighted with the friendly welcome she received. Touring with husband Willem-Alexander, the charismatic royal met her match when it came to donning colourful outfits - wherever the couple went they were greeted by locals in a dazzling array of costumes.
Here the princess tried her hand at a spot of archery, which along with wrestling and horseracing, is known as one of "the three manly sports". The fiercely contested championships involve competitors as young as five riding bareback for miles over the dusty course.
Another highlight of the memorable trip was the royals' tour of Gandan Monastery - one of the few religious buildings to have survived the communist era - escorted by monks in red and saffron-coloured robes.
Three times the size of France and with more horses than people, Mongolia is an unspoiled land, whose history is dominated by images of Genghis Khan galloping across the steppes.
Life in the country, which was closed to foreigners until the fall of the Soviet Union, is lived much as it was hundreds of years ago. Travellers in search of a unique experience can take a safari by horseback in the Gobi Desert, or visit a ger, the tent that is home to the Mongolian nomad, where hospitable hosts are likely to ply their guests with a drink of a fermented mare's milk.

Royals speaking
Hello dear board members,
I have seen all the wonderful pics of Maxima and Willem's visit to Mongolia. I also noticed Maxima giving a speech in one pic. I am sure many would love to hear the words. They travel so much and make so many speeches, we would love to hear Maxima speaking English? Is it possible to get an audio clip? It would be wonderful to hear her too. She is such a vibrant and lovely person.Thanks.

here isa speech of maxima:
HRH Princess Máxima of the Netherlands addresses her mother-in-law (Queen Beatrix), who is the president of the Council of State.
"President, [the Princess smiles to the Queen]
I thank you for your warm words and I am very honoured that you wanted to introduce me into the Council of State by yourself.
It is a privilege to be allowed a seat in this High College of State from which you are the president. In this way, a tradition is continued, that is of interest for a good fulfillment of my duties as spouse to the future King and as mother Princess Catharina-Amalia. I'm pleased to meet you in the coming time and to learn more about the workings of the Council and with its members. I have already been amidst of you once and I would like to use this occasion to express my gratitude for the help that many state-councillors have provided me during my period of introduction. Your understandings and knowledge have made a great impression on me. I am eager to remain involved in your activities and in that way I hope to learn more about your workings as High College of State."

Dutch Crownprince Willem Alexander (L) and Princess Maxima (2nd L) ride horses with the President of Mongolia N. Enkhayar (2nd R) and the first lady Onogiin Tsolmon (R) in the Inktenger Valley.
The Prince and Princess visited Mongolia due to the 800 year relationship between The Netherlands and Mongolia.

That last photo of the couple on horseback could be used as an ad for Ralph Lauren.

ok, well, this is totally of thread here, but to answer your question, look in any thread featuring pictures of Fred&Mary right after their engagement/marriage, and you can see for yourself what I mean: in some pictures taken while they're on an official engagement, there's Fred clinging to Mary as if there's no tomorrow, or hugging her and kissing her repeatedly, seemingly oblivious to the fact they're there to do anything but.., but anyway--back to WA and Maxima.

true. i agree. he he :)
a pic from People en Español magazine today about their visit to Mongolia:
http://www.peopleenespanol.com/pespa...4530_5,00.html
AND WHAT IS THAT?
Princess Maxima of Holland watches with suspicion the platillo offered to her upon their arrival in Mongolia. With or without a doubt, the noble Argentinian princess closed her eyes and took the risk.

Princess Maxima is definitely a well-spirited person. Any activity or State visit does not intimidate the future Queen of the Netherlands; quite the opposite. The Princess of Orange is always disposed to approach with all spontaneity and a truthful smile the most colourful tests.
Thus it happened during the official trip to Mongolia, during which we were been able to see Princess Maxima showing her abilities with arch, horse riding, climbing the mountains of this exotic country, which is a real window ino the past.
Hola.com offers some of the most spectacular, unusual and amusing photos of Princess Maxima and her husband, Prince Willem-Alexander, during their trip to Mongolia.
