I didn't read about that in the American newspapers -- I think that is funny if true! People get annoyed for some silly reasons.

It wasn't in any newspapers, sorry for the mix-up. It was stated in two gossip magazines. They were placing pictures of a cheering Maxima and WA with a grumpy GW Bush in the background. They even drew nonsensical arrows to show that Bush really looked in the direction of WA and Máxima. It is a funny story and I am sure it sold many magazines (including to me ) but IMO it was wishful thinking of Privé and such. The president might have been quiet because no American was swimming at the time of WA and Máxima's supportive cheers, jumps, waves and whatnot.
The entire Bush clan was 2 rows behind WA and Máxima btw, Bush sr. was there to and one of his granddaughters too I think, Laura Bush sat next to her husband of course.
I think the occassion was the 100 meter swimming for ladies on August 10th. Máxima thought it would be succesful to wear the color that curses most with orange: bright pink (as on Queensday) .
----
Anyway, they are done cheering now. The PoO will be in Stockholm tomorrow and Máxima is back in Wassenaar. The PoO will attend the closing ceremony but that will be it. No other Dutch royal will attend the next days either.

I am a bit sad to hear that they have left Beijing. I really enjoyed seeing all of the photos and reading the updates on their activities.

I seriously doubt that President Bush was annoyed by Maxima's enthusiasm. He is a happy-go lucky type of person. He would be the last one to get annoyed by someone being happy. I think he was just looking at Maxima and WA, and the camera just caught that moment. He seems like a down to earth type of person.

I think exactly like you. Mr. Bush would never feel annoyed by this situation. A stadium is a place of noise and excitement, where fans get enthusiastic with their athetles...
Americans are informal and relaxed people who like to have fun, and the Bush family is not an exception, IMO.

I have to agree and it is possible that he may have had other things on his mind ie: Georgia.

Hello everyone - Lets please leave the political discussion elsewhere before it gets to be too entrenched in this thread.
Thanks!

Wonderful pics! Princess maxima and Princess Willem-Alexander are a great couple, and I think Dutch delegation in Beijing must be proud of them, the same way than the Crownprincess are porud of Netherland's athletes.

im going to disagree with you here (although i do like Maxima especially her vivaciousness and charm very typical of South Americans)
I dont like the way she has come across at these olympics
Here are a few examples of her looking bored and yawning

http://www.fotoleovogelzang.nl/previ...&search=maxima
http://www.fotoleovogelzang.nl/previ...&search=maxima it would have been nice here if she could have at least put her hand fully over her mouth!
Then in one of the below monatge of pictures she is brushing her hair - seems to be abit (dare i say it) vain. And then in the last picture she has a real look of disgust - i know it can be disappointing when the person you are supporting fails to win but as someone in the public eye she should have tried to hide her disappointment
http://royals.web-log.nl/royals/2008...maxima--1.html
There are also pictures of her and Willem-Alexander over-celebrating which i believe from reading through this thread that they have been accused of that before
http://royals.web-log.nl/royals/2008...maxima-bi.html
As Kipling says "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two imposters just the same" - its not just about the winning but also the taking part

I think joy and manners should walk together. It's good to laugh, dance and celebrate, but when people exaggerate, it becomes a bit fake.
I don't like royals who are serious and bored all the time (like Rosario Nadal) but I also distrust of those who laugh histerically or make funny faces all the time. Balance is the key.
If the Dutch athletes felt good with their jolly royal couple, then Great! But I still prefer the soft and truly happy way that other princesses like Letizia and Mary supported their athletes.

It is not so much the athletes being proud of them,(they really love ´m to bits),they are absolutely very proud of the athletes, and will be present this wednesday as all Olympic Medalists will be received by HM at Huis ten Bosch Palace.
Yeah, they're not as stuffy, fake or whatever other silly people say they are.Our chica latina is our chica latina and reacts like one.Having a camera in your face the minute you get up till the sec you go to bed 24/7 at the Games, well, who wouldn't be tired.sleepy or bored at one point? We,at home, can zap, they have to sit through an event even tho it turns boring and sour, and if so,they show, natural.
I'm not going into this whatever longer, first,it's not worth it,second,I hate like fake/bull,third,discussing other Princesses here would be comparing apples and pears anyway no matter what one tries to pull but whatever it is,pull it somewhere else. So,we stick to Alex and Máxima and our very own brand of loved and succesfull athletes. We didn't do bad, with a few hundred countries participating we stand at tenth place in the Medal list, having France,Spain and fe Canada in our trail..... ...not that France has less Medals, they have more, but we have more GOLD ones...

yesterday the prince was in a dutch tv programm. They showed a short video of maxima when she was in the Holland Heineken House. (Ruben Houkes won bronze) After they showed this video, W-A said: that's why i'm so in love with her.

They do make an excellent couple, and they are very in-tune with each other, as seen by their body language.

IMO Maxima spent a lot of houres at the stands following the games. More than any other CP. It was only natural to have some photos where she did not look attentive and excited.
